Super Bowl LVIII set Las Vegas on fire with a close matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs, who repeated against the San Francisco 49ers in overtime.
However, for the sports casuals and fans of entertainment alike, pop star Usher’s halftime show performance was a highlight that was both lauded and lamented simultaneously. For many, the appearance of songstress Alicia Keys was the âlittle ballad moment that couldâ but failed for many reasons.
Boxer Gervonta “Tank” Davis took to social media to let the world know that if he were Swizz Beatz, the hit music producer husband of Keys, Usher would have had a real problem under the hot lights of Las Vegas after the performance.
“Usher would’ve been on the way to the hospital as I write this is I was Swizz..,” Davis tweeted during the game.
It was no secret that Usher gyrated behind and hand-pantomimed Keys’s assets before grabbing her from behind at the end of the performance to laughter from Keys. The singer looked phenomenal in a red shimmery bodysuit that detached from an epic flowing red cape. Her beauty, natural talent, and presence fed directly into their rendition of “My Boo,” and Usher did what he always does, perform intimately.
However, for Tank, thinking on behalf of the typical man who doesn’t have to worry about Usher performing with their wife in front of millions of people, Mr. Raymond was too close for comfort. Other viewers kept the topic hot on social media with quips like, “who was held tighter during the Super Bowl: Nick Bosa or Alicia Keys,” prompting Beatz to respond.
“Y’all talking about the wrong damn thing !!! y’all don’t see that amazing dress covering the entire stadium,” Beatz wrote on Instagram. “Tonight’s performance was nothing but amazing with 2 amazing Giants ! Congrats @usher and my love @aliciakeys that song is a classic (heart emoji) We don’t do negative vibes on this side we make history (peace finger sign),” he finished before reminding the world to check out his art collection exhibit GIANTS at the Brooklyn Museum.”
Being too close for relationship comfort is on brand for Usher, who had another controversy last year with Keke Palmer during his Las Vegas residency. The viral video moment last August where Usher singled out Palmer showed them slow-dancing while serenading her with his hit, “There Goes My Baby.”
Palmer’s boyfriend, Darius Jackson, fed into the side-eye energy at the time, criticizing her sheer dress and black bodysuit on Twitter, saying “It’s the outfit thoâŚyou a mom.” He immediately caught an “L” in the court of Black Twitter opinion for his take but doubled down with: “We live in a generation where a man of the family doesn’t want the wife & mother to his kids to showcase booty cheeks to please others & he gets told how much of a hater he is.”
Swizz Beatz took the path of pacificism, having seen what can happen to a man critical of Usher’s performance chemistry with their romantic partner. Luckily for others like Tank, his Las Vegas residency is complete but he left an explanation for those who need help understanding the Usher performative methodology.
“Every night I’m thinking about how the world now is going to react to this moment that I’ll have with whoever I’m choosing to sing to,” he said to âEntertainment Tonightâ back in August 2023. “But it was a pop moment, and it was fun to have at least conversation going and we just keep it light. I don’t see anything negative happening in Las Vegas.”
So relax and take that to the Tank â I mean, bank.
When the clock struck zero at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, the Kansas City Chiefs’ 25-22 overtime win over the San Francisco 49ers found them hoisting a third Lombardi Trophy in five seasons.
Two of those three Super Sunday triumphs have come at the expense of the Niners and their head coach Kyle Shanahan, whoâs now been on the losing end of three Super Bowls, two as a head coach and one as the offensive coordinator of the Atlanta Falcons.
In many ways Shanahan has now become this eraâs Marv Levy, the former Buffalo Bills head coach who from 1990-93 led the Bills to four consecutive Super Bowls, only to lose all four. While Shanahan hasnât been there as frequently, his multiple losses have been just as painful, leading by at least 10 points in every instance, only to come up short by nightâs end.Â
His most notorious choke job came as an offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI. The Falcons lead the Patriots 28-3 in third quarter and kept passing the ball, instead of eating the clock. Atlanta averaged 5.8 yards per rush during the game, but they barely ran the ball. Before you know it, Shanahan became a footnote in one of Brady’s signature career moments, the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history.
With the way heâs losing Super Bowls, Shanahan is beginning to earn the reputation as a choke artist in the big moment.
Whatâs wild is Chiefs head coach Andy Reid held that distinction until he broke through with the 2019 Super Bowl 54 win over the Niners. Itâs also something that the aforementioned Levy will never live down as he was never able to get that elusive Super Sunday win during his amazing run in western New York.
There have been a ton of factors in all three losses for Shanahan, but the biggest has been his unwillingness to stick with the running game (where heâs made his name) while protecting double-digit leads. In each loss he inexplicably tried to win playing cute, and each time it came back to haunt him. Which is odd when you consider his dad, Mike Shanahan, a two-time Super Bowl winner with the Denver Broncos, ran Hall of Famer Terrell Davis at will in both wins.
For Levy, it was the fact that his Bills just werenât physical enough to deal with the three NFC East opponents they faced in their four Super Bowl appearances losing to the Giants and Redskins once, and Cowboys twice.
As he took the podium in the Super Bowl media room following the gut-wrenching loss, Shanahan made sure to focus on how his players felt. The seven-year Niners head coach, whoâs now 0-2 in Super Bowls as a head coach and 2-2 in NFC Championship Games, talked about all the hard work and sacrifices it takes to get to this point only to come up short.
âI hurt most for the players. Our guys â I hurt for them the most,” Shanahan said after the stunning Super Bowl 58 loss.
Unfortunately thatâs become a recurring theme for Shanahan and the Niners, whoâve not hoisted a Lombardi Trophy since 1994, losing its last three Super Bowl appearances (2012, 2019 and 2024).
If there is a silver lining in the midst of heartache, itâs that this team has a great chance to be in the same position next season. In fact, DraftKings Sportsbook list them as the favorites at (+550).
But for now thatâs a moot point, as in most Niners playersâ eyes losing Sunday means it was a lost season. The loss also kept Shanahan from joining his aforementioned father Mike in becoming the only father-son duo to ever lead teams to a Super Bowl victory. The father and son combo are both known for their coaching prowess, but Kyle’s legacy of losing in the big game is much different than his dad’s.
After news circulated of Shannon Sharpe’s challenge to comedian Michael Epps and the former NFL player’s aggressive posture during a podcast on a few subjects, Epps responded via social media and seemed confused, asking Sharpe, “why you wanna fight me?”
Shannon Sharpeâs âClub Shay Shayâ podcast has exploded into a go-to event for mudslinging, snitching, dime-dropping and unfiltered conversation.
He broke the internet with his Katt Williams interview and started a Battle Royal of beef between various A-list Black comedians. He followed that up with the direct and loquacious MoâNique, who was dropping bombs all over, sparing no man, woman or child.
Comedian D.L. Hughley didnât like the interview and her darts thrown at him and made a video eviscerating MoâNique and her character. The veteran radio host also came at her family and called her a liar, among other derogatory names.
Seeing the promotion that his podcast is getting these comedians and artists, comedian Mike Epps wanted to get involved in the media circus. Guess he was feeling left out. In fact, Mike Epps mentioned that he was upset that Katt didnât give him his flowers enough on âClub Shay Shay.â
So first Mike Epps decided to take some shots at Katt Williamsâ podcast appearance and rip on his clothes.
Then a few days ago, Epps spoke on Shannon Sharpe, seemingly implying that the Pro Football Hall of Famer, ESPN âFirst Takeâ and podcast host was gay.
Now, Sharpe has fired back at Epps, calling him out during an episode of âNightcapâ with Chad âOchocincoâ Johnson. Sharpe called him out for misrepresenting his sexuality and lying about being called to appear on the show.
âMention my name again..and Iâm gonna put up the DMs. See I donât like doing this, but youâre lying,â Sharpe said, with Ochocinco hyping it up to bring some humor to Sharpeâs serious and threatening tone.
Epps claimed that he was contacted for an interview but declined because he didn’t want Sharpe “looking across at my balls.”
Epps further suggested that “Club Shay Shay,” might be an attempt to subtly convey his alleged secret homosexuality.
âI donât care about all that other stuff,â Sharpe insisted. âYou can say Iâm gay. … I wonât chase a lie. But I wonât let you lie on my name. Now you can say all that other stuff. I can deal with that. Look, I heard that a thousand times. Just like everybody jumping in the chat talking about, âOh he doesn’t like nothing but white women. I have dated a lot of different women.â
Various rumors about Sharpe’s sexuality have circulated increasingly since his podcast got going in the past year. These rumblings began after fans started scrutinizing Sharpeâs association with his stylist, an openly gay man known as “Hollywood.”
Sharpe has not publicly addressed these speculations, until now.
Sharpe didnât mention Epps by name, but the fans in the chat did, so it was no doubt who Sharpeâs wrath was directed at.
âIm telling you this..I’ve been seeing it in the chat, y’all know what Im talking about,â Sharpe continued. âSay my name again and Iâm going to release the Dms. Cause ya lying. You said I reached out to you to come on club Shay Shay and you a MOFO liar. I’m gonna see you and I’m gonna see if you about that. I’m gonna see if you wanna say what ya been saying trying to get some joke. Ya got mad because Katt Williams did what he did.”
“I’m gonna see him talking all that in them tight as leather pantsâŚtrying to be funny. Be like Destinyâs Child and say my name. I got something for your ass,” he warned.
Ochochico continued to act as if he was oblivious to who Sharpe was talking about, adding a comedy element to soften everything.
At the end of the day, Sharpe was most angry that Epps lied about their interaction. He let it be known that when they see each other they have to have a conversation. That kind of energy and constant drama is what makes Shannon Sharpeâs podcast a hit and a never-ending story line in Back culture drama.
Tragedy strikes the track and field world as 24-year-old Kelvin Kiptum, a marathon world record-holder, died in a car accident in his native Kenya on Sunday, reports have confirmed. In an unfortunate twist of events, Kiptum’s coach, Gervais Hakizimana, also reportedly died in the crash.
A third person involved was rushed to a hospital, per The Standard newspaper in Kenya:
âThis was a self-involved accident where one Kelvin Kiptum, the world marathon record holder, was driving his vehicle with two passengers. Kiptum and Hakizimana died on the spot and the third person was rushed to Racecourse Hospital in Eldoret,â Elgeyo Marakwet Police Commander Peter Mulinge told The Nation.
Kiptum stormed the marathon scene 13 months ago with a time of 2:01:53 in his debut at the 2022 Valencia Marathon. He kept improving his scores with every competition and took the world record with 2:00:35 last October at the 2024 Chicago Marathon.
In his short time as one of the elite marathon runners in the sport, Kiptum ran all three of the major marathons and his times rank among the seven fastest of all time. So every single opportunity Kiptum got to run, he was a threat to do it better than anyone in history, as the only man to break the 2:02 mark three times.
Kiptum was working hard to become the first man to break the two-hour mark at the Rotterdam Marathon in April. He was a heavy favorite to bring home Olympic gold this summer in Paris.
What an incredible story it would have been. Kimptum, born and raised in the Chepsamo village in Chepkorio and grew up laboring on his family’s cattle farm, rises to the top of his profession.
As one of the rising faces of the sport, tributes poured in for his and Hakizimana’s family as news of their deaths circulated through the social media mosh pit.
Fans took to social media to give their condolences to the family and to express their own grief at having lost a star so young.
After twice clocking two hours and one minute for the minute, in 2022 and 2023, Kiptum shattered Kenyan icon Eliud Kipchoge’s world record of 2:01:09.
Itâs always devastating when we lose a shining star so young. The roads in Kenya are statistically not the safest.
Every year between 3,000 and 13, 000 lose their lives in road traffic accidents in Kenya. Most are vulnerable road users-pedestrians, motorcyclists and cyclists. One third of deaths are among passengers, many of whom are killed in unsafe forms of public transportation.
This tragic accident comes a little more than a month after three people tragically lost their lives while several others sustained injuries in a series of road accidents that occurred across Kenya on Jan. 8.
Incidents that highlighted the urgent need for improved road safety measures and stricter enforcement of traffic regulations.
From 2021 to mid-2022, about 2,000 people reportedly died on Kenyan roads. Overall, those figures represented a 9 percent increase from the previous yearâs 1,754 fatalities.
Kiptum, who is survived by a wife and two children, began his competitive running career around the age of 13, placing 10th at the Eldoret Half Marathon and grinding until he won the race in 2018 at the age of 18. His premature death impacts the marathon culture in the same way that Chadwick Bosemanâs death shocked the movie industry. Kiptum wonât easily be forgotten.
Patrick Mahomes Sr. has had his share of problems the last few years, battling the demons of alcohol. According to Addiction Statistics, about 20 percent of American adults (about 28 million people) have an alcohol use disorder; only about 7 percent of those people ever get treatment.
While battling those issues, heâs also experienced tremendous joy watching his son Patrick Mahomes Jr. rise to legendary status in the NFL after just six seasons as starting quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Mahomes is trying to win his third Super Bowl today, and his father, who was released on a $10,000 bond in relation to his third offense driving while intoxicated arrest in Tyler, Texas, on Saturday, Feb. 3, will probably be somewhere in the building.
He lives for these moments, as he told the Shadow League in an exclusive interview in 2020, after Patrick Jr. took the NFL world by storm, becoming the second-youngest QB to win a Super Bowl behind Ben Roethlisberger and just the third Black QB to do it, joining Doug Williams and Russell Wilson.
âThe Super Bowl win brings us great pleasure,” Mahomes Sr. told The Shadow League. âKnowing all of the hard work is paying off and hopefully, there’s more great things to come. As a dad, I feel grateful that all the things I thought I saw were real. Just very proud of the man he has become and the way he carries himself.â
Over the years, we have kept in contact with Pat Sr. and his endeavors.
Everybody makes mistakes, but in no way do Mahomes Sr.âs current trials and tribulations reflect his impact, influence and obviously consistent work as a father.
Mahomes, 53, who could face between two and 10 years in prison in relation to the third DUI offense, saw greatness in his oldest son, the same potential that Mahomes Sr.âs dad saw in him as the family bond was built through baseball.
âA love of baseball was passed down through generations,â Mahomes Sr. said. âI learned the game from my father who played semi-pro baseball. He started me playing when I was 4 years old and I always excelled at it. That was the game that I was most comfortable with. I actually signed a scholarship to play basketball at Arkansas, but once I got drafted I decided to go to the Twins and went from there.â
Pat was an MLB journeyman from 1992 to 2003, playing for several squads, including the Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs, and Pittsburgh Pirates. He also pitched in Japan for two seasons in Nippon Professional Baseball in 1997 and 1998 for the Yokohama BayStars.
âI kind of bumped into baseball.” Mahomes Sr. told TSL. “I was supposed to get drafted as an outfielder out of Lindale High School in Texas, where I played varsity baseball, basketball, and football. The MLB scouts would come and watch me play. One day, one of the pitchers on the team got hurt and the coach brought me in to pitch. I was throwing 91-92 miles per hour at the time and I pitched well.â
âOnce they saw that I had a live arm, the scouts would come to the game and have me pitch a bullpen session on the side, but they were still more interested in me being a hitter. The Minnesota Twins â who I never spoke to during the draft process â selected me in the sixth round of the 1988 MLB draft as a pitcher. Once I signed to play pro ball I was determined to give pitching everything I had.â
Pat Sr. compiled a winning 42-39 record with 450 Kâs in his MLB career. The 1999 season is what he describes as his “best and my most memorable one,â going 8-0, undefeated for the season on a New York Mets team that should have won the World Series but ended up losing in the NLCS.
âIt’s probably the best team I’ve ever been on,â Mahomes Sr. said.
Before his son started winning Super Bowls, Pat Sr. says his best pro sports moment was going to the World Series in 2000 and playing in a Subway Series against the Yankees.
âI developed many relationships and was able to live out a dream and lay the foundation for my son Patrick’s success. Everyone needs a good mentor.â
Patrick Sr. had one of the best mentors MLB could offer.
âProbably the most influential person that I met in my career was Hall of Famer Kirby Puckett, when I first went to the Twins. He was the guy who really taught me about work ethic and how to be a professional, traits that I passed along to my son.â
âI started taking Patrick to the ball field when he was 4 years old and dressing him out and letting him shag balls and be around the guys in the clubhouse,” Mahomes Sr. recalls. âHe was a sponge. He just picked up on all the little things they did and how hard they worked.â
âHe was able to be with A-Rod and meet Derek Jeter and be around guys of that nature who were on top of the game and he saw how hard they worked, and it was just something that always stuck with him,â he continued. âBeing around those guys helped him when he decided to make football a career.â
âHe puts in the hours of work off the field; he’s what they call a gym rat. Always studying film and trying to figure out ways to get better, and that transfers well to the NFL because you have so much studying and preparation you have to do each week before each game,â the proud father added.
Combining a disciplined intellectual approach to the game with his freakish athletic skills is the key to Patrick’s seamless transition to the NFL game and why the former Texas Tech star won a Super Bowl in his second season as a starter.
Pat Sr. says his son was always smart.
“He was a 4.0 student in college, he was gonna graduate by the end of his junior year. He’s always been studious. He has a photographic memory, so things always come easy for him,â Mahomes extolled. âHis recall is second to none. I also feel that the idea of him playing multiple sports when he was younger really helped. If you watch him play, his baseball background has a lot to do with how he throws passes.”
Football provided Mahomes the athletic platform to become a superstar, but it was baseball that sparked Patrick’s love of sports, his competitive edge and continues to provide him with advantages on the football field.
“He throws passes sidearm and no-look and that’s all stuff he learned from playing shortstop in baseball. So he’s taken a little bit of that and added it to other parts of his football game and it’s not something that a lot of people have seen before. It’s going well right now, but the objective is to keep learning and keep doing great things out on the football field,” the quarterbackâs father said.
Other than the principles he instilled, Mahomes Sr. says Alex Rodriguez was a huge influence on Patrick and a guy who really spent a lot of time with him. Another big influence was former MLB pitcher Latroy Hawkins, who’s also Mahomes’ godfather. He really taught him a lot of stuff, showed him how to be professional.
“The first time he was out on the baseball field you could tell he was the best player out there even though he was the youngest player out there,” Mahomes Sr. recalls about his son’s early years. “He was catching balls off big-league bats, shagging balls in the outfield when he was 5 years old. He was a little more advanced than the other kids.”
Everybody thought Mahomes Jr. was going to play baseball and get drafted in the first round as an outfielder. In addition to his batting skills, his dad says, he threw 95 miles per hour off the mound. But his junior year, he got a chance to play quarterback for Whitehouse High School in Texas, âwhere Patrick was a three-sport athlete, just like me,â Pops said. âYou know how contagious and crazy Texas football is.â
Mahomes Jr. had 4,619 passing yards, 50 passing touchdowns, about 1,000 yards rushing and 15 touchdowns as a senior and his baseball career was pretty much over.
âHe was at a point,â Mahome Sr. said, âwhere I think he felt like he had learned everything he could about baseball and football, offered him some new learning things, really intrigued him and he fell in love with it.â
So the story of the Mahomes family is still being written. Just as Patrick Jr. has transcended the game and has set a new standard for Black quarterbacks, his dad wasn’t quite the superstar but his presence was important for a league that didnât even have 10 Black starting pitchers when he played.
This lack of representation is a major reason why Pat Mahomes Sr. shares his big league experience with MLB’s diversity initiatives. The past few summers, he was an instructor at MLB’s Hank Aaron Invitational camp in Vero Beach, Florida, dropping the same knowledge he shared with Patrick long ago, with talented players of color ages 12-18, many from underserved areas.
âI think we’re making great strides with developing pitchers and players of color. One of the most important things to me is giving back, and being a pro pitcher, I know how hard it is to get to that point,â he explained.
As far as the pitching situation, most guys of color are very athletic, and they see that and the speed and all the different skills we have, and they want to transfer us to other positions. So a lot of guys that are playing center field, left field, and shortstop could be pitchers, but they feel like they can get more out of them as position players,â he detailed.
As media focuses on Mahomes Srâs latest mishaps, the advice and guidance Patrick Sr. has offered his son is undeniably valuable:
âI always tell [Patrick Jr.] before every game how proud I am of him and remind him of what my dad Johnny Mahomes used to tell me: âYou’ll always be successful if you perform to the limits of your ability.ââ
That’s something Mahomes Jr. must do in Super Bowl 58 against a strong San Francisco 49ers squad. Itâs hard to bet against the quarterback, and I wouldnât bet against his dad in this game of life.
With the highly anticipated Super Bowl rematch between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers slated to take place Sunday in Las Vegas, aka Sin City, the celebrity picks have been coming in.
For most, the sentiment has been to go with the Chiefs who have a track record of Super Bowl success led by superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes, whoâs looking to win his third Lombardi Trophy at the age of 28.Â
Not only that, but the Chiefs have been on a roll, eliminating two home favorites in the Buffalo Bills and the heavily-favored Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game.
Donât tell that to Basketball Hall of Famer Charles Barkley, whoâs all in on the Niners bandwagon.
Despite losing money betting against K.C. twice this postseason, Barkley is once again betting against the defending Super Bowl champions.
During a recent interview with âInside the NFL,â the NBA All-Time Top 75 Player and analyst says heâs riding with the Niners in the big one, and he even called Niners All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner his âfavorite player.â
âIâm rooting for Trent Williams,â Barkley said. âIâm the guy whoâs on the list of great players who never won a championship. So, Trent Williams has been probably one of the best offensive linemen in this league forever, so I really would love to see him get his championship.â
You can see why Barkley is rooting for the Niners. Having never been able to hoist a Larry OâBrien Trophy during his NBA career, he knows firsthand how that feels and wouldnât wish it on any other great player.
While his prediction isnât farfetched, itâs going to take a pretty Herculean effort by the Niners to knock off this battle-tested Chiefs team, who thanks to Taylor Swift’s PR machine, have the world of sports, music and entertainment riding with them.
When looking at both rosters, you can see why Barkley believes the Niners are going to win.
1. The Niners are the more talented team with a comparable defense.
2. San Francisco’s offense is better than the Chiefs, with five players on that side of the football being named All-Pros, including four on the first team.
3. Quarterback Brock Purdy has looked the part since taking over last season. He’s withstood the highs and lows of playing quarterback in the NFL level and handled all of the pressure and criticism that has come his way.
In fact, the 2022 seventh-round pick, formerly known as Mr. Irrelevant (last pick in the draft), is 21-5 in games started, and 4-1 in the postseason.
All Purdy seems to do is find a way to win and that will help Charles Barkley who still doesn’t believe in the Super Bowl run this KC team is on.
They say family can be your worst enemy and two-sport icon Bo Jackson is experiencing that horrible truth firsthand. Jackson was awarded $21 million in a civil case against his niece and nephew who he says were extorting and stalking him.
The lawsuit, filed in April in suburban Atlanta, alleged that Thomas Lee Anderson and his sister, Erica M. Anderson Ross, tried to extort $20 million from the former Heisman Trophy winner using blackmail, harassment and other tactics of intimidation.
Cobb County Judge Jason Marbutt found for Jackson in a default judgment after the siblings failed to appear in court on Jan. 31 to contest a temporary protective order the judge had issued last May. Because they failed to rebut Jacksonâs allegations in court, Marbutt ruled they had accepted the claims as true.
Jackson claimed the harassment started in 2022 via threatening social media posts and messages. They took it a step further with false public allegations that threatened to damage Jacksonâs reputation and public disclosure of private information intended to destroy his mental stability.
At one point, the assailants threatened to disrupt a charity event that Jackson hosted near Auburn University, where he is a legend and recognized as one of the best running backs in college football history. According to the lawsuit, Jackson feared for his safety and for that of his family.
âDefendants have acted with malice, wantonness, oppression, with a conscious effort of indifference to circumstances and with the specific intent to cause Plaintiff harm,â Marbutt wrote in his ruling.
According to the lawsuit filed by Jackson through his Marietta, Georgia, attorneys in April, the Andersons â one of whom lives in Cobb County and the other in Texas â attempted to extort $20 million from Jackson in exchange for not publicly disclosing information that would cast him âin a false lightâ and cause âsevere emotional distress.â
The Andersons wanted a huge bag as a payoff to end their aggressive conduct.
Their gamble obviously didnât pay off. Jackson went to the courts and in addition to the cash settlement, his niece and nephew were also ordered to stay at least 500 yards away from the only man to play in an NFL Pro Bowl and MLB All-Star Game. Conditions state that they are not allowed to contact Jackson or any of his immediate family members.
Jackson was the first overall pick in the 1986 NFL draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but he opted to play baseball and sign with the Kansas City Royals and became the modern era’s first two-sport legend.Â
When legendary Los Angeles Raiders owner Al Davis agreed to allow Jackson to do both, he became an overnight sensation in L.A. and one of the most captivating brands that the sports world has ever seen.Â
Jackson was as fast as the wind on the football field, but also, physical and tough as nails. He was one of one. On the baseball field Jackson was a five-tool athlete, capable of hitting the ball 500 feet, scaling walls to make improbable catches and defying the laws of gravity on the basepaths.Â
His NFL career ended after he dislocated a hip during the playoffs of the 1990 season but continued to play in MLB until 1994.
Bo Jackson is reportedly worth $25 million. During his brief pro football and baseball careers, Bo made roughly $13 million. He was compensated handsomely and credited along with pitchman Michael Jordan as the game-changing personalities in the â80s and â90s that sparked Nikeâs early shoe takeover.
According to Ad Age, within a year of Bo’s campaign’s launch, Nike had swallowed up 80 percent of the global cross trainer market and was generating $400 million per year in revenue.
He reportedly still gets at least $1 million a year from Nike and also runs a variety of successful businesses and continues to endorse products because of his sterling reputation.Â
At the age of 61 Bo still makes appearances each year at various events in his home state, from football games at Auburn to the Regionâs Tradition golf tournament in Birmingham each year and his annual âBo Bikes Bamaâ charity cycling event in Alabama.
This is not the first time Jackson has sued to defend his reputation against false or misleading information. In 2005, the Alabama native sued the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin of California for defamation after the newspaperâs sports editor quoted a dietary specialist saying that the hip injury that ended Jacksonâs career in a 1991 NFL playoff game was the result of anabolic steroid use. The paper later retracted its story and issued a public apology to Jackson.
“Unfortunately for those attempting to extort $20 million dollars from Jackson and his family, Bo still hits back hard,” Jacksonâs attorneys â Robert Ingram and David Conley â said Monday in a news release about the case.
You never know what someone is going through, and since retiring from the NFL in 2022, former NFL wide receiver Desean Jackson is seeking full custody of his two sons he shares with ex-girlfriend Kayla Phillips.
According to online sources, Jackson is claiming the boys have only seen their mother âtwiceâ last year after allegedly getting engulfed in a religious cult called the âMost Highâ and is being influenced by the new man sheâs dating.Â
According to documents obtained by various outlets, â[Phillips] appears erratic on Facebook video posts,â which claim she states, âthe members of The Most High are WOKE and everybody else is not.â
The couple shared housing for three years in Florida with kids DeSean Jackson, 8, and Jace Jackson, 5.
Documents filed on Wednesday in Los Angeles claim Jackson moved back to California after he and Phillipsâ relationship went south in 2020 shortly after Jackson proposed to the former IG model at Top Golf.
After meeting through social media, Jackson and Phillips announced they were expecting less than a year later and welcomed Desean Jackson Jr. into the family in late 2015. Jace arrived in 2018.
The honeymoon didn’t last too long, as Jackson soon moved on to a new girlfriend, Cydney Christine. She, of course, went public with things, posting a pic of her new boo on IG.
Maybe that drove Phillips over the edge, as she looked so happy and altogether relieved when Jackson finally proposed.
Years later and possibly scorned, Phillips seems to be focusing on her peace of mind and mental and spiritual health. She’s living her best life and raising two boys is clearly an impediment to whatever she has going on with her religious cult. Jackson, whose story of triumph â going from L.A. Crip to well-adjusted NFL star â is the stuff of legends, made tremendous growth in every aspect of life as his NFL journey unfolded.
According to reports, Jackson says he went to Florida to bring the boys back to California for a visit last February, âbut when it was time for the visit to end, I called Phillips to make arrangements for the childrenâs return and (she) gave me a later date to return the childrenâÂ
Jackson claims she pushed back several dates for the kids to return, which isnât unusual. He is the father and sometimes parents need to handle their own lives and can use a significant time away from handling the day-to-day chores of childcare.
Phillips basically abandoned her parental obligations, because she never gave that date for the kids to return, forcing Jackson to enroll the children in âschool here in Los Angeles and the children have been living with me since,â he shared.
According to Jacksonâs time frame, itâs been almost an entire year since the boys have seen their mother and it appears the communication between Phillips and Jackson has become non-existent.
She “appears to be brainwashed by the doctrine of ‘The Most High’,” Jackson says, per the documents, adding that she is “living a carefree life that does not include the children.”
Jackson is not trying to erase the mother from the boysâ life.
Should Phillips ever show any interest in visiting with their children and once she responds to the legal action, Jackson is asking for supervised visitation and sole custody, “because I provide the children with a stable, loving, and structured home and environment,â Jackson states.
Adding, “We don’t know what [Phillips] is capable of since she joined ‘The Most High’ cult which is why we have filed the request For Child Abduction Prevention Orders,” the docs state.
What stands out on Phillips’ IG account, which shows a most recent post dated Jan. 24 (which indicates that Phillips is alive and well) is the fact that she doesn’t have any pictures of her sons with Jackson on her account until you scroll down quite a bit.
It’s clear sheâs into healthy eating and wears a headwrap daily. She appears happy, and often refers to âThe Most High”. Nothing a person with no inside information pertaining to the dynamics of their parental relationship would find strange. But according to Jackson, something isn’t kosher.
Jackson has just settled into retirement after establishing himself as one of the fastest and most exciting players in NFL history after 15 seasons with six teams, most notably the Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington franchise.
The diminutive dynamo had 641 catches for 11,263 yards and scored 66 touchdowns. He was selected to play in three Pro Bowls. Jackson did his major damage as a return specialist.Â
His generational speed, athleticism and knack for the game-breaking play is what he will be forever remembered for. Heâs a solid guy all-around.Â
Hopefully this situation gets handled before the boys get any older. A year with their dad is not the worst thing in the world, especially one with a net worth of $50 million dollars, but the love of a mom is always needed, and they all have to be concerned for her safety.
MVS has joined the legion of current players making blanket statements during GOAT conversations, while totally ignoring the fact that they might have missed the 50 years of football that preceded their NFL existence.Â
The Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver spoke to the media during Super Bowl week and the 29-year-old, in his second season in Kansas City, claims that the two quarterbacks heâs been fortunate enough to play with, Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes, are the two GOATs at the position.Â
âIâve played with the two best quarterbacks to ever play this game, especially when it comes to arm talent,” Valdes-Scantling told reporters. Obviously, Brady has all the statistics, but I think Patâs getting pretty close to breaking some of those,â
On March 24, 2022, Kansas City Chiefs WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling signed a three-year, $30 million contract with the Kansas City Chiefs.
This season was a disaster in terms of regular season production for MVS and entering the final year of his deal, he could be looking at the front door soon. What better way to endear yourself to two quarterbacks who will be looking for receiving help next season, than to label them GOATs?
We can debate GOAT quarterbacks all day and most of it will be opinion, but itâs a universally accepted fact that you canât have such a conversation without including one Thomas Edward Patrick Brady Jr.
MVS, who made a legacy-defining catch while falling on his back in the AFC Championship game against the Baltimore Ravens, made sure to add Bradyâs name into the mix and show respect for his statistical rĂŠsumĂŠ.
Pure arm talent is where MVS gives Rodgers and Mahomes the edge.
âBut when it comes to arm talent, between Aaron and Pat, theyâre equal, so having those two guys being my quarterbacks for my career has been nothing but life-changing. Iâm grateful for both those guys, Iâve got great friendships with both those guys. I hope I can finish my career with Pat.â
He was one of the wide receivers who came under siege for underachieving as Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City struggled to score points early in the season.
MVS didnât support his opinion with any accurate statistical data or anything specific that can support his case that Rodgers and Mahomes are the best to ever do it.
Arm talent is relative. Thatâs having a strong arm, being accurate and being able to make all the throws and put receivers in a position to make a play.
There have been quarterbacks with arms just as strong or stronger than both Rodgers and Mahomes, who are among the savviest signal-callers to ever play in addition to their passing ability.
Not to turn this into a water cooler brawl, but Dan Marino, John Elway and Michael Vick had cannons. Both Marino and Elway could make any throw.
Mahomes and Rogers are both up there, but Brady made the big throws when it mattered. There wasnât a throw he couldnât make either and he did it with precision into his mid 40s. Brady put in 23 seasons of consistent work. We probably should put him in the Martian category along with icons like Hank Aaron and LeBron James, ageless wonders who played for decades at an elite level.
MVS opened up a can of worms thatâs sure to irritate some football purists. Super Bowl victories matter and playoff performance is something that separates the GOATS from the guys with the glossy stats. Rodgersâ lack of playoff success and failure to win multiple titles eliminates him from GOAT contention in the eyes of many football fans â and clearly in the playoffs against the best defenses, his âarm talentâ failed him a few times.
Mahomes is just entering that conversation as a sixth-year starter. Can he stay as viable as an elite quarterback for as long as Tom Terrific did?
Mahomes has 28,424 regular season passing yards. Brady has 89,214 career passing yards. If you include his playoff games, that number inflates to 102,614.
Mahomes has a way to go still, even at his scorching statistical pace.
So itâs not as cut-and-dried as MVS tried to make it sound. Instead of politicking for brownie points from two legends he was fortunate enough to be on the field with, the 29-year-old must realize his career is at a crossroads. Six years in and never had 700 yards receiving in a season. The anemic output he produced this season has definitely hurt his market value, and after six seasons in the league and flashes of brilliance and then brain lapses, we donât even know who he really is.
We do know he’s not leaving his employment for next season in the hands of his Super Bowl fate. So, showing love to two quarterbacks who will be looking for more receivers next season is all in the playbook.
Since the end of his first season as head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes, Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders has been doing everything he can to ensure his Buffaloes donât finish 4-8 again.
After a surprising 3-0 start to the 2023 season, the kinks in the armor began to show, and the Buffs lost eight of their last nine games to finish the season. The two biggest areas of concern were along the offensive and defensive lines.
Sanders attacked the transfer portal heavy in both areas, bringing in starters across both lines. His biggest grab was five-star Jordan Seaton of IMG Academy the top-ranked offensive tackle in the 2024 class. Seatonâs ballyhooed arrival is further proof that Coach Prime was once again in his recruiting bag.
After overhauling the Colorado roster upon his arrival in December 2022, Sanders once again went out and a made a splash in an attempt to upgrade his roster. In all, the Hall of Famer added 31 new faces to his 2024 roster. They include seven high school signees and 24 transfers, which in todayâs era of transfer portal and NIL, is in many ways the norm. Also, the quickest way to improve.
Colorado’s incoming haul of 24 transfers ranks No. 5 nationally.
Speaking at radio row for Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas, Sanders joined the ESPN âFirst Takeâ set to talk about Sundayâs big game while also crediting Niners quarterback Brock Purdy.
âEverybody in America has a title, whether you agree with it or not. They give us a title. This kid is the best story thatâs probably been in the Super Bowl in over two decades, coming from the last player taken in the NFL draft to the Super Bowl, and leading his team to the Super Bowl because of his play. I love this kid, man. Shoot, Iâm looking for a Brock Purdy to come play at Colorado.â
Realizing he shouldnât be talking recruiting now that signing day has passed, Sanders quickly changed his tune with this statement.
âIâm sorry, I canât recruit at this moment. Iâm sorry, this is a dead period.â
Smart move considering how fast the NCAA loves to levy sanctions for any misstep.
Sanders also confirmed his commitment to Colorado’s program. On the Dan Patrick Show on Thursday, Feb. 8, Sanders says he doesn’t fear other coaches recruiting against him negatively. The manner in which Deion Sanders left Jackson State is still a point of contention for many HBCU football fans.
The bigger Deion gets in the coaching realm, the bigger the threat of him leaving for a more prestigious job and a bigger bag. It’s always lingering, and other coaches use that against him when recruiting.
Deion said: “They tell kids well, he’s not going to be there, he’s going to leave’…I don’t go inherit legacies, I build on them.”
Not only did Sanders overhaul his roster, but he also replaced both coordinators from 2023. Following the season, both Sean Lewis on offense and Charles Kelly of defense left Boulder.
Sanders promoted longtime NFL coach Pat Shurmur to offensive coordinator in January, and after a long search heâs settled on his defensive playcaller in former Cincinnati Bengals defensive backs coach Rob Livingston.
Sanders has been adamant that he wouldnât move too hastily in finding Kellyâs replacement, but per reports it will be Livingston’s task to improve one of the worst units in all of college football.
The slow grind continues in Colorado. Deion has put together another recruiting class that he hopes will be able to compete in a new conference.
The good news is that college football’s national signing day passed Wednesday without a single Big 12 recruiting class finishing among the top 20 in the 247Sports Team Rankings. It marks the first time in the 247Sports era that the league failed to produce a top-20 class. So, the conference as a whole isn’t that strong.
Unfortunately, of the four new teams entering the Big 12 in 2024 (Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado and Utah), Sanders’ haul of freshmen ranks last among conference newcomers and No. 118 in the country.
Megan Thee Stallion will be the first to tell you that “Black History Month been good to me.”
Since finally completing her obligations to former manager Carl Crawford and record label  1501 Certified Entertainment last fall and joining Roc Nation Management, the superstar rapper has made every next move her best move.Â
From allegedly getting shot in the foot by rapper and lover Tory Lanez â a crime he’s currently imprisoned for â to the incredible amount of media attention that controversial incident brought her from fans and people who she would consider roadblocks on her way to superstardom.
She manages to flip every potentially damaging incident into a win. Very Jay-Z-like. Her recent battle with Nicki Minaj includes millions of downloads, streams and dirt throwing, that gets the social media mosh pit going and results in more dollars in Meganâs pocket. More promotion for her album. More love from the Cardi B fans who refuse to root for Nicki Minaj. Meg’s brand hasnât suffered one bit, no matter how she handles her beef or her street life.Â
Her twerk game is still official, her musical delivery continues to elevate, and sheâs protected by the unbreakable Roc Nation umbrella. The 28-year-old’s career is about to take off to even greater heights with several brand alignments she has in the fold.
In addition to reaching her highest ambitions in the music game, Meg continues to expand and partner with iconic brands of industry. They say you havenât made it in sports or entertainment until you collab with Nike.
Well, according to reports, Meg has been chiseling her body in the gym and bringing fans and followers along via Instagram.
Now fans can copy Meganâs dance routines and coordinate with her outfits, as the Grammy winner recently teased an upcoming collaboration with Nike in a new workout video with a voiceover detailing what’s coming from Megan X Nike.
This is the second time Megan has teased the collab, first hinting at it on New Year’s Eve, when she performed in a purple Nike outfit and sneakers with âHottieâ written on the soles.
âI cannot wait to tell y’all about this,â she says in the video in response to the overwhelming interest she’s received for her workout wear. âIt’s here and you better get ready to load this up in your cart.â
According to Megan, Nike is very open to her fashion ideas, and she presented them with a list of clothing she wanted to create. The ideas for the line are inspired by Meganâs personal experience in the gym.
Nike has collabed with Meg in the past.
âI went to Nike headquarters and said, ‘Nike, we need some sports bras for the big t*tty b*tches. We need some sh*t that’s going to make the long-legged girls look poppin’, we need to turn these ponies into stallions ⌒â she explained. “They said, âMegan, go in the lab and make the Hot Girl System sh*t,â and that’s what we’re doing!”
What Kind Of Athletic Wear Will Megan Create?
During the latest workout video, Meg is wearing a red-and-black tank bodysuit over a sports bra that she promises will be part of the collection when the set reaches stores this month.
Megâs lineup includes bodysuits, shorts, bras, and crop tops that can be worn in the gym or just hanging out with friends on a nice day.
“If you want to look like a stallion for Hot Girl Summer, y’all better go load this sh*t up in your cart,” she said.
The Grammy-winning rapper announced on Feb. 2 that she inked an unprecedented major deal with Warner Music Group.
The Houston native will maintain her status as an independent artist while receiving distribution and marketing services from WMG and also preserving the rights to her master recordings and publishing, which is invaluable for an artist to pull off in their first major deal.Â
âThis is the beginning of an exciting new chapter of my life and career,â the 28-year-old said in a statement released by Rolling Stone. âIâm really focused on building an empire and growing as an entrepreneur, so Iâm proud to take this next step in my journey and work with Max Lousada and the entire Warner Music Group team in this new capacity. I know weâre going to create history together.â
Meganâs entertainment and music brand, Hot Girl Productions, will release several projects in partnership with the music and entertainment giant, which will assist with radio promotion and other marketing services.Â
Hot Girl Productions has already released Meganâs âCobraâ and âHissâ singles, which are breaking records.
A very important aspect of her new deal is that Megan will keep creative control of her image and work. She decides which artists she wants to collaborate with and help build her brand.
Megan showed appreciation for her fans as she enthusiastically announced the news on Instagram.
âThank you GOD đđ˝ Hotties today HISSTORY was made !!!â she wrote to her nearly 32 million followers. âToday I signed a distribution deal with my new family @warnermusic where I maintain my INDEPENDENCE as an artist and OWN MY MASTERS AND PUBLISHING.â
She continued, âThis is thee first deal of its kind !!! I hope artists still on the come up or even artists who are already established never get discouraged by all the obstacles that come with this industry! Even with all the odds against me I fought for MYSELF.â
WMG Recorded Music CEO Max Lousada was all in on Thee Stallion, who went independent in 2023.
âMeg is not just a superstar. Sheâs an artistic force and a mogul in the making â authentic and unapologetic in defining her own unique place in the cultural landscape,â Lousada said in a statement, according to Rolling Stone. âSo many relate to her remarkable story and have witnessed her come into her power on her own terms. At Warner, weâre creating an environment where original talents can explore both their creativity and entrepreneurialism, while building long-term careers.â
Mike Tomlin continues to win, and he continues to get shots thrown at that winning standard by former players and other media types.
The latest former Steelers great to criticize the franchise and the way the culture is being run under Tomlin’s command is James Harrison, who says he’s had enough of Mike Tomlin’s standard.
Harrison’s biggest gripe was Pittsburgh’s lack of Super Bowl appearances in recent years.
Harrison, a 2023 Pro Football Hall of Fame nominee, made five Pro Bowls in his career and was a leading force in the last Super Bowl that the Steelers won 15 years ago under Tomlin and Ben Roethlisberger. The Steelers were at the top of the league back then and they executed a dynamic comeback against the Arizona Cardinals and Kurt Warner to win their sixth Lombardi Trophy.
Since then, the Steelers have become a franchise that consistently wins and goes to the playoffs. In fact, they havenât had a losing season under Tomlin, prior to or after that Super Bowl win.
Most fan bases would be in heaven, but not the Black and Yellow. Despite an unprecedented consistent standard of winning these Steelersâ last playoff victory was in January 2017, and Tomlin has been searching for Big Benâs replacement for years, which has been the main impediment to the Steelers going deep in the playoffs.
What better time to rip your former team than Super Bowl Week?
Harrison joined the growing legion of voices calling for a change at head coach.
Everything unfolded in an interview on âThe Pat McAfee Show.â
McAfee asked James Harrison for his opinion on the transition process currently happening with the Pittsburgh Steelers franchise and what the realistic expectations should be heading into next season.
âThe expectations should never change. I think the expectations have become that we don’t want to have a losing season. Iâm not throwing salt to anybody, but, the Pittsburgh Steelers standard is to win Lombardis. When you go into that building, thereâs six of them sitting there.â
Mike Tomlin is simply the coach; it seems like Harrisonâs problems have to do with the front office and those handling the checkbooks. Without an established quarterback or offensive ingenuity, no NFL team can be a serious contender for a championship. Kenny Pickett, Mason Rudolph and the like have been subpar at best.
To maintain a streak of non-losing seasons as prolific as Tomlin in the AFC, which has been the stronger conference for the last half decade is impressive and should not be taken lightly.
âRight now, weâre not even winning a playoff game,” Harrison griped. “So, I think we need to get back to what the standard of the Pittsburgh Steelers legacy, the lore is. Thatâs just not what it is.â
Easier said than done. When Harrison was on the Steelers for the first 10 years of his NFL career, winning Super Bowls in 2005 and 2007, he had Pro Bowl caliber defenders alongside him and Hall of Famers on offense, including a Hall of Fame quarterback.
So, vague references to tradition and what happened back in the day is off the mark, when clearly the team is limited by the talent it currently puts on the field.
Again, thatâs not Mike Tomlinâs job. If you grade Tomlin on a head coaching scale as far as underachievers vs overachievers, his track record is off the charts.Â
Everybody is in such a rush to change something for the sake of change these days. Other than not winning a Super Bowl — which is a rare occurrence when a franchiseâs ownership, front office, coaching, players and vision for the future all align in one glorious result — what hasnât Tomlin displayed to make anyone think someone else will do a better job?
Will they make Kenny Pickett become Terry Bradshaw? No. Will they all of a sudden make George Pickens as consistent and effective as Hines Ward, Santonio Holmes or Antonio Brown?
Is Troy Aumua Polamalu coming back to lead the secondary?
Criticizers of Mike Tomlin and the Steelers winning tradition are weird. Since when do championships in football determine the overall worth of a coach? Especially a head coach who has won already and led his team there twice (’07 and ’10).
Get a real QB in Pittsburgh, a playmaker with a current style and invest in the overall upgrading of the offensive culture. The defense is always going to rock out. Thatâs Tomlinâs strength anyway and the true reason why the team is always at the very least playoff contenders.
As far as being among the elite teams in the league again, the Steelers have the head coach to do it. Talk to the bigwigs about being serious, accessing those billions and getting a franchise signal-caller.
Tomlin can only make this patchwork nonsense look marketbale for so long.
Until then, donât waste my time complaining about Mike Tomlin. Thatâs low-hanging fruit that players such as Harrison should be ashamed to put into the atmosphere as a card-carrying member of Steelers Nation.
The end of a harrowing nightmare of senseless violence fueled by ego and what some have described as âtoxic masculinityâ has resulted in a plea deal.
The man who in 2022 killed 21-year-old rising star Asia Womack in Dallas after she beat him in a pickup basketball game has been sentenced to 20 years in prison, according to Dallas County court documents.
Cameron Jamaal Hogg, 32, pleaded guilty Tuesday to murdering Womack on Oct. 3, 2022, according to the court documents.
Police say in 2022, Womack embarrassed Hogg in a pickup basketball game at a park in South Dallas, near South Fitzhugh Avenue and the Dos Equis Pavilion. Following the loss, they got into a brief heated exchange.
Apparently, the humiliation of the loss made Hogg shoot Womack, a graduate of James Madison High School, while she was walking home after the game.
Needless to say, Womackâs mother thinks the punishment is a slap on the wrist in comparison to the loss of her daughterâs promising life. Sheâs expected to meet the killer face-to-face for the first time in court later this week, when she makes her victim impact statement.
“I forgive him. But at the same time, I just want him to see the hurt. I just want him to see the hurt thatâs on my face,” she said. “You canât imagine whatâs in my heart. Just to be able to look at him and face him and get some closure.”
“She holds a place in a lot of people’s hearts,” Andrea said of her daughter who was most happy on the basketball court and being a comedian.
According to Asia’s online obituary:
“Asia Janae Womack was born Thursday, February 15, 2001, to the parentage of Andrea and Anthony Womack in Fort Worth, Texas. She attended âthe greatâ James Madison High School in Dallas, Texas where she received her high school diploma in 2019. She then furthered her education and attended Texas A&M Commerce in Commerce, Texas studying Kinesiology.
Asia, affectionally known as âFat Babyâ has a passion for basketball since an early age. Asia was designed like no other. Her gift was expressed through her love for basketball. She had a big heart filled with so much love, joy, and laughter. She had a smile that could brighten your day. Asia was a member of Gospel Tabernacle Church under the pastoral leadership of Bishop David E. Martin. She was an active participant in the Generation Next Ministry and the Youth Providence Ministry.”
Court documents say Asia left the park, unknowing that Hogg was tracking her with murderous intent.
After winning the battle with Hogg on the court, Asia and a friend were sitting outside to watch football a short distance from the park. Hogg drove up and got out and without saying anything shot her in the chest twice. As she stumbled to the ground, he shot her two or three more times, assassination style.
“He took it too far,” Womack’s mom told local news outlets.
The plea deal Hogg took from the Dallas County DA, is reportedly on the very low end of the range for punishment. A 20-year prison term almost ensures that he will be back on the streets in less time.
“Itâs a slap in the face because itâs pretty much saying that Asiaâs life was only worth 20 years. Thatâs basically what they’re saying,” Andrea continued.
The Dallas County DAâs Office told Andrea this outcome was possible, but what infuriates Womackâs mom is the fact that Hogg copped out and claimed self-defense.
“By him admitting that he killed her and not going to court saying that it was self-defense,” she said.
FOX 4 reached out to the Dallas County DA to ask about the sentence but have not gotten a response.
Mike Florio and guests on “Pro Football Talk” on NBC Sports on Sirius XM Channel 84 suggested that Eric Bieniemy’s visit with the Kansas City Chiefs prior to the AFC championship game and during Super Bowl week in Vegas isnât just casual.
Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes were reportedly very excited to have Bieniemy back in the mix, and Reid mentioned that Bieniemy drove to Baltimore and spoke to the Kansas City offense before their convincing AFC championship win over the Ravens. Â
Patrick Mahomes expressed how passionate and respected Bieniemy is and said the team got âchill bumpsâ when EB stepped into the locker room.
Bieniemy hasnât received any head coach offers, and after a season in which he worked wonders at times with mediocre rookie QB Sam Howell, he was released from his duties with Washington, who preferred to hire offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury, who failed with Kyler Murray in Arizona.Â
Word on the street is Kingsbury has a great relationship with USC quarterback Caleb WIlliams, who is expected to be the No. 1 pick in the draft. After getting the pink slip, Kingsbury spent last year as a senior offensive analyst at USC, where he worked closely with the Trojans’ Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback.
Williams, who is from Washington, D.C., is probably hoping reports are true concerning the Commanders trying to move up one spot in the draft to grab their franchise quarterback.
The Chicago Bears hold the top pick but are expected to stick with former No. 1 pick Justin Fields and use this draft to drastically upgrade the offense.
In hindsight, the Commanders probably did Bieniemy a favor by releasing him. He’s now free to rejoin Andy Reid and the Chiefs in some capacity next season while also guaranteed to be engaged in competitive football with the best quarterback in the game. Maybe it takes an offensive innovator like Reid to appreciate what Bieniemy brings to an offense.Â
The weapons were limited, especially at quarterback, but Bieniemyâs presence definitely improved Washingtonâs offensive potential, especially early in the season before the franchise began tanking for Caleb.Â
It was initially suggested that Bieniemy would take over the Washington offense for a few seasons and then assume the head coach position once defensive-minded Ron Rivera departed.
Rivera was cut loose and Washington decided to go in another direction and hire Dan Quinn as the 31st head coach in team history. The former Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator led one of the best units in the league, but in an era where offensive acumen is king, to ignore Bieniemy is another odd occurrence in the struggle for Bieniemy to get one of the NFLâs 32 coveted head coaching jobs.
Florio and his co-hosts think EB is around for a reason. They may be projecting a bit, but it totally makes sense. Kansas City is the only franchise that seems to value Bienemy to the standard of his rĂŠsumĂŠ. He’s basically in no-man’s land right now.
Andy Reid said recently that he’s not thinking about retiring anytime soon. On Wednesday, at a Super Bowl presser he said in reference to the possibility of retiring.
“You’re going to know when it’s time. Today’s not the day.”
That’s why Bieniemy took a lateral move to Washington in the first place. It was a try-out to see if the franchise thought he was head coach material, and Bieniemy got his answer in the form of a pink slip.
That may devalue him with other teams, but not Kansas City. The Chiefs, who are attempting to win its third Super Bowl and first without EB as offensive coordinator, know his value. Veteran playcaller and former Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy has done an adequate job with the offense this season, but there was a clear dropoff from when Bieniemy was assisting Reid in calling the shots from 2018-22.
Reid, who told reporters Bieniemy’s coaching future is “great” despite being fired by the Washington Commanders, also let it be known that Bieniemy is still getting looks from other teams with coaching vacancies.
In addition to adding inspiration to the offense, another reason for Bieniemy’s presence probably has to do with being in the thick of the action, being accessible and visible.
When Bieniemy left for Washington, there were rumbles that his aggressive demeanor didn’t sit well with Patrick Mahomes at times. Mahomes has denied any bad feelings toward him and even credited EB’s presence with being a boost for the team.
Despite Reid’s continued endorsement, Grant Paulsen of 106.7 The Fan said in November that players would not give Bieniemy a “glowing endorsement” if asked by ownership.
“I continue to hear that if this is up to the players, if they are counseled in any way by this ownership group, there will not be glowing endorsements by and large for Eric Bieniemy, from the guys on offense,” Paulsen said. “I’m not sure his style works in today’s NFL as we think it might. I just continue to hear from people in and around the building that the players that are working under Bieniemy aren’t necessarily advocating for or standing on the table for him to become the guy.”
Former NFL running back LeSean “Shady” McCoy said similar things about Bieniemy in the past. Criticism of Bieniemy usually focuses on his personality and not his ability.
âWhatâs his value? What makes him a good offensive coordinator?â McCoy said. âSee, the problem is a lot of these people who go on social media (and say) âOh, he should be the guy for the job,â they havenât played there, theyâre not in the locker room. Theyâve not been in the rooms where heâs coaching. He has nothing to do with the passing game at all. When the plays are designed, thatâs Andy Reid.â
Personalities count, but great coaches are much harder to find in the NFL than good people. And with legends like Mahomes and Reid in his corner, it’s only a matter of time before Bieniemy gets a taste of the head coach life. With a bit of patience, there are many insiders who feel it could happen in Kansas City.
The disrespect coming from the peanut gallery toward six-time Super Bowl champion Bill Belichick was almost embarrassing. Without any knowledge of the situation, former players, media, Tom Brady groupies and New England Patriots haters, took shots at the former head coach after it was reported that he would not be coaching the Atlanta Falcons next season.
Instead, Raheem Morris got the job.
The narrative floating around was that Belichick was too old and the game had passed him by. ESPN analyst Ryan Clark was also guilty of laying it on thick against a coach that he lost to in big spots as an opposing player.
Some suggested that Belichick’s failures with Mac Jones in New England proved that he couldnât develop another franchise quarterback. Others had the audacity to say that Belichickâs entire rĂŠsumĂŠ should be attributed to Tom Brady.Â
There were a few sourpusses who laid it on pretty thick, including Ravens star Marlon Humphries, who ran 100 yards to pay dirt with it. His comment seemed driven by his personal feelings about the legendary coach. Things he’s been harboring for a long time.
Humphrey said: âThe âgreatest coach of all timeâ did not get hired out of 6 Head Coaching jobs openings. I think that debate can be put to rest now.â
Colorado football coach Deion Sanders didnât like Humphries’ tone and is not here for the disrespect of any OGs like Belichick.
Sanders, upon seeing Humphries shade, responded: âLawd Jesus help our youngsters understand the definition of Respect.â
Talk about kicking a guy when heâs down.
However, the story took a twist when former NFL quarterback and WFAN radio voice Boomer Esiason says he heard from a reliable source that it was Belichick who turned the Falcons job down after interviewing twice.
âI was told yesterday, and I do believe it from the source that I got it from, that supposedly [Falcons owner] Arthur Blank was brought in to Bill Belichick and could have offered him the job,â Esiason said on âBoomer and Gioâ on Monday. âI donât know why guys say no, but an NFL executive basically told me that they believe that Arthur Blank offered Bill the job.âÂ
âNow, there may have been some caveats to that offer, you never know. Itâs never, âOK, Bill, I want you, hereâs a five-year contract, you do whatever you want.â I donât think it was one of those,â Esiason added.
This version of the story sounds way more believable. Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank has been in the game a long time, and you know he respects Belichickâs rĂŠsumĂŠ. Who wouldnât? Heâs coached everyone in some capacity from Lawrence Taylor to Tom Brady and won Super Bowls while doing so.Â
We know Belichickâs ego is as big as Bradyâsm and thatâs what has driven him all of these years. Heâs not going to desperately accept an offer that he feels belittles his legacy in any way or doesnât give him the full control and heavy influence on personnel decisions that heâs enjoyed the majority of his career as Patriots coach.Â
With Belichick and Atlanta, a franchise that is at a crossroads and needs to make culturally precise decisions for the future, it was probably all about fit.Â
Like Esiason said, Belichick doesnât just walk into the interview and they throw money at him. Heâs also not going to go begging for a job or even acting overly interested. He probably feels his track record speaks volumes and is only going to sell himself but so much.
Even if Belichick’s interviews didnât overwhelm the Falcons, according to Esiason, Blank was still ready to cut some kind of deal for Belichick to be the head coach.
Who knows, maybe Bill wanted more years on the offer? More guarantees of autonomy in certain decision-making processes that Morris was more than willing to acquiesce to leave to others. Â
Some might say that Esiason is throwing Belichick a lifeline to save him from further embarrassment and attacks on his legacy due to his failure to secure a head coaching job. Esiason could have easily provided the name of the source.
Whoâs to say he even wants to be a head coach so soon after grinding out 24 years with one franchise serving in multiple roles?
It was never as simple as the league thinking that the game had passed Belichick by. Those who let their personal feelings make their mouths say things that they will probably regret down the line will forever be known as haters. Humphries included.
Deion Sanders made that totally clear, but in a nice way. Sanders is not scared to criticize anyone or give his opinion, but for the most part he accomplishes his goals with grace and without diminishing the accomplishments of legends.
Best head coach of all time is an opinion, so Humphries is free to his. As long as he understands that when you go against an icon, be ready for the karma that comes back at you.
Travis Kelce finally got to give his side of the story when it comes to the controversy surrounding the fade haircut and the Kansas City Chiefs tight end being involved in a Black backlash against perceived cultural appropriation.
Some mainstream media outlets implied in their stories that Kelce is popularizing the high fade and Taylor Swift introduced White America to swag surfin’. One viral headline straight out credited him for popularizing the cut. From there, that outlet was accused on social media of claiming he invented the hairstyle.
Of course, the Black podcast community, led by Uncle Shay and Chad Ochocinco had a field day with it.
This got Kelce, whoâs ex-girlfriend is Black, caught up in a social media war. Any anger should not have been directed at Kelce because he never claimed to invent the haircut and made that clear during a Super Bowl week presser.
When looking for a silver lining in this situation, Kelce continues to show how down to earth he is, not shying away from the fact that he understands itâs Black History month and the media is not going to get him caught up in something that will make him a target during Super Bowl week just because of his affiliation with Taylor Swift and his increased media coverage.
Kelce also gave his barber the kind of press you canât buy when he shouted him out.
âI got a good fade if you need it thoughâŚPatty Cuts. If you need a good fade Patty got you,” Kelce said.
Patrick Regan is a barber, who stars like Kelce pay up to $1000 for a meticulously manicured fade. He’s known as @patty_cuts on Instagram and has crafted the haircuts of a roster of sports stars, including UFC fighters, NFL players, music mogul P. Diddy and others.
Patrick resides in Miami, Florida, but is a Philly native and diehard sports fan. He cuts Kelce’s hair once per week, and they actually hooked up on a referral by former New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram.
With that situation masterfully handled by Kelce, he probably still gets to come to the barbeque, despite his annoying love affair with the four-time Grammy Album of the Year winner and the fade cut madness he got dragged into.
The fake outrage and media circus is all a part of the Super Bowl extravaganza. In the forefront of Kelceâs mind is a third Super Bowl ring. At the age of 34, Kelce showed some signs of slowing down, especially early in the season.
Kelce had six games in 2023 where he graded offensively under 65.0, with a final grade of 78.6 for the season, his lowest since 2015, his second year in the league, according to PFF.
His targets, receptions, and yards were down, so were his TDs (just five) and he had six drops. In his last three regular-season games, Kelce had just 13 receptions for 88 yards, no touchdowns, and three drops.
The Taylor Swift circus didnât seem to help his play, although he never became a distraction and waited for an opportunity to show the true champion he is.
Against the highly-favored Baltimore Ravens, Kelce had his breakout game. The All-world tight end caught all 11 of his targets for 116 yards â his third-highest yardage total of the season â with a touchdown. Six of those catches went for key first downs.
When the lights are brightest is when Kelce and his quarterback Patrick Mahomes elevate. Thatâs what makes this tandem special.
Through 21 postseason games, Kelce has 156 catches for 1,810 yards and 19 touchdowns. Against the Ravens in the AFC Championship, Traylor broke the great Jerry Riceâs record for the most postseason receptions. He can solidify his postseason dominance in Super Bowl 58. With two touchdowns, Kelce would also surpass Riceâs 22 playoff receiving touchdowns.
Kelce seems to have everything handled right now. He got the girl; heâs looking for another ring and everything is cool with him and the culture during Black History Month.
We already know what Kobe Bryant means to the City of Angels. His five championships still shine brightly and heavily impactful, although his entire career is but a serious footnote in the annals of Lakers history, where so many of the NBAâs all-time greats put it down for the West Coast.
Fittingly, the Los Angeles Lakers will unveil a bronze statue of Bryant on Feb. 8 in front of the arena that he played nearly his entire legendary career.Â
LeBron James took on the task of following in Kobeâs L.A. footsteps. After successful title runs with Miami Heat and Cleveland Cavs, Bron came to Tinseltown to carve out his own legacy for the first time as an iconic player whose accolades could never rise above the strength of the franchise brand.
Before Bron became a favorite in L.A., he and Kobe had many battles over the years as Bryant was reluctantly passing the baton as elite player in the NBA to a young LeBron James.
LeBron recently spoke about Kobe’s statue tribute and reminisced on the days when Black Mamba ruled the NBA landscape.
“He didn’t have any flaws,” James said. “You just had to be on your toes throughout the course of however many minutes he was playing, which is probably going to be 40-plus. And you couldn’t take a possession off, because he was relentless on the floor every single night.”
James also said that he doesn’t have any idea what moment in Kobe’s career or image that should be captured in the statue.
“I don’t think he has one image that pops into my head and I say that’s the one that should be immortalized on a statue,” James said. “There are just too many memories, too many plays, too many moments that he had. It’s a beautiful moment for not only him but his family.”
Bron and the Lakers will introduce their distinctive âBlack Mambaâ jerseys for the game against the Denver Nuggets.
The unveiling will take place outside Crypto.com Arena before the Lakersâ home game against the Denver Nuggets.
The date holds special significance: Kobe wore jersey numbers 8 and 24 during different phases of his illustrious Lakers career, and this unveiling pays tribute to his enduring legacy as one of the most dynamic and game-changing athletes in history.
The date of the unveiling (2.8.24) also has deeper meaning, as Gianna wore No. 2 while playing youth basketball and being mentored by her father, who started Mamba Academy to provide girls with the same level facilities and training their male counterparts enjoy.
Kobe and Gigi died alongside seven others on Jan. 26, 2020, and have been commemorated with statues in the past.
This one was temporarily stationed at their crash site over Calabasas.
According to NBA TV: âFollowing his retirement, Kobe Bryant participated in the initial planning of the anticipated statue to come at Star Plaza, the team said. Bryant joins Elgin Baylor, Shaquille OâNeal, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Jerry West and Chick Hearn as Lakers with statues outside the arena. Star Plaza also includes statues of the Los Angeles Kingsâ Wayne Gretzky, Luc Robitaille, Dustin Brown and announcer Bob Miller, along with champion boxer Oscar De La Hoya.â
Kobeâs wife Vanessa announced the special occasion via social media back on Aug. 23.
âAs you know, Kobe played his entire 20-year NBA career as a Los Angeles Laker,â said Vanessa Bryant in a video to fans. âSince arriving in this city and joining the Lakers organization, he felt at home here, playing in the City of Angels. On behalf of the Lakers, my daughters and me, I am so honored that, right in the center of Los Angeles, in front of the place known as the house that Kobe built, we are going to unveil his statue so that his legacy can be celebrated forever.â
The Lakers say this is the first in a series of physical tributes to honor his legacy. Mamba mentality is the driving force behind many of todayâs upper echelon NBA players.
Renowned sculptor Julie Rotblatt Amrany of the Fine Art Studio of Rotblatt Amrany put his heart and soul into the magnificent creation.
âKobe Bryant was one of the most extraordinary athletes of all time, and one of the most iconic individuals in the history of Los Angeles,â Jeanie Buss, Los Angeles Lakers governor, said in a statement. âThere is no better place for Kobe to be honored with a statue than here, at the center of our city, where everyone can celebrate him and be inspired by his incredible achievements.â
Kobe âBeanâ Bryant passed away way too soon at the age of 41. He had so much more to contribute to the world. Bryant, an 18-time NBA All-Star, retired as the first player in NBA history to play at least 20 seasons with a single franchise.
Driven by his incomparable âMamba Mentality,â Kobe led the Lakers to five NBA titles and earned Finals MVP honors twice (2009, 2010) and All-NBA honors 15 times.
There are many players who consider him The GOAT, despite the absence of his name in commercial conversations surrounding the subject.
âKobe Bean Bryant. Heâs the greatest one-on-one player Iâve ever competed against, and not just because of his skillset. Itâs because of his mentality. He was just a certified killer,â Hall of Fame forward Tracy McGrady said on a podcast. âI see MJ & Kobe, but Kobe enhanced those skill sets that he took from Michael Jordan. The ball-handling skills. The fadeaways. I think Kobe is the most skilled basketball player that Iâve ever seen over Michael Jordan.â
If anyone deserves a statue, itâs Kobe. Letâs continue the memory.
Whatâs really good with Klay Thompson? The Golden State Warriors guard has had a challenging season, to say the least. Heâs averaging less than 20 points per game (17.1) for the first time since the 2013-14 season. His shooting percentages are down and he’s averaging 10.7 ppg on 4-of-26 shooting from three-point range in the last three games.
He isnât horrible by any means, as NBA Insider Brian Windhorst pointed out on Tuesdayâs âFirst Takeâ show, but itâs clear he canât provide the same defensive intensity or offensive versatility that made the 13-year veteran a shoo-in future Hall of Famer prior to ripping his Achilles, his second major injury.
The numbers are respectable, but not acceptable for a guy who was considered one of the top 5 shooters of all-time during his magical run as Stephen Curryâs underrated Splash Brother.
Stephen A. Smith went as far as to call Thompson âwashed upâ in November 2023, when the Warriors were struggling to find the groove that made them NBA champions for the fourth time in Klayâs career just a year earlier.
âI do think that weâve reached the point in time where somebody has to put Klay Thompson on notice,â said Smith. âMy brother, you look like you have slipped tremendously. You said coming into this season that this would be the most important offseason and the most important preseason of your career.â
âIf Klay Thompson isnât shooting the ball at an elite level, what use is there for him any longer?â
Klay was averaging a career-low 14.4 points at the time.
Big Perk, Smithâs partner in calling for players and coaches to be fired and traded, felt Klay’s pain but doesn’t have much tolerance for this ongoing drama with Klay, who complained to the media after he didnât play in the final seven minutes of a 109-98 win over the Brooklyn Nets on Monday night.Â
It was the second time Thompson was benched down the stretch in his past three games. Steve Kerr is sending strong signals to Thompson in regard to the role Kerr thinks he is capable of playing on a championship team.
With Golden State sitting outside of the playoffs, 12th in the Western Conference at 22-25, weâve seen an infusion of younger players such as Jonthan Kuminga getting more minutes and providing a variety of skills that enhance Golden Stateâs chance of winning with Curry carrying such a huge load offensively.
Klay told reporters it’s been âvery hardâ dealing with watching some of the most important moments of the game from the sidelines.
His teammate Draymond Green didnât have much sympathy for Clay either. As reporters stood around his locker, Green interjected:
âI got benched in Game 5 of the Final, who the (expletive) cares.â
Klay didnât seem to like Greenâs interference, but his posture has been a bit self-centered lately.
We also understand where Green is coming from because Dub Nation as a collective loves Thompson, but all agree that itâs time for him to put up or shut up. Regain his NBA All-Star-level play or settle into another role and donât expect to get paid for past service time in the next contract.
âI feel so bad for Klay Thompson,â Perkins said on âFirst Take.â âPeople want to say heâs washed and heâs done and doesnât have anything in the tank, but I honestly donât believe that. For the life of me I donât understand why the Warriors wonât stop the bleeding. Trade Klay Thompson.â
Perk went on to say that he thinks Klayâs mind is not focused and the 19.6 points per game career scorer hasnât been on the same page as the organization since the offseason, when they tried to negotiate a contract extension and he turned it down.
After seeing Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins and Jordan Poole get contracts valued at over $100 million each, Perk suggests Thompson feels a way and heâs disconnected psychologically, which doesnât allow him to perform at his best.
People constantly saying you’re not the same player anymore can’t help. When lacking confidence, positive reinforcement is important. At the same, time, as Draymond showed us, Klay’s not going to be coddled. He’s been through the wars. He understands the culture.
If that is the case, then Klayâs ego and the injuries and obvious decline in play are all one toxic mix resulting in him giving off vibes that arenât favorable to his perception as a leader and elite player on that Dynasty team, desperately trying to find a recipe for one last run with Steph Curry still performing at an MVP level.
Klay is turning 34 years old on Feb. 8 and has only known one franchise in his career. With the playoff mileage that he has and the mental baggage that seems to be holding him back, maybe he needs to find a contending team that needs a veteran shooter who can still knock down a big shot late in the game and get the appreciation he is seeking.
Just when the Knicks and their fans thought the franchise’s streak of bad luck was ending, rising star OG Anunoby, 26, is listed as out for Tuesday’s game vs. Memphis. He is set to miss his fifth straight game with right elbow inflammation.
Prior to this recent injury, the Knicksâ trade for Anunoby seemed like destiny to Knicks fans. Itâs almost impossible in NBA trades for a team to find the perfect piece, but thatâs what the Knicks front office accomplished when it traded a No. 3 overall pick (2019) in RJ Barrett and another highly-coveted young player in Immanuel Quickly to Toronto for the multi-talented, defensive-minded veteran Anunoby.
Anunoby, in his sixth season, is one of the best 3-and-D players in the league and one of the best on-ball wing defenders the league has seen in some time. He was exactly what the Knicks needed to complement two very capable scorers in Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle. He brings them one step closer to serious contention in averaging 15.3 points per game, 4.2 rebounds and almost two steals.
If the world didnât know who Anunoby was when he was helping the Toronto Raptors win an NBA championship in 2019, his ascension as one of the stars who bring Knicks fans to Madison Square Garden expecting a win, has started to really put him on the map.Â
Anunoby continues the trend of foreign-born players breaking into the NBA and becoming impactful players on high profile teams.
So how did a 26-year-old kid from London become an NBA star with a reported net worth of roughly $50M? Itâs not like the U.K. is a hotbed for future NBA stars. Pop and rap artists and soccer players sure. He’s just one of seven players from England in NBA history.
Anunoby was born in the Harlesden area of London on July 17, 1997. His father was born and raised in Nigeria before moving to the UK for graduate school, but OG didnât spend much time in London. When he was 4, his father was offered a teaching opportunity as a professor of Business and Finance at Lincoln University and the family moved to Jefferson City, Missouri.
His older brother is also an athlete and played for four different NFL teams as a defensive lineman. Chigbo Anunoby played at Morehouse College in Atlanta and then bounced around the NFL with the Cleveland Browns, Minnesota Vikings and Tennessee Titans before entering medical school.
While OG gets his discipline and drive from his father, his family’s athletic genes come from his mother, who competed in track and field at a national level in Nigeria but passed away due to cancer when OG was just a year old.Â
OG’s father stressed academics. He and his siblings had to read for an hour every night as well as maintain a high-grade point average, and it helped him build up his work ethic.
At Jefferson City High School, he did it all. Anunoby played soccer, competed in the 400m, high and long jump on the track, played wide receiver and reportedly was great in baseball as a pitcher.
His father thought Anunoby could go pro in baseball, but OG says he was obsessed with basketball since he was 8 years old and begged his dad to get him a hoop to practice his shooting.
The rest is history.
Anunoby has earned nearly $89 million already in the NBA. His next contract with the Knicks will be through the roof and should clear the $100 million mark. He signed a four-year, $9.7 million deal as a rookie after the Toronto Raptors drafted him with the 23rd pick of the 2017 Draft.
His second contract was a four-year, $72 million guaranteed contract in 2020 and his salary for this season is a smooth $18,642,857. Anunoby’s contract runs through the 2024/25 season. Then he will become an unrestricted free agent.
OG is still a young investor but he’s not oblivious to money management and has a shrewd business acumen.
The defensive-stopper already has deals with Adidas, Chipotle, Gatorade Canada and Google Pixel. His major investment as a minority stakeholder in the basketball team, London Lions, also brings him a nice bag.
His current net worth is estimated at $50 million and with the endorsements that are sure to follow as he becomes a star on a revitalized Knicks franchise, his empire will rise quickly.Â
For now, the riches are just a part of the reward for grinding to the top of the game. With more than enough money to be comfortable already, Anunoby can build a legacy that money can’t buy if he continues to help transform the New York Knicks â a franchise that hasn’t won a championship since 1973 â into a true contender.
Antonio Brown had a brief string of success after he walked off an NFL field for the last time in the middle of a regular season game.
He was affiliated with Kanye West at a time when Yeezy was popping and had Donda Sports Academy going and was still caking, and AB also had a brief run with some popular songs fueled by his social media popularity.
Eventually, he couldnât sustain the act and his messy personal life â from romps with IG models, to more run-ins with the law, accusations of fathering babies and his wild social media posts â pushed him further away from Hall of Fame consideration with every tweet sent.
IG legend Celina Powell was recently seen getting a tattoo of the ex-NFL star on her face. She seems to be outlasting all of the other women in his life, including the mother of his five kids.
The couple has been rumored to have some kind of relationship for several years, but Brown always shoots down any confirmation of the association, labeling her as crazy.
Back in 2022, Powell was spotted on social media wearing Antonio Brownâs Super Bowl ring that he won with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This led many internet personalities and fans to assume that the two had hooked up or were dating. Powell, who is known for hooking up with different celebrities, seems to have waited in the cut and is reaping some sort of benefits from her association with AB.
While the authenticity of the tattoo is yet to be confirmed, AB did respond.
He doesnât seem to like the tat or be in approval of her moves, calling her “Cracker of The Month.” But it does shift both Powell and Brown to the forefront of gossip media for the next 24 hours. They are a perfect match because they both go hard for attention.
Both currently have careers in limbo. Brown will never play again in the NFL for many reasons, including the fact that he is currently expressing the various erratic symptoms associated with CTE.
Brown has not publicly claimed any deep-rooted relationship with Powell, and they seem to come to each otherâs aid just when they both need a spark of exposure and some income in their lives.
We will find out in the upcoming days whether or not Powell was really low-key clowning Chrisean Rock and her lucrative and emotionally draining relationship with rapper and her childâs father Blueface. Or she possibly could be making some connection to the dynamics of that relationship and her ârelationshipâ with Brown.
If we want to dig deeper, Powell could have also been taking some shots at R&B diva Keyshia Cole, whom Brown did dirty back in 2022. Brown, who had a relationship with Cole that she apparently took very seriously, shared a now-deleted video on Instagram of what appeared to be a lower back tattoo of his initials on the R&B singer.
Alongside the video featuring the lower back tattoo, Brown wrote the caption: “You Ain’t Pimpin Until You Hit An RnB Diva. #FreeAgent #KeepPimpin.”
An embarrassed Cole was forced to respond on Instagram Live, where she said she was “trying to figure out” her relationship with Brown, who had already made his intentions clear.
“I think he made it very clear,” she said. “He was like, ‘Baby, I liked you at first, but now I don’t â it’s a no.”
Brown is a loose cannon. People who are looking for stability from associating with him are looking for trouble. From the Pittsburgh Steelers to the Tampa Bay Bucs to Donda Academy to his beef with the other owners of the Albany Empire everything ends with drama.
Same with Powell, a devoted drama queen and proud groupiewho admits to doing publicity stunts for clout. A match made in social media heaven.
