Top Five NFL Offenses Heading Into Week 9 | A Healthy Joe Burrow Has Ja’Marr Chase and Bengals’ Aerial Show Back On Attack

NFL offenses have been down a bit compared to past seasons, but these offensive units were the best of Week 8.

Cincinnati Bengals

After beginning the season 1-3, the Bengals have won three straight games to get to 4-3. Led by QB Joe Burrow, who began the season with a calf injury, Cincy’s offense is beginning to look like the version we’ve witnessed the past two seasons. During the three-game winning streak Burrow has been fantastic, passing for 785 yards, eight touchdowns and just two interceptions.

Burrow’s 110.0 passer rating has been amongst the tops in the league as he’s gotten the connection between, he and star wideout Ja’Marr Chase going. Chase has lit up opposing secondaries to the tune of 31 receptions for 372 yards and four touchdowns over the past three games.

Following Sunday’s surprising 31-17 win over the Niners, Burrow talked about his team’s momentum.

“This is the standard,” Burrow said on Sunday. “And like I said, it wasn’t perfect. There’s still things we want to get better at and we’re going to. We just got to keep stacking days together. Today was a great day. And then Wednesday has got to be a great practice, Thursday, and so on.”

New Orleans Saints

After struggling to score points all season, the New Orleans Saints offense broke out with 511 total yards in their 38-27 road win over the Indianapolis Colts. Quarterback Derek Carr had his best game in a Saints uniform, passing for 310 yards and two touchdowns. Wide receiver Rashid Shaheed continued to make plays in the passing game with three receptions for 153 yards and one touchdown.

Swiss Army knife Taysom Hill rushed for 63 yards and two touchdowns on just nine carries.

Washington Commanders

In a 38-31 losing effort to the Eagles, the Commanders put up nearly 500 yards of offense (472), with second-year QB Sam Howell passing for 397 yards and four touchdowns. Second-year wideout Jahan Dotson had a career day as well with eight receptions for 108 yards and one touchdown.

Veteran wideout and kick returner Jameson Crowder (seven receptions for 95 yards and one touchdown) had his best game in his first season back in Washington since he left via free agency in 2019.

This week the Commanders traded both starting defensive ends, Chase Young and Montez Sweat, signaling a rebuild around Howell.

Tennessee Titans

Offense has been a struggle in Tennessee for quite some time now. With no deep threat since trading A.J. Brown to the Eagles during the 2022 NFL draft, it’s hurt the team’s running game and star Derrick Henry.

This past offseason they signed former All-Pro DeAndre Hopkins, and Sunday D-Hop and rookie quarterback Will Levis connected for three touchdowns in the team’s 28-23 win over the Atlanta Falcons.

Levis in his first start went 19 of 29 for 238 yards and four touchdowns. Hopkins had 128 of those yards on four catches and the three scores.

Detroit Lions

Wanna talk about offensive balance, look no further than the Lions’ 486-yard night in their win over the Las Vegas Raiders. The team rushed for 222 yards and passed for 264 yards. Dynamic rookie running back Jahmyr Gibbs did his thing with a career-best 152 yards on 26 carries and one touchdown.

Wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown continued to impress with another 100-yard day on six receptions. This Lions offense is one of the league’s best and most balanced.

Damian Lillard’s Rocky Divorce And Custody Battle Could Force Him To Miss Milwaukee Bucks Games Just As He’s Getting Started With Team

Damian Lillard is brand new to the Milwaukee Bucks team, and considering the timing of his filing for a divorce from his wife his start with the team is adding up to missed games.

Amid Trade To Milwaukee Bucks, Damian Lillard Files For Divorce From College Sweetheart Kay’La Lillard

According to reports, Lillard filed a motion to postpone his custody battle with his estranged wife, Kay’la Lillard, citing his busy NBA schedule.

More specifically, he has a home game against the Washington Wizards and cannot miss it.

The custody hearing involving their three children was originally scheduled to begin on Nov. 24, but Lillard wanted to postpone it because he plays Washington later that night. The custody battle would take place in an Oregon courtroom, but Lillard, whose new home is Milwaukee will be playing in Wisconsin at the Fiserv Forum.

Damian Lillard’s Wife Wants Sole Custody Of Three Children | Kay’La Lillard Claims She’s Done Helping Him Maintain False ‘Image Of a Family Man’

Will Lillard Have To Miss Game, or Can He Postpone Hearing?

Lillard has to make a tough decision. It will be entirely too much for him to try to make the custody hearing and then fly back in time to play his game later that day. He would probably have to miss that game, which really isn’t a big deal in the load management scheme of things.

According to RadarOnline, the motion filed on Oct. 27 reads “Petitioner is unable to appear at the hearing on November 24, 2023, due to a work-related conflict that he is unable to reschedule. Petitioner is a professional basketball player with the NBA, and he is contractually required to be in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on November 24, 2023, for an NBA Regular Season game and the preparations related thereto.”

Lillard Has Championship Dreams With Milwaukee

Lillard will never willingly run away from the season grind, and that is something he made sure we knew about him throughout his career with the Portland Trailblazers. Now that he is finally a member of a super team in Milwaukee with Giannis, Middleton, and company, it seems that he will be able to cash his loyalty points in for a reward with a chance to compete for multiple championships.

“This Started With James Harden And Ben Simmons” | Austin Rivers Calls Out Damian Lillard And Others For Trying To Force Trades To Specific Teams

But right now, his domestic issues are making the headlines with a pending divorce and custody battle on his hands. This may not exactly be the way he wanted to launch his Bucks career.

After four regular season games and entering the inaugural NBA In-Season Tournament, the Milwaukee Bucks are 2-2 and Lillard is averaging 21.3 ppg and 4.8 assists per game. He and Greak Freek are still working out the chemistry and Lillard is still searching for his stroke from three-point land (29%) early in the season.

A Man Who Left An Indelible Mark On The Game Of Basketball While Exhibiting The Best and Worst Of Human Nature | Bob Knight Dies At 83

Legendary Hall of Fame basketball coach Robert Montgomery Knight has died at the age of 83.

Nicknamed “the General,” he led the Indiana Hoosiers to three national championships and left a mark on the game of basketball that is unmistakable. So too was his abhorrent conduct and penchant for violence, often directed at his players.

His family announced his death Wednesday night as he had been in the hospital dealing with an illness and his overall health declining for the past several years.

“It is with heavy hearts that we share that Coach Bob Knight passed away at his home in Bloomington surrounded by his family,” the statement said. “We are grateful for all the thoughts and prayers, and appreciate the continued respect for our privacy as Coach requested a private family gathering, which is being honored.”

Knight Was A Coaching Savant

Knight began his coaching career at Army at the age of 24, becoming the youngest head coach in Division I in 1965. During his six-year tenure he amassed a record of 102-50 and led the Black Knights to four NIT Tournament berths.

While at Army he coached a point guard named Mike Krzyzewski, who would go on to become head coach at Duke University and amass the most wins in Division I men’s basketball history with 1,202.

Krzyzewski and Knight’s relationship deteriorated over the years and was damaged during the 1992 Final Four when Duke beat Indiana and Knight congratulated the Blue Devils on their win but walked right by his protegé without offering a word.

Knight was petty like that and stubborn.

“We lost one of the greatest coaches in the history of basketball today,” Krzyzewski said in a statement. “Clearly, he was one of a kind. Coach Knight recruited me, mentored me, and had a profound impact on my career and in my life. This is a tremendous loss for our sport and our family is deeply saddened by his passing.”

Still, Knight’s tenure at Indiana was legendary. He compiled a 662-239 record from 1971-2000. In his 29 seasons the Hoosiers won 20 or more games 22 times. The team made the NCAA Tournament 24 times, winning the title in ’76 (undefeated, which has never been matched), ’81 and ’87. The Hoosiers advanced to five Final Fours and won 11 Big Ten regular season championships.

NCAA Tourney Flashback: Isiah Leads Indiana to Fourth NCAA Title

Knight Was Also A Terrible Man

But it was during his time at Indiana that Knight’s infamous temper blew up into huge scandals and when he put his foot in his mouth on more than one occasion.

He threw a chair across the floor in the middle of a game in 1985 against Purdue, upset at a referee’s call. He had numerous physical confrontations with opposing coaches and officials. Knight would go on profanity-laced tirades at the media in his press conferences.

In a 1988 interview with NBC’s Connie Chung Knight said, “I think that if rape is inevitable, relax and enjoy it.”

He later said the comments were taken out of context. Not sure what context that statement would ever be acceptable.

Knight once brought a horse whip to practice and cracked it in the direction of Black player Calbert Cheaney in 1992.

In 1997 Knight choked player Neil Reed at practice and got physical with another player. There was an incident with his own son, Pat Knight and another with Sherron Wilkerson.

On September 8, 2000, Indiana freshman Kent Harvey, told campus police Knight grabbed him roughly by the arm and berated him for speaking to Knight disrespectfully. Knight was fired from Indiana two days later.

Those were the most infamous incidents, but there were several others.

Knight then coached at Texas Tech from 2001-08, compiling a 138-82 record. The Red Raiders qualified for the NCAA Tournament four times in seven seasons, and qualified for the NIT once. He retired from coaching on Feb. 4, 2008.

Knight was an innovator in terms of on court coaching. He pioneered much of the actions we see in the sport today as it relates to the motion offense. Passing and screening constantly until someone is open for an easy basket. On defense, Knight preached aggressive, tenacious man-to-man principles where every shot and pass was contested, and rotating to help teammates was mandatory.

Again, his mark on the game is second to none. But the man left much to be desired. Though he was not without his staunch supporters.

Knight’s most famous and best player was Isiah Thomas, who starred for him at Indiana and won a national title in ’81. Zeke often credits Knight with helping mold him into the player he became in the NBA.

The Diary of Isiah Thomas, Part I

The hoops legend reposted a video of Knight from his days at Indiana on the social media platform X, with the caption “lots of teammate tears flowing tonight for our coach.”

Basketball legend Earvin “Magic” Johnson also posted a message about Knight on X.

“Rest in peace to Hall of Fame basketball coach Bobby Knight! I remember when he came to recruit me at Everett High School right after they went 32-0 and won the National Championship in 1976. All 1200 students skipped class that day because they wanted to catch a glimpse of the legendary Coach Knight. A true champion! Cookie and I are praying for the entire Knight family and all of his loved ones.”

Human beings are complex and we are not the sum total of our good deeds, nor are we the sum total of our bad ones. We are a combination of both.

Bob Knight was a revered, legendary coach and a man who could be cruel, hateful and vindictive. He was both, and we have to acknowledge that.

Gone But Not Forgotten: Who Were The Four Pepperdine Sorority Sisters Killed By Former Baseball Prospect?

The fallout from the car crash that killed four Pepperdine seniors is still fresh, and their parents are still reeling from their loss.

Twenty-two-year-old driver Fraser Bohm was arrested on four counts of murder for the deaths of sorority sisters Niamh Rolston, 20, Peyton Stewart, Asha Weir, and Deslyn Williams, all 21. Bohm allegedly lost control of his BMW on Oct. 17.

A day after his birthday, Bohm was allegedly speeding on a section of the iconic Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, California, called “Dead Man’s Curve.”

As he swerved onto the shoulder, he hit three parked vehicles and then collided with the four young students who were walking nearby, police say.

Niamh Rolston, 20

Business major Niamh Rolston, 20, was a Los Angeles native who was a talented gymnast.

Peyton Stewart, 21

Peyton Stewart, 21, was also a business major at Pepperdine, according to their LinkedIn profiles. Stewart was vice president of finance at their sorority, Alpha Phi.

Parental Grief

“It’s so hard. It’s so hard. It’s every parent’s worst nightmare,’ Tracy Rolston, the mother of crash victim Niamh Rolston, said to Fox Digital. “You have a kid, and you just hope that nothing like this ever happens.

“He killed four girls and walked away without a scratch, and now he’s out,’ she added. ‘I know that justice has to go through the process, but it’s very hard…He sped so hard that he launched a car into them, and they died from blunt force trauma.”

David Rolston, Niamh’s father also weighed in.

“I drove there hoping that it wasn’t true, but her phone said she was there,” Rolston told Fox News Digital through tears. She was a happy girl. She loved life. She had everything going for her. They all did, and their lives were cut short.

“It was very, very hard to hear his attorney say that he was a victim,’ Rolston continued. “Our girls are gone, and he was driving 104 mph and possibly texting. I mean, I do realize he didn’t set out to murder them, but at the same time, you can’t do what he did.”

Asha Weir, 21

Weir, of Harleysville, Pennsylvania, was pursuing her degree in English and was the executive administrator of Alpha Phi.

Deslyn Williams, 21

Williams was from Atlanta, where she had attended St. Pius Catholic School. Niamh, Asha, and Peyton lived together last year, per their social media pages. The four have been on vacation and spent time in their sorority house together.

Bohm was a highly rated high school pitcher who played for Oaks Christian School.

“You Have To Make A Change For The Soul Of Your Organization” | Pro Football Hall Of Famer And Raiders Legend Tim Brown Speaks On Shocking Terminations

On Tuesday night Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis decided to relieve head coach Josh McDaniels and GM Dave Ziegler of their jobs just eight games into their second season with the franchise.

The move comes as the Raiders dropped to 3-5 following Monday night’s 26-14 loss road to the Detroit Lions. Raiders players looked uninspired, disinterested in football, and it’s shown in their effort.

In 25 games under McDaniels the team went 9-16.

Raiders Fans Are Fed Up With Losing Culture Of Head Coach Josh McDaniels | Fans Yell At Owner Mark Davis During Game To “Fire Him”

Star wideout Davante Adams has been among the visibly frustrated Raiders. The Pro Bowl pass catcher threw his helmet down after having only one reception for 11 yards on seven targets.

Raiders Owner Mark Davis Releases Statement On Firing Josh McDaniels

After making the decision to go in another direction, Davis released a statement.

“After much thought about what the Raiders need to move forward, I have decided to part ways with Josh and Dave,” Davis’ statement read. “I want to thank both of them for their hard work and wish them and their families nothing but the best.”

Raiders Legend Tim Brown Speaks On Firings

Following the changes, Brown, a Pro Football Hall of Famer, tweeted this:

“A lot of things I don’t say because I know my words carry weight. And the players can’t say it because they are in the fire. But I felt like this was a repeat 94 season. When internally we knew we had a problem but you couldn’t say it publicly. And We all remember the … Monday night debacle in 03 vs GB. I told Al Davis after the game, you have to make a change for the soul of your organization! Mid-season changes are not easy, kudos to Mark for making this move.”

Brown’s tweet resonates, because McDaniels and Ziegler didn’t do anything during their short tenure to make the Raiders better. It also shows that owner Mark Davis still values the opinions of former team legends.

Brown seemingly spoke on behalf of all the Raiders players who look like they needed a fresh start, something Davis gave them with the firings.

LB Coach Antonio Pierce Named Interim Coach, Champ Kelly GM

In wake of the move, Davis named linebackers coach Antonio Pierce the interim head coach. Davis also promoted assistant GM Champ Kelly to the role of acting GM. What’s even more significant is both are Black, and they join team president Sandra Douglass-Morgan as melanated figures in prominent roles with the franchise.

Kelly told reporters this during a Wednesday press conference to introduce him and Pierce:

“Definitely surprised. I don’t think we saw it coming.”

‘He’s From Europe. They’re A Lot More Cultured Than We Are’ | Gregg Popovich Talks About His Euro Rookie Phenom Victor Wembanyama, But Are His Comments Rooted In Something Else?

San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama is the talk of the early season. His head coach, Gregg Popovich, has been clear in communicating that Wemby, like every other rookie, has a lot to learn. But Pop also believes that he has the right personality, skill set and mindset to develop into a great player. One area Pop believes he will have no problem in is adjusting to being in a foreign country.

“A lot of these places (in the U.S.) are new to him, but he’s a very inquisitive young man. He’s from Europe. They’re a lot more cultured than we are. They’re more civil than we are. They travel, speak languages,” Popovich said in his media availability on Oct. 29. “It’s not like he’s a dumbstruck young kid. He’s pretty worldly. This hype has gone on for a very long time. It’s old hat for him. He doesn’t even notice it.”

The NBA has pushed the globalization of its game since the early 1990s. It was the vision of the late commissioner David Stern. When he sent NBA superstars to the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona it was the initial watershed moment in his grand plan.

Today the NBA has a record 125 international players on active rosters, representing 40 countries and territories across six continents. You could even make the case that four of the top five players in the league right now are international.

That’s progress.

European Culture Better Than American Culture?

But something about Pop’s comments on Wemby might hit differently if you see the league as prioritizing international players and their development over American-born players.

Pop is right when he says Europeans are more cultured than Americans. That doesn’t mean that every European is cultured and every American is uncultured. Hardly.

But many Europeans do grow up with a different understanding of their native culture and other cultures.

For example, in many European schools children must learn English. It’s not like most American schools where you take a language and proficiency isn’t required to pass. In European schools children must become proficient. Why? English is the most common language spoken in the world.

Many Europeans travel throughout the continent through school trips and family travel. The continent is made up of 50 sovereign states and has a total population of 745 million people. Yet, it covers less than 4 million square miles, making it the second-smallest continent.

By comparison North America (U.S. and Canada) covers 9.5 million square miles, making it the third-largest continent. The second-largest country on the continent, the U.S., is home to the largest percentage of the continent’s total population, and the primary language spoken in the U.S. is English.

Traveling from New York to Charlotte is roughly the same distance as Paris to Barcelona. In one instance you’re in the same country, albeit the vibe might be a little different. In the other, you are in a completely different country.

The proximity of different cultures and languages in Europe is vastly different than in North America. That’s one reason why many Europeans are multilingual. Also, many elements of popular culture and entertainment (particularly American) are exported to other continents.

Pop’s assertion that Europeans are more civil is laughable. Countries that make up the European continent have committed some of the most horrific acts in the history of mankind. They’re no different than anywhere else in that regard. There is plenty of uncivilized behavior right out in the open.

Some Of The Best Players In The World Are Not American. That’s OK

But Wemby is “worldly.” He’s been playing professional basketball in France since 2019. He’s traveled the European continent, and others so he’s seen lots of different things.

The International NBA Superstar Is Here To Stay | Straw Poll Of League Personnel Says Four Of The NBA’s Top Five Players In 2028 Will Be Foreign

In interviews he’ll sometimes say “my English is not that good,” but he is clearly more than proficient.

Wemby seems like a special young man. But it’s not because he’s European. It’s likely because he was raised well by his parents and has a good head on his shoulders. Plenty of American-born kids can say the same.

The seeming “international invasion” happening in the NBA isn’t some grand plan to present the European culture as superior, because it isn’t. It’s just different than ours.

An easy way to think about it is style of play.

You might hear that European players play more team-oriented basketball than American players. That’s not exactly true.

In Europe, coaches emphasize tactics more because the overall talent level isn’t as high as it is here in the U.S.

There aren’t a plethora of elite ball-handling shot creators and shot makers in the rest of the world as there are here in the U.S., players who can break off from a team concept and get a score if the team action has been stymied by the defense.

The rest of the world has a few, but the U.S. has a lot.

We just happen to be in a place right now where some of the top players in the world are international, and that’s OK.

The U.S. may have a tougher time now and going forward claiming the “best player in the world” but the depth of U.S. talent is unmatched.

‘It’s Big, I Want To Contribute Like That’ | Texas Rangers Second Baseman Marcus Semien Has Coming Out Party In Games 4 And 5 Of Club’s First World Series Title

Under the direction of first-year manager and now four-time Fall Classic winner Bruce Bochy, the Texas Rangers just clinched their first World Series title in franchise history.

Bochy, who was coaching his grandson’s T-ball team at this time last year, just led a team that won 68 games in 2022 to a World Series title in his first season.

But it was no shortage of stars for the deep and talented Rangers this postseason, and no one stood out like outfielder Adolis Garcia, who prior to a series-ending oblique injury in Game 3 of the World Series hit eight home runs, and his 22 RBI are a record for a single postseason.

$175M Man Comes Through

With Garcia injured, star Marcus Semien stepped up and once again showed why he’s one of the best players in all of baseball.

Black Baseball Player Gets $175M Bag | Texas Rangers Pay Marcus Semien Superstar Money

After struggling all postseason, the all-time single-season leader for homers by a second baseman with 45 in 2021, went 2-for-5 with one home run and five RBI in the Rangers’ 11-7 Game 4 win.

Prior to Game 4 Semien had tallied just three RBI all postseason. He added another two-run homer in Game 5, which for all intents and purposes put the game and series out of reach.

Semien’s Moment Was Poetic

After posting a .276 batting average with 29 homers, 100 RBI, and 185 hits during the regular season, Semien struggled mightily at the plate until his Game 4 outburst. Tuesday’s hitting display was bound to happen for Semien, the two-time All-Star and MVP candidate. This past season he became the first player since Alfonso Soriano (2002 New York Yankees) to lead the American League in both runs and hits.

Semien’s talent is undeniable, and like any other great player he was in a slump. In his postgame interview, Semien was precise and to the point, like he is on the diamond, telling reporters, “I want to contribute like that. Baseball’s tough though. You’re going to have stretches where you just don’t.”

Semien Happy To Win World Series In Front Of Family: Teammates Knew It Was Time

As Semien rounded the bases, he waved at his family in the stands cheering him on. He mentioned that in his postgame interview.

“Big moment for all my family in the stands, just to see me play in the World Series,” Semien said. “I appreciate them giving me the support, my wife, my parents, my children. Those people would be cheering for me if I do well or if I don’t. Those are the people who mean everything to me.”

Rangers first baseman Nathaniel Lowe said his teammate was “due.” He quoted this to reporters following the Game 4 win.

“Anytime you can put together a regular season where you’re an MVP contender and you’re not playing to that same standard, you’ve got to be pretty frustrated and disappointed,” Lowe said.

After Games 4 and 5 all that frustration from a postseason mini-slump for Semien changed in a flash, and now he can add World Series champion to his stellar résumé.

‘They Did Drive Him Off The Road’ | Former California HS Baseball Star Whose Crash Killed Four Pepperdine Students Is Out On $4 Million Bond And Claims He’s Victim Of Road Rage

Twenty-two-year-old Fraser Bohm, who killed four Pepperdine students on Oct. 17, when he lost control of his car and crashed into them as they were walking on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu has been released on a $4 million bond according to reports.

Bohm was initially arrested for gross vehicular manslaughter and released. After an investigation by Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, he was re-arrested on Oct. 24 and charged with four counts of murder in connection with the deaths of Niamh Rolston, Peyton Stewart, Asha Weir, and Deslyn Williams.

Wealthy Ex-California HS Baseball Star Whose Parents Own $8M Mansion Crashes Car And Kills Four Pepperdine University Seniors

Bohm’s Attorney Claims Client Was Involved In Road Rage Incident

Bohm’s attorney, Michael Kraut, claims his client was involved in a road rage incident that started at Duke’s Malibu — a seafood restaurant — roughly three miles from where the fatal crash took place.

Kraut also said that security footage has been obtained that corroborates those claims. He even said they’ve identified the driver of the other vehicle and that local authorities may have arrested the wrong person.

“We’ve actually been able to track down who this person is, and the person who admitted to a family member that they did drive him off the road,” Kraut told KTLA.

At the time of the accident there were reports that suggested Bohm was speeding at over 100 mph in a 45 mph zone before the crash, but Kraut denied the accuracy of the reports and said data from his client’s vehicle will show he was driving at approximately 70 mph.

Seems like a moot point. Either way Bohm was speeding. What does that security footage show and how is it connected to Bohm crashing his car into the four women?

Following a court appearance on Oct. 25, where Bohm pleaded not guilty, his bond was reduced from $8 million to $4 million.

Parents Of Pepperdine Students Killed In The Crash Want Justice

Niamh Rolston’s mother, Tracy called the loss of her daughter “every parent’s worst nightmare” in an emotional interview with Fox News Digital.

“He’s killed four girls and walked away without a scratch, and now he’s out,’ she added. “I know that justice has to go through the process, but it’s very hard.”

Local Community Wants Stronger Safety Measures On PCH

The Pacific Coast Highway is a 656-mile state highway that runs along the Pacific coastline in California. It is among the most scenic routes in the United States. But the stretch where the four Pepperdine University students were killed long has been known to locals as “Dead Man’s Curve,” due to the treacherous nature of the curves in the road and the deaths that have taken place over the years.

During a press conference following the crash, Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Capt. Jennifer Seetoo made an appeal to local officials and law enforcement to “partner together and save lives.”

Neighbors, Pepperdine officials, and advocates for traffic safety organized demonstrations following the tragic deaths of the four students, urging safety enhancements along the dangerous roadway. Proposals include speed cameras, reduced speed limits, and heightened law enforcement patrols.

‘Jim Harbaugh. It Looks Like He’s Sheperding A Sleezy, Disgusting, Cheating Program’: Paul Finebaum Says Michigan Needs To Be Investigated After Staffer Connor Stalions Seen On CMU Sideline Allegedly Stealing Signs

Suspended University of Michigan football staff member Connor Stalions was allegedly seen on the Central Michigan sidelines last Saturday in CMU gear wearing sunglasses. Stalions is suspended because he is at the center of the NCAA’s investigation into off-campus scouting and signal stealing. ESPN college football pundit Paul Finebaum thinks there is a deep-seated problem in Ann Arbor.

“You have to start looking at the crumbs,” said Finebaum on “Get Up” this week. “This entire program has something extremely nefarious going on.”

Finebaum continued on his rant and imploring any governing body who would listen to hold Jim Harbaugh accountable or at least ask a few questions.

“Jim Harbaugh,” Finebaum said at one point, “It looks like he’s sheperding a sleezy, disgusting, cheating program.”

Shots fired for sure.

What Is Going On With Michigan Football?

The man believed to be Stalions is seen wearing sunglasses during a night game, and in video of the game whenever a play ended near where he was standing he appeared to shield his face from cameras.

According to ESPN Stalions paid for tickets at 12 Big Ten schools and for several other games involving possible Michigan opponents. A former Division III football player and coach said that Stalions paid him to attend games involving Michigan opponents and record their sideline with his cellphone.

We’re lucky this is just about sports so we can place it in proper perspective and have fun with its absurdity. Sign stealing? Really?

‘You’ve Still Got To Stop It’: Deion Sanders Downplays Michigan Football Signal Stealing Scandal, Colorado Coach Chalks It Up To ‘Getting An Edge’

You can imagine the Michigan football coaches looking at cellphone video of teams’ sidelines breaking down calls during prep sessions.

But this is the nature of ultra competitive sports with billions of dollars on the line. The people involved will do just about anything to gain a competitive edge.

So far Michigan hasn’t made any official comments, but this is a bad look for the storied program.

The Buck Stops With Harbaugh

Head coach Jim Harbaugh began the season serving a self-imposed three-game suspension for lying to NCAA investigators about violations during the COVID-19 dead period.

Earlier this year Glenn “Shemy” Schembechler, son of longtime Michigan coach Bo Schembechler, resigned from his position as Michigan’s assistant director of football recruiting after making racist comments on social media.

Now we have Stalions, already suspended for alleged sign stealing, pulling this alleged stunt. All of this is happening under Harbaugh’s watch. He is the man in charge, and while a big-time college football program has tons of staff and many things happening at once, don’t be fooled into thinking Harbaugh isn’t privy to everything.

The only way Stalions would do what he is alleged to have done is if he felt that his head coach promoted the “whatever it takes” strategy to win games. Including sign stealing.

All of this is stupid and if Michigan is in fact guilty, they should be levied with whatever the appropriate punishment is.

Feinbaum is right. Something nefarious is going on at Michigan, but it’s going on at every other big-time college football program too. We just haven’t heard about it yet.

Simpson says that one time during a surgery he woke up and figured he was in hell with the devil, and he was hearing Wu-Tang Clan. There are still some folks who believe Simpson should be sent to the underworld for the 1994 murder and acquittal scandal that captivated the world.

Simpson also said that prior to seeking medical attention, he was having some strange episodes where he would fall asleep at the wheel at stoplights, and that is what prompted him to get help.

“First of all, the most poignant thing was I was getting sleepy at stoplights. So I called my doctor, went to the hospital, and they put me in immediately. Next thing I know, I got two crews of people talking about opening my chest and doing stuff to my heart.” Simpson said.

While he was slated for open-heart surgery at first, doctors ultimately decided to do the procedure through his wrist.

Why Did O.J. Think He Was In Hell?

The procedure was necessary in order to install a stent (a tube that can hold arteries open) into his heart. This took place in July, and it looks like everything is fine now, especially since he lived to tell the story.

But at the time, the five-time All-Pro felt like he was going to die. When he woke up, he thought he was in hell since, in his opinion, there was no way Wu-Tang Clan’s music would be played at the Pearly Gates.

“I kinda woke up earlier, and I wake up in the middle of this and they’re, like, blasting the Wu-Tang crew,” he added. “And I’m thinking, ‘What is that I’m hearing?’ and it was the Wu-Tang crew. You know, I guess some people when they do surgeries, they play Bach or they play Chopin or something. But I’m hearing the Wu-Tang crew and I’m like ‘Oh, I know they ain’t playing this up here. Am I down here?”

Of course, after Simpson finished the story, Cam’ron and Ma$e began dying of laughter and had jokes. The entire conversation with “Juice” was lighthearted, fast-paced and funny.

O.J. Simpson has been very accessible to the media and opinionated on football matters since his release from prison in 2017. He’s been enjoying the attention as well as the publicity of his own persona, and, of course, his legendary story about the murder of his ex-wife and her friend, as well as the books that he wrote.

OJ Simpson Has Some Advice For Mike Tomlin | Juice Says The Pittsburgh Steelers Quarterback Controversy Is An Easy Fix

So it’s only right that he tells his story about his “near-death” experience involving the Wu-Tang Clan. It’s more O.J. madness and all these years later, people still can’t get enough.

While “The Human Highlight Film” Dominique Wilkins Shops His Incredible Life Story, Son Jacob “Baby Highlight” Starts A New Chapter and Commits To His Dad’s Alma Mater Georgia

It’s a legacy season in college basketball! The latest former NBA legend’s son to commit to his father’s alma mater is Jacob Wilkins, the son of “The Human Highlight Film” Dominique Wilkins. The younger Wilkins is a four-star prospect, and he chose the Bulldogs over Virginia; he also had offers from Alabama, Indiana, and Cincinnati.

“I just feel at home,” Jacob said on YouTube, where he announced his decision. “I trust everyone there. I come in there with a last name, but I know I’ll make my own name going there. Not just being the son of Dominique Wilkins but Jacob Wilkins.”

Standing at 6 feet 8, the power forward from Grayson High School in Grayson, Georgia, is currently the No. 57-ranked prospect in the ESPN 60 class of 2025. Per reports, he is the No. 11 power forward prospect and No. 4 player in his class in the state of Georgia.

Georgia’s Coming

Bulldogs coach Mike White is looking to build an impressive roster. He landed forward Asa Newell less than a week ago, the second five-star prospect to commit to the Bulldogs since the ESPN recruiting database started in 2007.

Dominique was a star for the Bulldogs from 1979 to 1982, averaging 21.6 points and 7.5 rebounds. He won SEC Player of the Year in 1981 and was the No. 3 pick in the 1982 NBA draft by the Utah Jazz and was traded to the Atlanta Hawks. James Worthy went No. 1 that year to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Dominique was a nine-time All-Star and two-time winner of the NBA’s slam dunk contest.

The Georgia Bulldogs have been a family affair as Jacob’s cousin, Damien Wilkins, played for Georgia from 2002 to ’04 and averaged 12.6 points and 5.4 rebounds.

The Human Highlight Documentary

The timing couldn’t be more perfect, as the Hall of Famer is getting the documentary treatment soon for his remarkable NBA career. Wilkins is currently the VP of basketball operations for the Atlanta Hawks.

“To Say Something As Idiotic As That Is Ridiculous” | Dominique Wilkins Wishes He Could Put JJ Redick In A Time Machine

“I think the goal is to go from no light to highlight, you know, highlight being my nickname,” Wilkins said to The Hollywood Reporter in an interview. “And what that means is that when all seemed to fail, and there was no light at the end of the tunnel, to see my fight and my determination to get to what I call my highlight moment in life.”

Top 5 NFL Rookies Following Week 8 | Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs Explodes In Team’s First Monday Night Home Win In Nine Seasons

In Week 8 of the season, these NFL rookies went out and had themselves a day.

Jahmyr Gibbs, Detroit Lions, RB

Gibbs, the former Alabama standout who was surprisingly taken with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft, has shown flashes.

The speedy dual-threat back had his breakout game on Monday night, that game happened with Gibbs rushing for over 150 yards on 26 carries, including one touchdown run.

Gibbs showed off his pass-catching ability with five receptions for 37 more yards. Gibbs’ huge night led to the Lions’ first home win on “MNF” in nine seasons.

The Lions are now 6-2 and two games ahead of the second-place Minnesota Vikings in the NFC North.

In his postgame interview, Lions head coach Dan Campbell raved about his stud back.

“Every week, he’s just gotten a little better and a little better. I thought last week he had his best game, and this week certainly surpassed that,” Campbell said.

Will Levis, Tennessee Titans, QB

Filling in for injured starter Ryan Tannehill, the strong-armed Levis had himself a debut. The former Kentucky Wildcats star not only led the team to a win, he did it while completing 19 of 29 passes for 238 yards and four touchdowns.

He finished his first NFL start with a 130.5 passer rating while making history as only the third QB behind Fran Tarkenton and Marcus Mariota to have at least four touchdown passes in his first NFL game.

Known for his strong arm, Levis also became the first to have three touchdowns over 30-yards in their debut. An elated Levis talked to reporters following his huge debut.

“This is a dream come true, for sure,” Levis said on Sunday. “I dreamed of this moment as a kid, and to get a win is incredible. But we have a few more minutes to celebrate it today, then we’re on to Pittsburgh, as [Titans coach Mike] Vrabel would say.”

Bryce Young, Carolina Panthers, QB

The 2023 No. 1 overall pick posted his best game of the season as the Panthers got their first win, a 15-13 squeaker over No. 2 overall pick C.J. Stroud and the Houston Texans. Young’s performance — 22 of 31 for 235 yards and one touchdown — was more about his ability under pressure than his overall stat line.

Young proved why he was the Panthers’ choice as the top overall pick, and head coach Frank Reich said Young’s resilience is why you can’t label a player after just six weeks of football.

Jordan Addison, Minnesota Vikings, WR

One week after posting his career-high day of seven receptions for 123 yards and two touchdowns, the former Biletnikoff Award winner went out and hauled in seven more catches for 82 yards and another touchdown in a 24-10 win over the division rival Packers at Lambeau Field.

Addison has filled into that No. 1 receiver role rather nicely with Justin Jefferson injured. Losing quarterback Kirk Cousins to a torn Achilles hurt, but the team did trade for journeyman Josh Dobbs in an effort to still make a playoff push.

Devon Witherspoon, Seattle Seahawks, CB

It safe to say the Seahawks had a great 2023 NFL draft with wide receiver Jaxson Smith-Njigba beginning to show signs, and with Witherspoon taking opposing receivers out of the game the Hawks look primed for a nice playoff run. Witherspoon is leading a defense that’s allowed a grand total of nine points in the second half the past four weeks.

They’ve also permitted zero paydirt touches as well, which is marked improvement for a team that struggled on that side of the football last season. As of now, Spoon has the second-highest odds to take home the DROY award, trailing only Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter.

Former NFL Player Says Deion Should’ve Had Same Energy Toward Locker-Room Theft At UCLA As He Did When It Happened At Jackson State | Coach Prime Responds As Only He Can

While the Colorado Buffaloes are still licking their wounds from Saturday’s 28-16 road loss to the UCLA Bruins, fallout from the jewelry theft in the Buffs locker room is still apparent.

Following Saturday’s game, Pro Football Hall of Famer and first-year head coach Deion Sanders mentioned that his team had some possessions stolen from their locker room at the Rose Bowl.

Stolen goods reportedly included jewelry, cash and other items. How Sanders seemingly handled this incident versus a similar one while he was at Jackson State University caught the attention of a former NFL player, Doc Holliday.

Doc Holliday Comes For Coach Prime

The former St. Louis Rams running back says he believes Sanders didn’t show the same angst and disdain toward those at the University of California, Los Angeles than he did when it happened at Jackson State.

In a tweet posted to his X social media account, Holliday had this to say to the legendary defensive back.

“Hey Deion, Coach Prime … I remember when you went off when you were coaching at Jackson State, when you said somebody stole all your stuff out of the locker room. You pretty much lambasted the university, lambasted the city … You seemed to be pretty p’d off. You seemed to be going at the school and university pretty hard…

“Now according to reports, the same thing just happened at the Rose Bowl when y’all were playing UCLA. So, I, really need that same kind of energy and that same kind of outrage that you were showing when you were at Jackson State.”

Was Deion Sanders Response To Rose Bowl Robbery Hypocritical?

Holliday is insinuating that Sanders took it easy when it comes to the recent incident, but not when his personal stuff like his wallet, cell phone and jewelry were allegedly stolen at Jackson State.

(we later come to find out the items were just “moved” for safe keeping, but no one seems to care about the actual details of each situation.

Including the fact that Jackson State was where Deion coached and gave so much to the university while he was there. It’s always more painful and disrespectful when you get got in your own backyard.

To Holiday’s point, the areas in which the incidents took place also are vastly different: with Jackson, Mississippi, being majority Black and Los Angeles having a higher makeup of white residents.

Sanders wrote back to Holliday on X with the following message…

“My brother move on with your life. I have and I’m too BLESSED to be stressed with yesterday’s inconsistencies. You’re talking about two different circumstances. God bless you because he’s sure blessing me.”

Coach Prime Wants NCAA To Make It Right

In the wake of the theft, Bruins authorities filed a police report with the Pasadena Police Department concerning the items.

On Tuesday, during his daily presser, Coach Prime took things a little further when he mentioned that his players should receive some sort of compensation or reimbursement for the items.

“Our kids got robbed during the game last week. I think that’s a travesty. I would expect the NCAA to do something about that.

“This is the Rose Bowl. They said the granddaddy of ‘‘em of all, right? I’m sure granddaddy had some money. Grandpa should have some money to give these kids.”

Sanders is speaking some truth, but that’s not how this works, and in the end it’s highly plausible that those players who had items taken may have to chalk it up as a loss.

Jumpman Gut Punch | Larsa Pippen Will Change Her Last Name After She Marries Michael Jordan’s Son Marcus

Larsa Pippen is ready to make her full transition into the Jumpman family by becoming a Jordan. The former wife of one Scottie Pippen, one of the all-time great defenders, is transitioning to arguably the greatest basketball player of all time.

Larsa Pippen, revealed alongside her boyfriend Marcus Jordan that once they are married she will be changing her last name from Pippen to Jordan and joining the Jordan Brand.

Larsa Pippen And Marcus Jordan Are Already Making Money Off Their Relationship | You Won’t Believe The Tea Larsa Spilled On The Couples’ “Separation Anxiety Podcast”

Larsa Pippen Changing Last Name To Jordan

The couple revealed these name-changing plans on Pablo Torre’s podcast, where they were talked about their marriage plans and their future together.

“On the wedding date she’s a Jordan and any (future) kids would be Jordan” Marcus Jordan said.

Larsa backed him up in this claim, saying “When I do get remarried I’m going to change my last name.”

Meet The Parents: Larsa Pippen Has Michael Jordan And Juanita’s Blessing To Date Marcus Jordan

The relationship between Marcus Jordan and Larsa Pippen has been controversial ever since the pair began dating, especially because it happened right around Larsa and Scottie Pippen’s official divorce.

But Marcus has zero care in the world about how Scottie feels, especially when you factor in Scottie’s yearly “Michael Jordan isn’t better than LeBron” rant that he goes on. It’s petty, but you know how the rich and famous do.

Larsa Pippen and Michael Jordan’s Son Getting Married?

Now even though this couple is running around talking about future marriage plans, they made it clear on the podcast that they’re not yet engaged, nor does anyone know when they plan on getting engaged.

“I had a 100 calls and text messages of people congratulating us and I was like, ‘I’m so excited’ — but no, we’re not engaged,” Larsa said.

“We’re Looking For A Location” | Looks Like Larsa Pippen And Marcus Jordan Are Headed For The Altar

But right now, it just seems like the lovefest is going full steam ahead with these two, and along with the idea of changing her last name to Jordan, Marcus wanted to make the family even tighter. But his way of doing so is basically asking his father to contribute to the “disrespect” shown to Scottie Pippen, his former teammate that he won six championships with.

Marcus said that he wants his father, Michael, to be his best man at his wedding with Larsa.

New Era In D.C.? | Commanders Set For Rebuild Following Trades Of Starting Edge Rushers Montez Sweat And Chase Young. Were Those The Right Moves?

The NFL trade deadline was going pretty quietly — that is it until Tuesday afternoon. That’s when the Washington Commanders not only traded former first-round pick Montez Sweat to the Chicago Bears for a third-round pick, but they also traded 2020 No. 2 overall pick and DMV native Chase Young to the San Francisco 49ers. While both moves had been rumored to be a possibility, most believed only one would be dealt, if either.

On Tuesday the Josh Harris group, which purchased the team this summer and includes NBA legend Magic Johnson, decided to hit the reset button and rebuild their roster. The moves prove that the Commanders are writing off this season for the future, and at 3-5 and in a division with the Philadelphia Eagles (7-1) and Dallas Cowboys (5-2) it’s probably a smart move to build for the future.

Team Soured On Young, Sweat Wasn’t Re-Signing

When they paired Young and Sweat together in 2020, the hopes were high, with many around the organization believing they had Charles Mann and Dexter Manley kind of ability as a duo. That never came to fruition, as both had moments but never became elite.

The team decided to pick up Sweat’s fifth-year option which happens to be this season, and declined to pick up Young’s fifth-year option, which would’ve been next season. Reports are Sweat’s agent informed the team that he wouldn’t re-sign at season’s end. With Young it seems his freelancing ways had become too much to deal with. In fact, Mike Silver of the San Francisco Chronicle, who’ll now be covering Young, said this following the trade:

“Young, according to several Commanders coaches and other organizational sources, was viewed as an undisciplined player who developed bad habits such as deviating from assignments to make splash plays,” Silver wrote Tuesday. “His off-the-field priorities and commitment to his craft were often questioned, and he was viewed internally as a player who plateaued as a rookie.”

Were These The Right Moves?

That remains to be seen, but this writer could see trading one of the two, not both. Sweat seemed gone, so the belief was they’d stand pat with Young for at least one more season. On the flip side, and as it pertains to the money each player could’ve been demanding, the moves are correct. Edge rusher is the third-highest-paid position in the NFL after the quarterback and wide receiver position, and trying to pay two wasn’t something the Commanders were interested in doing. Especially after tying big money into the interior of their defensive line with tackles DaRon Payne and Jonathan Allen.

With a young promising quarterback in Sam Howell, and a ton of cap space, the team is now set up for a nice rebuild. Fans in the DMV will have to be patient and let it play out over time.

The Harris group isn’t done making moves, so it would be very surprising to see head coach Ron Rivera and defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio not back after this season.

They traded James Harden, P.J. Tucker and the aforementioned Sweat and Young in 11 hours.

Nobody’s SAFE!

Top 5 Defenses Following Week 8 | K.C. Chiefs’ Defense Carries Slumping Patrick Mahomes

Thus far this season NFL defenses have had the upper hand most weeks. During Week 8, that didn’t change much, as defenses won the weekend once again.

Baltimore Ravens (6-2)

When you think Ravens you always think defense and physicality. While this 2023 version won’t make you think the 2000 Ray Lewis-led defense, they’re damn good. In the team’s big 31-24 road win over the Arizona Cardinals, the defense, led by their two inside linebackers Patrick Queen and Roquan Smith, forced two turnovers and two sacks.

This season the Ravens lead the league in scoring defense at 13.9 points per game. They’re also second in red zone defense at 23.5 percent.

That, with an efficient offense under the direction of star QB Lamar Jackson, is a recipe for success come January.

Kansas City Chiefs (6-2)

Even in a road loss to the Denver Broncos, their first since 2015, K.C.’s defense was up to snuff. On a day when QB Patrick Mahomes couldn’t get things going on offense, the Chiefs defense held the Broncos to just 14 points until a late muffed punt put the game out of reach. All-Pro defensive lineman Chris Jones continues to dominate, and cornerback Trent McDuffie looks like the stud he was drafted to be.

They’ll need their young, talented linebacker group to get healthy after losing Nick Bolton and William Gay to injuries in consecutive weeks.

Second-year pass rusher George Karlaftis has six sacks, including 2.5 on Sunday.

Dallas Cowboys (5-2)

When the Cowboys’ offense gives them an early lead it unleashes their hellacious pass rush led by back-to-back DPOY runner-up Micah Parsons. That was the case in Sunday’s 43-20 blowout win over the Los Angeles Rams. Cornerback Daron Bland, who’s filling in for the injured Trevon Diggs, had his third pick six of the season, and overall, the Cowboys just completely overwhelmed the Rams, holding to them 280 total yards.

New York Jets (4-3)

Another week and another standout performance by the Jets defense, this time in the battle of MetLife Stadium residents. In an ugly 13-10 win over the Giants, it was edge rusher Jermaine Johnson who came up big with two sacks and four QB hits. It wasn’t the recipe the Jets have used most of the season to stop opposing offenses, as most weeks they’re forcing a ton of turnovers.

Sunday once again proved this Jets team is as legit on defense as we have in the league, and if their offense doesn’t lose games for them they’ll be in every game.

Jacksonville Jaguars (6-2)

Since starting the season 1-2 the Jags have reeled off five wins in a row. While most would think their offense is leading the surge, it’s actually been their stingy defense that’s led the way, with timely sacks, forced turnovers and big third-down stops. That was the case in Sunday’s Road win at the Steelers, where they held a struggling Pittsburgh offense to 261 total yards and 10 points.

Two big interceptions stymied Steelers drives and led to Jags points that proved to be the difference in the end. Edge rusher Josh Allen is becoming one of the best in the league, and the defense as a whole is growing each week.

“SKIMS Has Quickly Become One Of Our Most Culturally-Influential Brands” | Adam Silver And The NBA Partnering With Kim Kardashian Makes Sense

Kim Kardashian‘s SKIMS is now the official underwear partner of the NBA, the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) and USA Basketball. If you think about it, it makes perfect sense for the NBA.

This Makes Sense For The NBA

Of the four major North American professional sports leagues, the NBA is the one most closely associated with pop culture, and has the biggest social media presence. Two areas that Kardashian herself dominates. Not to mention she’s dated a baller or two…

“SKIMS has quickly become one of our most culturally-influential brands,” said NBA commissioner Adam Silver in a press release. “We look forward to bringing NBA fans and SKIMS users unique experiences, new offerings and premium products through our partnership.

“Together, SKIMS, the NBA, WNBA and USA Basketball will leverage the power of basketball to generate excitement and demand, by showing up in unexpected ways.  Fans will see the partnership come to life at future marquee events, including NBA All-Star and the NBA In-Season Tournament.”

Despite Kardashian’s ubiquity in pop culture and seemingly unserious things, she is a legitimate businesswoman.

Kim Kardashian Is A Legit Businesswoman

Kardashian has a net worth of over $1 billion, she has had a hand in a number of businesses over the past 20 years, including the “Kim Kardashian: Hollywood” video game (2014 – present), which was acquired by Glu Mobile in a $2.4 billion deal in 2021, and her emojis or “Kimojis” (2015 – 2018), which reportedly made $1 million per minute in its heyday.

In 2009, she launched the shoe subscription service ShoeDazzle with Brian Lee and Robert Shapiro, which was later bought by JustFab in 2013 with an estimated value of $30 million at the time, per Business Insider.

Kim launched KKW Beauty, in 2017 and KWW Fragrance. She launched SKIMS in 2019, and the company sold $2 million worth of products just minutes after it debuted. Today, the company is valued at $3.2 billion.

SKIMS launched its menswear division on October 26, featuring Oklahoma City Thunder’s star guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, as brand pioneer.

Her latest venture is private equity firm SKKY Partners, which launched in September 2022 to invest and build in hospitality, media, and luxury businesses.

The NBA is fighting for eyes, viewers, and mindshare like every other entertainment property. Not to mention they are negotiating their next media rights deal. They need to show potential broadcast partners that there is a tremendous appetite to consume their product. If that means tapping into the Kardashian fan base, so be it.

NBA Board Of Governors Approve New Tougher Rules On Resting Star Players | Why This Won’t Solve The “Problem” And The League Is Telling On Itself

You can see it now, an episode of “The Kardashians” where Kim is talking about an event or shoot with the NBA and star player X, and how it’s going. Or that she finds star player X, to be “cute.” There will be people who otherwise wouldn’t tuning in to that player’s games to catch a glimpse. Look how many “Swifties” tune in to Kansas City Chiefs games.

This is the world of sports and entertainment in 2023. There is no line. It’s all one thing.

“It’s Creepy, It’s Weird, It’s Predatory” | Seattle High School Football Team’s Punishment For Group Chats Revealing Horrifically Explicit Messages Aimed At Female Students Incites Protest

An unspecified number of students, including football players, have been suspended from Seattle’s Chief Sealth International High School in connection with threatening text messages talking about violating female students, according to reports.

Screenshots of text messages sent in a group chat consisting primarily of sophomore boys on the school’s football team were posted on Instagram, that’s how parents and other students found out and alerted administration.

Sexual Violence Aimed At Female Students

“I saw the screenshot; it was basically like, ‘Oh, we want to bend her over and we want to rip her pants off,'” a freshman student said to Fox 13 Seattle.

“Just wrong,” another freshman told the station. “It’s creepy, it’s weird, it’s predatory.”

Last Friday more than 100 students walked out of school to protest what they feel was inadequate punishment by the school and not enough being done to prioritize the safety of students.

Students who participated gathered on the football field for more than two hours demanding action. The students protesting claimed officials are not doing enough to stop what they call an ongoing problem of harassment and sexual assaults at the school.

School Principal Ray Morales wrote a letter, which can be found on the school’s website, where he said he takes the safety and well-being of the students seriously.

One-Off Incident Or A Pattern Of Dangerous Behavior

But a senior at the school wrote an email in response to the West Seattle Blog that contradicts Morales’ assertion.

“I am a 12th-grade student at Chief Sealth International High School. At our school, some of the boys on our football team and in general have been known to sexually assault, catcall and harass women, as well as yell slurs and hate-crime queer and other students,” the anonymous student wrote. “The only thing that has happened to these boys, up to this point, has been a slap on the wrist, and events like this continue to occur.”

Middletown Area School Football Players Expelled And Charged With Hazing And Sexual Assault

If enough students and parents push this issue, Seattle Public Schools and Chief Sealth International High School will have a serious problem on their hands. If this incident is a pattern of widespread behavior that has been largely ignored, this will become a national scandal.

This incident isn’t limited to the immediate punishment or results of an investigation. The female students involved that were personally targeted for sexual violence will now have to deal with the trauma of this incident. It’s not something that will go away tomorrow. They will have to live with it and likely be reminded whenever they see the boys that perpetrated this act.

All students should feel safe when they attend school and if the adults responsible for their safety have been negligent, someone will pay.

It’s even harder to monitor and identify poor student behavior with the emergence of technology. But school districts and their schools must adapt to the times.

Protect Your Neck! White Hockey Player Killed By Accident With Skate Blade By Black Player But Should The Latter Be In Jail?

Former NHL player Adam Johnson was a victim of a tragic accident on the ice during a hockey game on Saturday, Oct. 28 in Sheffield, England. The NHL forward was cut in the neck by another player’s skate during a game and is now dead after the collision. The viral video is horrific as Johnson was skating into the offensive zone on a routine play when Matt Petgrave went to finish his check, his left hook came off the ice, fish hooking Johnson in the neck.

Johnson immediately crumpled to the ice, motionless. The game was stopped, and Johnson received emergency treatment on the ice before being transported to Sheffield’s Northern General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

https://youtu.be/8gV2n0X_R2s?si=kKfJ9C466kfdtUsJ

Racially Polarized Death

Johnson is white, and Petgrave is Black, which adds another layer of polarization. Many fans on social media are calling for Petgrave’s arrest, believing that the play was dirty and that authorities should charge him with manslaughter.

Johnson was playing for the Nottingham Panthers in an Elite Ice Hockey League Challenge Cup game against the Sheffield Steelers when he suffered the injury during the second period. Nottingham and the EIHL described the collision as a “freak accident.”

Manslaughter is typically defined as the crime of killing a human being without malice aforethought or, in other words, murder without premeditation.

Petgrave, a 31-year-old from Toronto, has been subject to death threats and racial abuse online since the incident. He has protected his Twitter account and is reportedly “absolutely distraught” over the incident.

“The Nottingham Panthers are truly devastated to announce that Adam Johnson has tragically passed away following a freak accident at the game in Sheffield last night,” a team statement said on Sunday. “Adam, our number 47, was not only an outstanding ice hockey player, but also a great teammate and an incredible person with his whole life ahead of him. The Club will dearly miss him and will never ever forget him.”

Johnson, a native of Minnesota, was a former assistant captain of the hockey team at the University of Minnesota Duluth. In the 2016-17 season, he ranked second on the team in goals, points, and shots. He helped lead the team to an NCAA West Regional win and a National Collegiate Hockey Conference Frozen Faceoff championship. Johnson also was selected to the NCHC All-Academic Team twice.

“We are deeply devastated to learn last evening of the passing of Adam Johnson,” the university said in a statement. “Adam was loved and admired by his teammates, coaches, and staff. As talented as he was on the ice, he was even a better person. Adam remained connected to the program, and for our time with him we are eternally grateful. Adam, we love you, we will miss you.”

Tragic Loss

Johnson left school early to go pro, and played for the Pittsburgh Penguins in 13 games during the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons in the National Hockey League.

“The Pittsburgh Penguins join the entire hockey world in mourning the life of Adam Johnson, whose life tragically ended far too soon,” the Penguins said in a statement. “We offer our deepest condolences to Adam’s family and friends, as well as all of Adam’s past and present teammates and coaches. Adam will always be part of the Penguins family.”

The English Ice Hockey Association is making neck guards mandatory for its players after Dec. 31. Usually, the safety equipment is for hockey beginners. However, the elite divisions do not require the players to wear neck guards.

There have been other incidents of freak neck cuts during hockey gameplay. A high school sophomore in Connecticut named Teddy Balkind died after succumbing to a neck cut in a collision. In the NHL, Clint Malarchuk of the Buffalo Sabres had his neck cut during a game against the St. Louis Blues in 1989, but he survived the accident.

Now That James Harden Has Been Traded And We Can Focus On The Games, Who Are The Three NBA Players That Have Our Attention After Week One?

James Harden was finally traded from the Philadelphia 76ers to the Los Angeles Clippers in a deal that saw P.J. Tucker and Filip Petrusev join Harden in LA.

Heading to Philadelphia are Marcus Morris, Robert Covington, Nic Batum, KJ Martin, a 2028 unprotected first-round pick, two second-round picks, a 2029 pick swap and an additional first-round pick from the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Now that James Harden has been traded, Tyrese Maxey is the lead guard. Maxey, along with Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic and Pistons youngster Jalen Duren, has already made an impact early in the season.

We’ve now been through the first week of the NBA season, and most teams have played at least three games. It’s a small sample size, but these players have our attention.

1. Nikola Jokic, Denver Nuggets

It’s so unfair to pick the world’s best player, but here we are. Jokic has picked up where he left off in last year’s playoffs, where he led the Nuggets to their first title and was named Finals MVP.

‘We Get It, Y’all Won, But Me And LeBron…We Can’t Wait’ | Anthony Davis Motivated By Nuggets’ Trash Talk, But Is He Better Than Nikola Jokic?

Through three games the Nuggets are 3-0 and Jokic is averaging 26 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists per game.

2. Tyrese Maxey, Philadelphia 76ers

Now that James Harden has been traded, Tyrese Maxey is the lead guard. Maxey, along with Joel Embiid, have led the Sixers to a 2-1 record. At 22 years old, Maxey is nowhere near his peak, and he’s already very good. He’s already had four 30-point playoff games in his young career.

This season he’s averaging 30 points, six rebounds, and six assists. Sixers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey acquired a number of defensive-minded players as a part the Harden trade. They will pair well with Maxey; you can see the vision.

Sixers Should Focus On A New Contract For Rising Star Tyrese Maxey | The James Harden Drama Is Played Out

3. Jalen Duren, Detroit Pistons

The second-year big man is looking like he’ll be the Pistons’ starting center for the next decade plus. Imagine Duren and Cade Cunningham in the pick and roll for years!

Through three games, the Pistons are 2-1 and Duren is averaging 18 points, 15 rebounds, four assists and two blocks per game. He’s shooting an astounding 80 percent from the field. Now, that’s mostly off dunks, lobs and put-backs. But still. Those shooting numbers will not last, but what if he’s 63 or 65 percent from the field for the season?

Duren and the Pistons, under new head coach Monty Williams, are looking to be better on both ends of the floor. But they also want a defensive identity, something they can depend on when the offense struggles.

“A lot of these veteran teams, it’s going to be harder to win with that amount of turnovers and mishaps on the offensive end,” Duren said last week. “We can’t rely on that, but the defensive end helps us. It keeps the game close. Being able to get three, four or five stops in a row and then capitalize on those stops is everything. That’s something we can build our foundation off of.”

If Williams gets these young guys to buy in defensively this team will be competing for a play-in spot and the playoffs before too long.
