We Want Ms. Clark!: Cameron Brink ACL and Rhyne Howard Leg Injury Could Spell Doom For USA 3×3 Team, Which Won’t Be Replacing Them With Caitlin Clark

Los Angeles Sparks rookie Cameron Brink, one of the first-year WNBA players that have helped the league capture an entire generation of new fans, was playing effectively this season and preparing for the 3×3 Women’s Olympic team in Paris this summer.

“There’s A Privilege For Younger White Players”: Cameron Brink Makes USA 3×3 Team With Hailey Van Lith and Wants Acceptance For Her “Masculine” Teammates

In an unfortunate twist of events, the 22-year-old godsister of Steph Curry suffered a torn ACL during a game against the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday, June 18, after she slipped while making contact with Sun forward Brionna Jones.

Following the play, Brink was helped off the court and carried to the locker room by her teammates. With her Olympic dreams now shattered, Brink still attempted to put a positive spin on the situation.

“You never think it will happen to you,” the No. 2 pick of the 2024 WNBA draft wrote on Instagram Wednesday, June 19. “And despite all the hard work sometimes it does. This is hard to fathom but I know it will only make me stronger.”

Brink continued, “I will not be derailed and I will continue to love this life — I’m not defined by basketball, but it is something that I love deeply, and I will work every day to get back to it. It’s not goodbye basketball it’s just a see you later. I’m always so thankful for your thoughts and prayers. 💜💛 #delayednotdenied”

Who Will Replace Cameron Brink On 3×3 Team?

With Brink sidelined, conversation has begun concerning who will replace her on the US Team. Of course, Caitlin Clark’s name came up.

When the Indiana Fever rookie was not selected for the women’s Olympic 5×5 squad, a large section of social media who have become enthralled and captivated by Clark and the attention she is getting from fans and corporate went crazy, criticizing everyone from head coach Cheryl Reeve to the Olympic selection committee.

Clark is the most popular player in the WNBA right now, and she is the front-runner currently for Rookie of the Year. Brink was a top 3 contender for that award, along with Angel Reese, so Clark has less competition going forward.

So Why Not Clark?

According to FIBA eligibility for the Olympic 3×3 roster, two of the four players must be ranked inside the top 10 of their country’s talent pool. The other two must be ranked inside the top 50. But to gain those ranking points, the player needed to previously compete in 3×3 events. Clark has not played in any 3×3 competitions, which would leave her ineligible as a roster candidate.

Clark unfortunately does not fit this criteria, although the fans probably don’t care and want to see the league’s most popular player on the big stage.

Candidates that fall within the criteria and are more likely to make the team include Clark’s teammate Aliyah Boston, Allisha Gray, L.A. Sparks star Dearica Hamby and somebody named Betnijah-Laney Hamilton, who I’m sure 99 percent of WNBA fans have never heard of.

Everybody from Charles Barkley to the bank teller were complaining that Clark got “snubbed” from the 5×5 team. There were those who also pushed back against it, defending WNBA’s all-time leading scorer Diana Taurasi, who for some reason, people felt should be taken off the team for Clark. It became the focus of sports conversation with people on both sides of the fence.

Sorry, Caitlin Clark, This Team USA Journey Is All About Diana Taurasi’s Historic Sixth Olympic Gold Medal and A Proper Farewell To WNBA’s GOAT

When Brink went down, without knowing the rules, of course Caitlin Clark’s name quickly was offered as a replacement. It’s wild, because some sports fans are more concerned with her well-being and how she’s being treated after received her $28 million Nike contract and joining the WNBA, than their own kids.

People who still to this day have never watched a WNBA game are willing to ride for CC just because.

The US Women’s Basketball team has won every gold medal since 1996, so as much as fans would have liked to see Clark play, she’s not needed on a team that is loaded.

Basketball-wise, even if Clark was eligible for 3×3 participation, her game doesn’t really fit with how the team is constructed. They have Hailey Van Lith to handle the ball and another big was needed to replace Brink, who is 6 feet 4, a rim protector and supreme shot blocker with three-point range as well.

Clark was one of many members of the WNBA community that sent well-wishes to the No. 2 overall pick and said that they were roommates on the road in Thailand when they were 17 years old. So there’s a relationship there.

Hailey Van Lith Took It There | You’re Mad Because She Owned Her Privilege and Rides For “Dirty Debutantes”

“I know she’s the type of person to be able to get through it and come out through it stronger,” Clark said. “But yeah, I mean, it breaks your heart. She’s such a good basketball player but an even better person. Obviously, knowing her, being one of my friends, kind of going through this process together.”

Rhyne Howard Goes Down Too

As if the injury to Cameron Brink wasn’t devastating enough, Atlanta Dream baller Rhyne Howard, who is also on the 3×3 team and is her team’s leading scorer with 15.4 points per game, exited the game in the third quarter with a lower-leg injury.

Atlanta head coach Tanisha Wright said Howard would be re-evaluated on Thursday.

Howard is the second member of the U.S. Olympic women’s 3×3 team to go down in as many days. Not a good sign for Team USA, but the talent pool in U.S. women’s hoops is very deep, so, if Howard can’t go that just creates more storylines for the league and more arguments about who should replace the two players.

Stay tuned.

Over Like A Fat Rat: Pistons Cut Ties With Monty Williams And Still Owe Him $68M

The Detroit Pistons are turning the page on the Monty Williams era just one season into his onetime NBA-record six-year, $78.5 million contract. Following a 14-68 season that also saw an NBA single season record 28-game losing streak, the Pistons are looking for a fresh start. The 68 losses are the most in Pistons franchise history, and team owner Tom Gores is reportedly the one who made the call to move on from Williams despite the massive money he’s still owed.

In a statement, Gores thanked Williams but also expressed the desire to move forward with a new voice stalking the sidelines.

“Decisions like these are difficult to make, and I want to thank Monty for his hardwork  and dedication. Coaching has many dynamic challenges that emerge during a season and Monty always handled those with grace. However, after reviewing our performance carefully and assessing our current position as an organization, we will chart a new course moving forward.”

While the move was surprising, it was actually the right move. Williams never had the pulse of the young Pistons team.

Williams Stubbornness Weighed Heavily

Williams tenure as coach of the Pistons got off to a rocky start when he decided to bring 2022 No. 5 overall pick Jaden Ivey off the bench. This after Ivey started 73 games as a rookie. Williams instead elected to start Killian Hayes, who was drafted seventh overall in 2020. That move didn’t sit well at all with the Pistons fan base, who soured on Hayes after his first three underachieving seasons. Meanwhile, Ivey was named NBA All-Rookie Second Team, and showed flashes of why he was so highly regarded leading up to the 2022 NBA draft.

That move was just one of many questionable ones made by Williams in his lone season at the helm in Motown. There were also many postgame pressers where Williams, who’s supposed to be the leader, looked absolutely bewildered, especially during the team’s 28-game losing streak. Williams’ rotations came into question, and despite being a fairly young coach (52), there was an obvious disconnect between him and his players.

What’s Next For The Pistons?

Late last month the team hired former New Orleans Pelicans executive Trajan Langdon as their new president of basketball operations. The move seemed to trigger the resignation of then general manager Troy Weaver who stepped down on June 1. Weaver hired Williams in a move that shocked everyone around the league. Langdon’s first order of business will be to find a coach that fits the talented but extremely young Pistons.

Barring any major changes to their core unit of the aforementioned Cunningham and Ivey along with Jalen Duren, Ausar Thompson and center James Wiseman, the Pistons will enter the 2024-25 season as the sixth-youngest team in the league. That means they’ll need a coach who can build rapport, inspire players and build their confidence while being a great communicator. He’ll also have to be willing to let the team make mistakes and learn from those same mistakes.

Candidates To Replace Williams

The top choice has to be former Charlotte Hornets head coach James Borrego, who has a solid relationship with the aforementioned Langdon from their time together with the Pelicans. Celtics assistant Sam Cassell just helped bring the franchise its NBA record 18th championship, and at some point he’s gonna get a shot. Cassell could be the hidden gem that the Pistons need.

Others who may get a look are David Adelman, Chris Quinn and Kenny Atkinson. No matter who’s hired, this will be Langdon’s first big hire and move, and for the sake of the young Pistons he must get this right.

Pistons Will Look To Add Playmaking Wing In 2024 Draft

In most mock drafts the Pistons are slated to select forward Matas Buzelis (G League Ignite). The 6-foot-9 do-it-all wing possesses the size and shot-making ability that the Pistons offense currently lacks.

He’s been compared to former NBA star Lamar Odom.

Willie Mays’ Passing Comes At The Right Time: Baseball World Will Celebrate His Life In Unison At Rickwood Field

To get an essence of what Willie Howard Mays Jr. contributed to the sport of baseball would truly take a lifetime.

That being said, I’m up for the task of giving you and all of our readers a respectable snapshot.

When you see a Ken Griffey Jr. or a Byron Buxton glide effortlessly in center field to snare down a line drive in the gap, you’re seeing Willie Mays.

When you see a Kenny Lofton or a Mookie Betts go from first to third at warp speed, you’re seeing Willie Mays.

When you saw Nate Colbert, or a Mike Cameron, or a Mark Whiten put on an awesome display of power in a doubleheader, you saw Willie Mays.

Willie Mays Was The Quintessential Five-Tool Player

When you hear the term “a five-tool player,” you’re talking about Willie Mays.

Moses Fleetwood Walker and Jackie Robinson paved the way for guys like Aaron, Robinson, Gibson, and others.

They all had their own unique styles and approaches to the game. However, No. 24 brought a whole different style, swagger, and flavor to the game.

Many of us who are baseball fans of a certain age are also lovers of jazz music. Let’s not forget the the improvisational nature of the genre whether it’s a Charlie Parker, a Quincy Jones, or a Wynton Marsalis.

When I hear the genius riffs of these great musicians, I think of baseball and most importantly, The Say Hey Kid, Mr. Mays.

The basket catch. The waggling of the bat before a pitch. The commanding swagger in center field.

All of those things set Willie Mays apart from his contemporaries. This is way beyond the 24 All-Star Game selections, the 12 Gold Gloves, the two MVP awards, the 3,293 hits, and 660 homers.

The Alabama native passed away Tuesday afternoon at the age of 93. It comes days before the San Francisco Giants are set to face off against the St. Louis Cardinals at Rickwood Field in Birmingham, Alabama, in a game honoring Mays and the Negro Leagues.

It was announced on Monday that Mays would not be able to attend. Mays, who was born on May 6, 1931, began his professional career at the age of 17 in 1948 with the Birmingham Black Barons, helping the team to the Negro League World Series that season.

“My father has passed away peacefully and among loved ones,” Michael Mays said in a statement released by the Giants. “I want to thank you all from the bottom of my broken heart for the unwavering love you have shown him over the years. You have been his life’s blood.”

As a young writer in the late ’90s, I was blessed to be able to interview Mr. Mays for my hometown newspaper. He and fellow Hall of Famer Mickey Mantle were only a few years removed from being reinstated by then commissioner Peter Ueberroth because of their “association” with a casino in Atlantic City.

Willie Mays’ Time With Giants Wasn’t All Sunshine and Roses

Yes, there was a time that baseball and casinos were not mentioned in the same breath. But that’s another story for another day. Mays stated one of the first entities that reached out to him was his former team, the San Francisco Giants.

Willie’s relationship with the franchise had become estranged over the years due to the fallout of his 1972 trade to the New York Mets. “Mr. Stoneham told me he would never trade me and I felt very betrayed”, Mays said.

The rift between Mays and the Giants was so deep that Mays’ displayed jersey at the Hall of Fame was originally a New York Mets No. 24 instead of a San Francisco Giants No. 24. When team owner Bob Lurie privately reached out to Mays following his reinstatement, the Giants named him a special assistant to the president and general manager.

By 1993, Mays, along with former teammates Willie McCovey and Orlando Cepeda signed a lifetime contract with the team and helped to muster public enthusiasm for building the Giants’ new stadium, Pac Bell Park (now Oracle Park).

Over the years, he’s served as an ambassador for the Giants and baseball in general. All told, in a career that spanned 20-plus years (1951-73) — most of them with his beloved Giants – ranks sixth all time in home runs (660), seventh in runs scored (2,068), 12th in RBI, (1,909) and 13th in hits (3,293).

In a statement from the MLBPA, executive director Tony Clark said Mays “played the game with an earnestness, a joy and a perpetual smile that resonated with fans everywhere. He will be remembered for his integrity, his commitment to excellence and a level of greatness that spanned generations,” Clark said.

The legacy of Willie Mays will live forever within the current crop of African-American players of today and the future. To many, he remains The GOAT.

‘Nasty Work By These Outlets’ | WNBA Legend Swin Cash Calls Out Media For Continuously Harping On Angel Reese Flagrant Foul On Caitlin Clark

Sunday’s matchup between the Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky was once again testy. Just weeks after Sky guard Chennedy Carter took a cheap shot at 2024 No. 1 overall pick Caitlin Clark on an inbounds play, the Sky-Fever matchup once again involved a controversial play. This time it involved Clark and rival Angel Reese, with the aforementioned Reese being assessed a flagrant foul for hitting Clark in the head on a drive to the basket.

The hit sent Clark flying out of bounds, and per usual she jumped up, shook it off and stepped to the free throw line and knocked in her free throws. The foul quickly went viral, and, per usual, the Clark fans took issue with it, while Reese’s fans felt it was a basketball play. While that was expected, it was what the media did to harp on the play that got three-time WNBA champions Swin Cash talking. The former four-time MVP and two-time All-Star MVP took issue with how outlets ran with the narrative of Reese being jealous of Clark and how they continuously showed the replay.

“Nasty Work” Cash Calls Out Media Outlets

The former UConn Huskies legend took to X to talk about how media outlets were only focused on the Reese foul, and not anything else that transpired in the Fever’s exciting 91-83 win over the Sky.

“To have the only highlight of Angel be that foul is nasty work by these outlets,” Cash said. “U know what you’re doing while also questioning her intent is nonsense! They got it right, it was flagrant 1 it was called by the refs & the players played on.”

Cash, who’s an executive for the NBA’s New Orleans Pelicans, also made sure to send her support for Reese amidst the controversial play.

“SMH Keep Pushin & Competing Angel.”

Yes, they could’ve shown more plays of Reese than that, but when you consider the disdain Reese seems to have for Clark stuff like this isn’t gonna help her case. In fact, FS1s Emmanuel Acho even said “it looks like she has an issue exclusively with Clark.”

The two have had four battles since the 2023 NCAA title game, and while Reese won that one, Clark has been victorious in the last three, including 2-0 in the WNBA.

Reese Wants Her Flowers

It’s no secret that Clark’s arrival to the WNBA has been the most anticipated of any player ever. Because of it the viewership is at an all-time high and the league as a whole has never had so much attention on it. In early June, Reese told reporters that Clark isn’t the only reason fans are tuned into women’s basketball, it’s because of her too.

While she’s correct, the vast majority of the newfound fans are watching because of Clark, and that’s been evident in the games, including Sunday’s Sky-Fever matchup, which was the most watched WNBA game in 23 years.

WNBA Numbers Are Way Up

Clark’s arrival has helped the league see a 156 percent increase in attendance at games. Viewership is up to an average of 1.32 million viewers for nationally televised games, which Clark is a part of more than anyone. There’s even an increase in the league’s pregame show WNBA Countdown, which is averaging 741,000 viewers. Merchandise sales have seen an increase of 236 percent, and WNBA League Pass subscriptions are up 355 percent from last year.

Call it what you want, it’s the “Caitlin Clark Effect,” and not everyone is happy about it.

‘Looking Forward To Her Day In Court’: Daughter Of NFL Star and Hollywood Actress Charged With Night Club B&E, $500 Liquor Heist Days After High School Graduation

Former NFL star Jason Sehorn has lived a charmed life. He was a star cornerback and effective return man for the New York Giants from 1994-2002. His current wife, Meghann Hessert Gunderman, is an American entrepreneur and activist who founded and serves as the executive director of The Foundation For Tomorrow.

He married veteran actress Angie Harmon in 2001 and divorced in 2016. They have shared joint custody of daughter Avery and her two sisters since their split.

Avery Sehorn Accused Of Breaking Into World Night Club, Stealing Booze

Family problems have hit the Sehorn family as 19-year-old Avery (18 at the time of the incident) and two 17-year-old boys were arrested and charged with breaking into World Night Club In Charlotte, North Carolina, and stealing six bottles of liquor worth $500 around midnight on June 6.

Looks like we got a live one. Avery Sehorn not only allegedly stole the liquor, but authorities say she decided to join her running mates in sticking around to drink some of it in the place they just committed a B&E.

This story reeks of rich privilege gone awry.

The threesome were reportedly caught hiding behind a bar drinking the booze when cleaning crews spotted them. After attempting the great escape, all three were quickly apprehended by police. The incident was also reportedly captured on video by security cameras.

Avery Sehorn was not given a pass for being the daughter of a football legend. She was booked into the Mecklenburg County Detention Center only a few days after her high school graduation and a few days before her 19th birthday.

Who is Angie Harmon?

Her mother Angie Harmon has 21 movie credits to her name and has been in the Hollywood game for some time. Her career was launched when the Greek and Cherokee native won Seventeen magazine’s cover-girl contest at age 15, beating out 63,000 other teens. As a model, she appeared in fashion spreads in Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Elle, among others, and walked the runway for designers such as Calvin Klein and Versace.

According to legend, she met Knight Rider himself, David Hasselhoff, on an airline flight, where he offered her an audition for the role of Ryan McBride in his series “Baywatch Nights.”

She played Jane Rizzoli in the TV series “Rizzoli & Isles” (2010–2016), ADA Abbie Carmichael in the TV series “Law & Order” (1998–2001), Rose in the film “Seraphim Falls” (2006, and Veronica Cleeman in “Fun with Dick and Jane” (2005), just to name a few of her credits.

Sehorn proposed to her during a taping of “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.”

Who Is Jason Sehorn?

Jason Sehorn was drafted by the New York Giants in the second round of the 1994 NFL draft and spent the majority of his career playing cornerback for the Giants. He rose to prominence as the only white cornerback in the NFL.

After a breakout season (1996–97) Sehorn tore his ACL and MCL in 1998. He returned the next season, but his speed was compromised and he wasn’t the same player. Still, Sehorn started 73 games for the Giants at cornerback from 1996 to 2002 and represented them in Super Bowl XXXV, leading the NFL in forced fumbles in 1996.

He signed with the St. Louis Rams in 2003, missed the first six games due to a broken foot but played in the last ten before retiring. Sehorn accumulated 458 tackles, 19 interceptions and five TDs in his career.

What a way to launch your post-high school life. It’s all party and bullsh*t from here (In the words of the late great Biggie Smalls).

What Was Avery Sehorn Charged With?

Sehorn was charged with felony breaking and/or entering and felony larceny after breaking/entering.

Her mother’s attorneys are adamant that there’s more to the story:

“Ms. Harmon respects and believes in the criminal justice system. She is looking forward to her daughter’s day in court so that the real truth can be told from individuals who were eyewitnesses to the events,” Angie Harmon’s attorney George V. Laughrun II told People in a statement.

“They and their counsel are confident that the truth will be forthcoming and again are looking ahead to show actual facts about what occurred, not conclusions and conjecture from outside sources. We will be making no further comment until our day in court and ask that everyone respect their privacy.”

Harmon’s high school career has ended unceremoniously, but she was released with no bond. All that was required was a written promise to appear for her court date on June 28. She will probably get a slap on the wrist or even have charges dropped if it can be proved she was not an active participant in the theft and the guzzling session.

‘Could Be Catastrophic’: Does Mookie Betts’ Fractured Hand Spell Doom For World Series-Or-Bust L.A. Dodgers Franchise Paying Out $316M To Players?

MLB superstar Mookie Betts is one of the 6 percent African-American players in baseball. He’s also a prime candidate for top player in the game as he’s perennially in the MVP race and won the award in 2018 as a member of the Boston Red Sox

Betts made history this season when he turned in his Gold Glove in right field to assume the everyday responsibilities at shortstop. It was an unprecedented move, but necessary.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are going for the gusto this season, having signed two-time MVP and former L.A. Angels star slugger Shohei Ohtani to a record $700 million deal in the offseason. Betts, Ohtani and All-Star first baseman Freddie Freeman, another former MVP, came together to form the most formidable threesome in MLB.

The acquisition of Ohtani and the continued and consistent elevation of Betts – now as one of the best shortstops in the league – has the Dodgers sitting pretty, eight games in front of the competition in the NFL West.

Magic Johnson and Stan Kasten, current president and part-owner of the Dodgers, have spared no coins in trying to get the Dodger back to the World Series for the first time since they won it all during the 2020 shortened COVID season.

Everything was set up perfectly for them to challenge for a title. In sports, we are taught to expect the unexpected, and an injury to their most important player, a durable and versatile player, is something they would have never predicted.

Mookie Betts Fractures His Hand, Out For About 65 Games

On Monday, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said that the team is expecting Mookie Betts to miss roughly six to eight weeks with a hand fracture after getting hit by a pitch in the seventh inning of the Dodgers’ 3-0 win over the Kansas City Royals on Sunday.

LA Dodgers Superstar Mookie Betts will be out 6 to 8 weeks with a fractured hand after getting hit by a pitch.

Roberts compared the timeline to when former Los Angeles shortstop Corey Seager missed 65 games in 2021 with a similar injury.

Nick Hamilton of Nitecast Media said the loss could be “catastrophic.”

“He’s headed to the IL for the first time this season,” Hamilton, who spends hours over the course of a season at Dodgers Stadium, said. “Scheduled to return if rehab goes well, 6-8 weeks from now. This will impact the lineup as they lose a guy at SS, but also lose a player who can connect at the plate leading off in order to get on base. Dave Roberts will try options until he can figure out the best lineup but Betts presence on the field and in the clubhouse as an active player will be missed.”

The Dodgers are a loaded squad, ranked fourth in pitching and third in hitting in MLB team statistics. But baseball is all about chemistry. The loss of the seven-time All-Star is a tough blow for Los Angeles, as Betts was in the midst of another MVP-caliber season as the Dodgers’ shortstop and leadoff hitter.

Through 72 games, he was hitting .304 with 10 home runs and 40 RBI, and he’s certainly the most important player on the team. Betts also owned a .405 on-base percentage, which represented the third-highest mark of his career over the course of a full season.

Luckily, the Dodgers have gotten out to a fast start with Betts and Ohtani leading the way. The dominance of those two players have helped the Dodgers withstand a string of injuries throughout the 2024 season.

LA Dodgers With Comfortable Lead In NL West Despite Injuries

In addition to Betts, starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto, another high-priced free agent from Japan, was placed on the 15-day injured list due to a strained rotator cuff. Third baseman Max Muncy also remains out after suffering an oblique strain on May 15.

In Betts’ absence, Los Angeles will likely lean on veteran Miguel Rojas at shortstop, but they will certainly feel the difference in production, leadership and energy on the field.

They are praying that Betts comes back sooner rather than later. With the Dodgers’ abundance of talent, some aren’t giving them a pass because Betts got hurt.

With one of the most dynamic players in the sport with two championship rings to his résumé out of the lineup for at least 65 games, according to manager Dave Roberts’ assessment, now is the opportune time for the San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants to cut into the 45-29 Dodgers’ lead and get up over the .500 mark.

‘What They Gonna Say Now?’: Jayson Tatum Gave An Historic Clinic On How A Superstar Sacrifices To Win NBA Title

Winning championships takes sacrifice. The superstars who win NBA championships often make concessions in their game and stats in order to reach the pinnacle of success as a basketball player.

Titles are what separates the GOATS from the very good players. Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum understood this better than anyone in these NBA Finals. Sometimes, when mainstream media and the social media moshpit is looking for a gaudy statistical performance to affirm your status among the greats, it’s actually the little things the player does or doesn’t do that determines if they will ultimately be successful.

Tatum was “Mr. Everything” for Boston in these NBA Finals, so it was only fitting that he finished the Dallas Mavericks off with his best scoring game of the series. The 23.1 ppg career scorer in his seventh season, spoke loudly and honestly prior to the series about his objective entering these Finals.

“I’m willing to do less to achieve more,” Tatum said.

Jayson Tatum Understood The Assignment

Tatum understood the assignment in these NBA Finals. Realizing early on in the series that he didn’t have to force shots and, more important, if his shot wasn’t on, he played defense, rebounded and facilitated, all equally important aspects of the game in addition to scoring.

He fought tirelessly to help limit Luka Doncic’s scoring prowess and keep the pressure on the Mavericks offensive for four quarters.

We know he can do that with the best of them, but the Celtics’ big advantage is that so can Brown and Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis and Derrick White and even Al Horford if needed.

As the No. 1 player on the team, Tatum’s job was to ensure success. The Celtics had the best team in the NBA all season and were the top three-point shooting team. They also are a stout defensive squad, as evidenced by the job they collectively did on a backcourt that some were calling the “most skilled in history” entering the NBA finals.

“This is an incredible feeling. I’m at a loss for words, I’m sorry. We responded all year, and this is no different. It’s been a long journey. It’s been a long journey,” Tatum said while basking in the glory of his first championship. “What they gonna say now? What they gon’ say now?

“We have a resilient group. We’ve been through a lot as a team over my seven years here. “

The NBA Finals is a different beast. Refs don’t blow their whistles as much; more physicality is to be expected and you’re facing the best team left. Usually, those teams have game plans to stop the opposing team’s best player, forcing other guys to step up and make plays.

The first thing a superstar can do when his shot isn’t falling is abandon his sense as a basketball player.

Jayson Tatum Shows Superstar Play Goes Beyond Just Scoring Buckets

What fans and analytic nerds cram to understand is that there’s more to the game than scoring. John Starks shot the Knicks out of a championship in 1994 because he was so caught up in gunning that he forgot all of the other responsibilities and duties that can lead a team to a championship.

Tatum refused to let any sort of rough shooting nights deter his aggression, passion and versatility. Sure, Porzingis’ Game 1 return was inspiring. Jrue Holiday’s 26 points in Game 2 and Jaylen Brown’s two-way excellence were vital.

But Tatum’s unselfishness, positive attitude and reserve was the constant throughout the series. He filled up the box score with more than just points. When the team did need him to step up, he did in Game 3, when he got his first 30-point game of the series.

Via Celtics Stats: “Jayson Tatum passed Kobe Bryant tonight for most playoff points in NBA history before turning 27.” Tatum finished the game with 2,711. And he’s got many more to play.

Jayson Tatum Has Nothing Left To Prove: Face Of The NBA?

There’s been plenty of discussion about the face of the NBA. There have been many candidates offered, from Anthony Edwards to Luka Doncic, who played in this series.

Tatum, just 26 years old, with an NBA championship under his belt and a long career ahead definitely is a strong contender for that title. He and Brown are the top tandem in the NBA, and they aren’t in their primes yet. If they stay together, they have a chance to do something special for a franchise that has seen dynasties, special moments, titles and the best players to ever do it.

The dynamic duo combined for 31 points on 12-of-25 shooting in first half of the Game 5 clincher.

Tatum finished with 31 points, eight rebounds, 11 assists. Brown added 21 points eight rebounds six assists.

Brown won the Finals MVP award, as he was the more consistent scorer over the five game series, although Tatum averaged more points (22 ppg). Brown averaged 20.8 ppg, 5.4 rebounds and 5 assists on 44 percent shooting. He also made several key defensive plays that stopped runs and turned the tide of some close games.

As the seconds ticked off the clock, Tatum was emotional, with hands in head. The win is everything. He’ll get another chance to win NBA finals MVP. Hopefully, next season.

For now, Tatum answered all of the questions. There’s nothing better than an athlete who can kill a narrative with his performance and rise above the limitations people set for them and prove that they are special.

The questions and the doubt are gone. Is Jayson Tatum truly elite? Yes. And he didn’t need to average 30 points or put up a bunch of shots to prove it. He played winning basketball. How champions play.

“I Can’t Control The Refs. They Affected the Game A Lot”: Angel Reese Made A Bad Move By Criticizing Refs As Rookie of the Year Candidate On 4-9 Team

Sports is better with a hero and a villain, and in all of her greatness, Angel Reese has decided to fully embrace her arch-nemesis of Caitlin Clark persona and potentially take it to the bank. Even if it means blasting the referees after a tough loss.

Reese played another professional game for the Chicago Sky in the team’s 88-83 loss to Caitlin Clark’s Indian Fever.

Unfortunately, her personal foul on a driving Caitlin Clark resulted in a flagrant 1, and the concentration of coverage on that one play totally tainted a well-played, competitive game on both sides.

Angel Reese Averages a Double-Double

Reese leads all rookies in double-doubles. She’s averaging 12.1 points and 10.2 rebounds per contest this season and shooting 37.1 percent from the floor. She’s also averaging 2.1 assists and 1.8 steals.

Reese has a six-game double-double streak going as well, which lets you know that her game is a combination of power and finesse that few can duplicate.

Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese spent most of her loss to Caitlin Clark’s Indiana Fever in foul trouble. She blamed the referees for affecting the outcome of the game. (Photos: Getty Images)

Averaging a double-double is no small feat in the WNBA, where physicality has never been a curse word — unless you foul Caitlin Clark.

Reese, Kardoso, Clark Cornerstones Of Future Championship Contenders

Let’s remember that the Chicago Sky and Indiana Fever were the two worst teams in the Eastern Conference last season.

Both teams purposely brought in top rookies to become the cornerstones to future success. These girls didn’t have the luxury of a Kate Martin who joined the two-time defending champion Aces with three Olympians and all-time greats on it already. They didn’t have the luxury of a Cameron Brink or Rickea Jackson to join a team with established veterans like Kia Nurse, Lexi Brown and MVP candidate Dearica Hamby in LA.

Angel Reese (No. 7 overall pick) and Kamilla Cardoso (No. 3 overall) were the foundational pieces to new coach Teresa Weatherspoon’s revamped team culture.

In an era where perimeter shooting is the main offensive objective of most pro hoops teams, T-Spoon is building around her post players, in hopes of grabbing that explosive guard and the pieces to put around them in the future. Fortifying the front line and establishing a defensive mentality is a great place to start.

For now, they have to scrap and scrape and learn the league and develop relationships with the ref. Those are things that will make Reese, a strong contender for WNBA Rookie of the Year, an even better player going forward.

Angel Reese Is A Rookie That Shouldn’t Be Criticizing Refs

Complaining about the calls definitely wasn’t a smart move.

“A basketball play. It was a basketball play,” Reese said. “I can’t control the refs. They affected the game obviously a lot tonight.” Reese was adamant officials were not calling the same game on both ends of the floor. The Sky were called for 21 personal fouls as a team, while the Fever were whistled for 17. Reese and Cardoso had five fouls. A piece

“I think we went up really strong a lot of times, and we didn’t get a lot of calls,” Reese explained when asked about her and Cardoso’s performances. “Going back and looking at the film, I’ve seen a lot of calls that weren’t made. I guess some people got a special whistle. But just being able to play hard as best as we.”

Reese doesn’t have to address the officials at all. We are not even halfway through the season. She can’t get caught up in what people on social media and other divisive forces will say.

Be A Villain, But Stay Cool With The Stripes

There’s plenty of basketball remaining on the schedule. Stay focused on developing that chemistry with Cardoso. That’s the future. That’s what it’s really about. Imagine if they get a chance to add JuJu Watkins in 2026 or Paige Bueckers in 2025.

Black Celebrities Show Support to Top Female Basketball Recruit Juju Watkins Over the Weekend

Then that team is all the way up. This is just the beginning, so having grace and establishing yourself as a player who respects the refs and understands how the game is played is very important.

Put the reality TV stuff to the side. Keep the smiles on. Be tough and exact, but don’t cop pleas. It’s OK to just get beat. Grace. Even a “Baddie” is graceful is her defeat. Especially when she knows the next win is around the corner.

Caitlin Clark Gave Reese A Pass On The Flagrant Foul

Clark could have incited a riot if she chose to hype the situation as malicious or with intention. Instead, she kept the gas off the fire and downplayed the foul as being a part of the game.

Clark on the foul: “It’s just part of basketball. It is what it is. Trying to make a play on the ball, get the block. I mean, it happens.”

It is what it is. Clark never blames the refs when she has a bad game, or she thinks she’s fouled. She will address them more directly during the game about it. She’s definitely not shy to show her emotions on the court. And she’s no choir girl.

Geno Auriemma Says Caitlin Clark Not Built For Physical WNBA

UConn legendary coach Geno Auriemma acknowledges as much when asked about Clark and the way she’s handling her meteoric rise to fame while adjusting to the pros.

“I think she’s handling it great,” Auriemma said. “I think she talks a lot of s—, and she gets a lot of s— back. She deserves everything she gets because she gives it as good as she gets it. She’s just not built for the physicality of this league, and she’s not quick enough to get away from the physicality.”

Right now, Clark is just a pup, and she will get stronger and more familiar with the pace of the league. That comes with time. For now, her splits 15/6/5 say she’s a weapon on the rise.

Angel Reese doesn’t lack physicality. Her reputation often precedes her. Clark, however, has also rolled with the punches and her grit suggests Auriemma is wrong and she is a tough cookie as well.

With their early-season performances, there’s no question that Reese and Clark will be the lead contenders for WNBA Rookie of the Year in 2024.

“I think there’s been a lot of talk about women’s basketball. It’s a big thing. It’s huge. But what you want to be spoken about is the game,” Sky coach Teresa Weatherspoon said at a pregame news conference. “The skill, the talent, versatility, how hard we play. What they have to do to be able to step between those four lines all the time. And to talk about the competitors. They’re out there to compete and go win.”

Moving away from the love or hate theme with these women and focusing on accolades and accomplishments is something Weatherspoon wants to highlight going forward.

‘He’s Getting Paid Off Promise, Not Production’: Emmanuel Acho Says Trevor Lawrence $275M Extension Is A Reward For Career at Clemson

Emmanuel Ocho is buying Trevor Lawrence’s $275M contract.

The quarterback market in the NFL has ballooned to right around $55 million to $ 60 million per season for a starting signal-caller. Over the couple months we’ve seen the Cincinnati Bengals give Joe Burrow a deal that made him the highest-paid quarterback in the league at $55 million per season.

Not long before that the Detroit Lions paid Jared Goff handsomely at $53 million per season. Prior to last season the Baltimore Ravens signed two-time and reigning NFL MVP Lamar Jackson to a massive extension that pays him $52 million per season.

Emmanuel Ocho thinks Trevor Lawrence got his $275M contract based on what he did at Clemson and not in his inconsistent pro career. (Photo: Getty Images)

Trevor Lawrence Latest QB To Get Paid Top Dollar Without Winning Big

Following a runner-up MVP and run to the Super Bowl in 2023, the Philadelphia Eagles blessed Jalen Hurts with a huge extension that pays him $51 million per season. What do all of them have in common? They’ve led their respective teams to either a Super Bowl or conference championship game.

That’s exactly what the Jacksonville Jaguars are hoping 2021 No. 1 overall pick Trevor Lawrence can do after they made him the highest-paid quarterback in the league with a five-year, $275 million deal with $200 million guaranteed and $142 million guaranteed at signing. His annual salary of $55 million per season tied him with the aforementioned Burrow.

But did the Jaguars move too fast in signing Lawrence, who’s headed into his fourth NFL season with his fifth-year option still available?

FS1s Emmanuel Acho Believes Jaguars Were Desperate With $55M Per Trevor Lawrence Deal

Following the announcement of Lawrence’s newfound wealth, Acho a brutally honest analyst on Fox Sports’ “Speak”, questioned why the Jags felt the need to pay Lawrence right now when he has so much more to prove.

“Trev is not getting paid for what he’s done in the NFL. He’s getting paid for what he did in Clemson,” Acho said. “Because what he did at Clemson allowed us to think his marvelous upside, upside that we have not seen on a consistent basis. We’ve seen it at times. No doubt about it, like Shady McCoy’s talked about it, Dave’s talked about it. We’ve seen flashes but you cannot pay a quarterback $55 million a year because of flashes.”

“You got to pay him for what he does consistently,” Acho added. “If Trevor Lawrence was drafted where Brock Purdy was drafted, he likely would be a backup. But he was drafted No. 1 overall and he was heralded as one of the most talented prospects that we’ve seen since Andrew Luck. As a result, he’s the highest-paid quarterback on an average annual value in the National Football League.”

Trevor Lawrence Was Solid But Not Sensational

Acho is correct, Lawrence’s first three seasons didn’t seem to earn a contract from the Jaguars that makes him the highest-paid QB in the league.

Sporting a record of 20-30 as a starter with just over 11,770 passing yards, 58 touchdowns and 39 interceptions with a completion percentage of 63 percent does not scream “new mega deal.”

Especially with him under team control for the next two seasons, maybe the Jaguars should’ve let this upcoming season play out before signing him to such a massive deal.

Not All Is On Lawrence, But He Needs To Show Consistency

Lawrence’s rookie season was awful, but most of that was because of former head coach Urban Meyer who was fired 13 games into the season. Year 2 Lawrence showed marked improvement with 25 touchdowns and just eight interceptions in leading the Jaguars to the second-largest comeback playoff win and within one possession of beating the Kansas City Chiefs in the divisional round.

Year 3 was supposed to be Lawrence’s true breakout season. With wide receiver Calvin Ridley joining the team, the offense was expected to go to new heights.

At times they showed flashes, but Lawrence’s play was erratic, and a late-season high ankle sprain ended up costing the Jaguars a playoff spot as they went into a tailspin, going from 8-3 and first in the AFC to 9-8 and missing the playoffs on the final day of the season.

Lawrence finished 2023 with 21 touchdown passes and 14 interceptions. The team finished the season on a five-game losing streak that saw Lawrence toss nine touchdowns but also seven interceptions. Not exactly a recipe for success.

Jags Trying To Get Ahead Of Steadily Rising QB Market?

This move seems as if the Jags are doing it so it isn’t more come next or the following season. Which in many ways is understandable from a business standpoint, but Lawrence hasn’t earned this money, and, as Acho said, it’s more about his play at Clemson and hope the Jags have for him going forward.

White Twitter Celebrates Caitlin Clark “Owning” Angel Reese: The Iowa Product Almost Messed Around and Got A Triple-Double and Is 2-0 Against “Chi Barbie”

A sold-out crowd poured in to watch the most anticipated WNBA game of the weekend featuring the two most publicized WNBA players, rookie Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese. Clark immediately took a leadership role on her Fever squad, which improved to 5-10 with the win.

Reese and Cardoso are finding a rhythm as the Twin Towers and both are proving to be double-double machines.

Reese finished the game with 11 points and 13 rebounds to go along with five assists and two steals. Cardoso had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Sky, who dropped to 4-9 on the season.

Both teams have surely had growing pains, and the rookies have had to carry a huge burden night in and night out while being covered by the media like 10-year established legends and trying to learn the ropes at the highest level of women’s basketball that exists on the planet.

Reese only shot 4 of 13 from the floor, and foul trouble stopped her from being as aggressive as she normally would be on both sides of the ball, especially as the second half progressed. Reese didn’t get her first points of the second half until one minute left in the game, but it was a big shot to cut into the Fever lead late.

Cailtin Clark Almost Messed Around And Got A Triple Double

Clark had a near triple-double and did most of her damage early in the game, racking up 23 points, eight rebounds and nine assists in nearly 37 minutes of action. She was energized for this game against Reese, and her team desperately needed a win.

Clark’s shooting splits skyrocketed in this game. She was an efficient 7-for-11 from the field (63.6 percent) and she was 3 of 7 from three, which is a 42.8 percent clip. Both numbers much higher than her season averages, which remain in the low 30s.

Of course, Clark’s performance and Reese’s L inspired the CC side representing White Twitter to go in on the Chicago Sky rookie, who played a passionate and respectful game.

Reese Hit With Flagrant Foul For Hitting Clark In Head

There was one classic moment when Clark drove to the hoop in the third quarter and Reese blocked her shot and Clark flew to the ground. Reese was assessed a flagrant foul after hitting Clark in the head and sending her sprawling to the hardwood, although some angles show it was a remarkable effort by Reese, who appeared to block it clean.

You can’t deny that these rookies know how to give the people what they want and incite emotion. Reese always seems to end up being the villain to some and a hero to others.

Kelsey Mitchell and Caitlin Clark Developing Lethal Chemistry

It was a battle of two bottom-rung squads with players who will be very much a part of the WNBA’s future and play on more than their share of winning teams. In the end, all of the highly touted and highly publicized rookies needed the veterans to take the lead and determine the fate of the game.

TOP TAKE: This is the most balanced I have seen Kelsey Mitchell (17 points) and Caitlin Clark as a tandem. Sometimes their styles clash, with them both being very offensive-minded. Against Chicago, the players seemed to be in unison offensively. When one had the hot hand, the other concentrated on different responsibilities.

After a dry spell for Clark in the third and into the fourth quarter (with Mitchell and Boston keeping the Fever ahead in the game) the No. 1 overall pick displayed the clutch gene that elevated her to prominence at Iowa when she hit a dagger three in the fourth quarter with 3 minutes left to give the Fever its biggest lead of seven points. Until that point, the momentum was shifting in Chicago’s favor.

Clark exploded very demonstratively after that three. She was not just celebrating, but exhaling a bit because this was probably her best game of the season as far as efficiency goes and working with her team to get a win.

Larry Bird vs Magic Johnson WNBA Theme Works

After her slow start, Aliyah Boston is putting together back-to-back All-Star level games in the post. The Fever needed her to perform against the Sky’s two-headed monster and she came through with 19 points and 14 rebounds.

The records don’t reflect it, but neither team is a squad any of the elite teams are anxious to face. Both are scrappy, well-coached and have dynamic rookies who are probably at the lowest points of production that they will ever be at in their careers.

The ratings will show that the WNBA’s version of Larry Bird vs. Magic Johnson is a great theme to ride. Next time, we hope the refs can be a bit less liberal with their use of whistles so we can see Angel Reese on the court and able to play to her full capacity.

Clark is now 2-0 against Reese in WNBA competition.

‘Men Don’t Have to Think’: Tennis Star Sloane Stephens Wants A Baby With Soccer Star Hubby But Doesn’t Think It’s Fair To Have To Give Up Her Career

Tennis star Sloane Stephens enjoys womanhood, but there are times when she’s playing pro tennis and pondering her career choices, that she wouldn’t mind being a man. Giving birth is at the top of the list.

Sloane Stephens Wants To Have Baby Some Day

During a recent interview with “Today,” Stephens opened up about her opinions on building a family of her own and how monumental a decision it is for any woman, but especially one in the middle of her career.

Sloane Stephens says it's unfair that a woman has to give up her career to have a baby and a man doesn't. (Photo: Getty Images)

Problem is, there’s also a biological clock for having kids. The time off required after you give birth and the effect that time off can have on a burgeoning career is something that women athletes always have to consider and work through.

The WTA star said, “I’m thinking of having a family one day, it’s best to be proactive, obviously in professional sports, all of the girls I play with are also like me.”

Candace Parker: WNBA Stardom vs. Childbirth

Candace Parker won WNBA MVP and Rookie of the Year in ’08. She was the next WNBA GOAT and the league was prepared to market her as such. Parker married NBA player Sheldon Williams in 2008 and their daughter Lailaa Nicole Williams was born on May 13, 2009.

News of Parker’s pregnancy was a huge dose of reality for the WNBA and the fans. She played just 25 of 33 games in 2009 and then she played just 27 games the next two seasons. Her 16-year career is still littered with historical accomplishments but those games she missed was a significant blow to the L.A. Sparks franchise, who won a title with her as a rookie and the future face of the league.

Some say the WNBA never forgave CP, and you always heard rumblings from players over the years about being told straight up by teams and coaches and players not to get pregnant.

Sloane Stephens Still Enjoys Playing and Traveling

Most women see childbirth as the ultimate gift. But professions like sports, where you are on the grind every day, traveling and competing for huge stakes, can be roadblocks to having a child at an age that most women desire.

Seven years ago, Serena Williams secured her final Grand Slam title after winning the Australian Open while secretly pregnant, so balancing the two and still participating in major tournaments are possible.

“I love traveling,” Sloane explained. “Just seeing the world and experiencing, obviously when I stop playing tennis, I won’t have the same opportunities to see the world. Just enjoying it and trying to stay as young as possible.”

Stephens, 31, is not a young woman in terms of her window for playing world class tennis and having a low-risk pregnancy. She realizes this more than anyone and it’s weighing on her mind.

“It’s ticking,” Stephens said of her biological clock.

Sloane Stephens Is Married To Soccer Player Jozy Altidore

Stephens is married to Jozy Altidore, a Major League Soccer player from the United States. They exchanged nuptials on Jan. 1, 2022, at the St. Regis Bal Harbour in Miami Beach, Florida. According to reports, she and New England Revolution striker had been together on and off since childhood.

Stephens was honest about how men are free from most consequences or physical strain when it comes to starting their own family.

She said, “Playing professional sports…everyone is thinking about the same thing whereas men don’t have to think about it. They kind of can do whatever they want.”

She’s alluding to the planning a woman must do even after she finds out she’s pregnant. After two years of marriage, Stephens seems very ready to embark on a next phase in life. In womanhood.

Pro Tennis Players Must Plan Ahead To Have Baby: Egg Freezing Is An Option

She continued, “Women have to be more strategic, they have to plan ahead, they have to be proactive.”

It’s not as if Stephens is totally missing out on the joy of motherhood, as she is already on the job as stepmom to Cameron, 9, Altidore’s child from a past relationship.

Who knows when Stephens and Altidore will take the next step. According to the interview, they haven’t even taken a honeymoon yet.

“Work gets in the way sometimes,” Stephens said. We’ve both been working crazy schedules and, as I said, I travel so much. We said we’re going to do something. I just don’t know what.”

Sloane Stephens Worth $30M: Thinks It’s Unfair To Give Up Career For Baby

At the end of the day it’s clear that Stephens loves her current lifestyle and wants to enjoy every minute and use all of her energy and time to maximize her performance on the court for as long as she can. She’s not willing to give up her dream and she isn’t enthralled with the reality that she would have to be the one to put her career on hold if a baby comes into the picture.

“And I think it’s not fair to give up our career to want to have a family. You can want both and have both. It’s just that you have to be really strategic,” Stephens explained.

Stephens, who won her only major at the 2017 U.S. Open over Serena Williams in Flushing, Queens, also has won eight WTA titles. From then on, she’s chased the bag.

She’s an accomplished tennis player with an estimated $30 million net worth. So, when she has her baby, she will be able to hire as much help as she needs to be able to arrange her life in a positive way.

NFL Player Terrell Lewis Chased Down Hallway By Naked Escort After He Tried To ‘Smash and Dash’

On Saturday, OnlyFans model MIA💞 on X posted an explicit video of a woman with tattoos on her body chasing a man down a hallway in a hotel.

He was running, well, like he stole something! To her credit, the jilted sex worker probably ran track in high school because she wasn’t far behind the NFL player.

FOX Sports radio host Rob Parker told TSL, “It looked like a common smash and dash.”

Which is when a “customer” tries to run out on a bill.

Terrell Lewis Signed $1.05M Contract

If this is all true, and the video footage suggests it is, then Lewis could possibly be cut. It’s an even worse look considering Terrell Lewis signed a 1 year , $1,055,000 contract with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2024.

The video includes a naked woman chasing after a man she alleges to be Lewis with the caption “We got a runner”.

NFL Player Terrell Lewis Robs Sex Worker?

Mia Mercy alleges that the sheisty individual in the video is former Alabama and current Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Terrell Lewis. She tagges him and tagged several coaches on his former team, the LA Chargers.

After the incident, Lewis went private on social media.

The former five-star, top-100 prospect from St. John’s High School in Washington, D.C signed with Nick Saban’s and Alabama in 2016, significant contributions to the programs’ 2017 College Football Playoff National Championship win over the Georgia Bulldogs. Lewis came through with a crucial sack of Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm in overtime.

Lewis finished his collegiate career with 58 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, eight sacks, three pass breakups, and one forced fumble in 26 games played at Alabama, before being drafted No. 84 (Round 3) by the Los Angeles Rams in the 2020 NFL draft.

Lewis Injury Prone

He was also a member of the Rams team that won Super Bowl LVI. He  signed with the Philadelphia Eagles during the 2024 Free Agency cycle and is currently a member of the team.

Since the moment Terrell Lewis was drafted by the Rams in the third round in 2020, he’s been labeled as a high-risk player due to his injury history in college.

Those concerns carried into the NFL. In his first two seasons, he played just 19 games, missing time due to a knee injury and also as a healthy scratch in 2021.

Offer The IG Star A 10-Day Contract: She Has Closing Speed

It’s good to see that the knee looks great as far as his acceleration and mobility. Lewis hightailed it out of that hotel room like he scooped a fumble recovery down 3 with 0 second left on the clock and nothing but green grass and pay dirt in his sights. Eagles will be happy to know he’s healthy.

On the flip side, this world class athlete — 6-foot-5 and 265 pounds of pure muscle – was almost tracked down by a naked woman in her bare feet.  That hallway is a straightaway just like what they run on during the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine

Hopefully she gets her money back and if I’m Philly I’m offering her a 10-day contract.

‘Daddy Ball Was Being Played’: Insider Reports Colorado Players Hit Transfer Portal After Coach Prime Made Team Attend Lil Wayne Concert

The Colorado Buffaloes are prepping for their season opener against FCS power and nine-time champion North Dakota State.

Pro Football Hall of Famer and Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders is taking his team back into the Big 12, a conference they left in 2011.

Per usual there is a lot of hype in and around Boulder where Sanders has completely overhauled the roster from when he first arrived in December 2022.

As a player Sanders was always one with a flair for the dramatic, and that hasn’t changed as a coach.

Last year’s anticipation for the season saw the spring game set records as fans packed Folsom Field in a sellout to see what the legendary defensive back had cooked up. In an attempt to top last year’s festivities, Sanders made this one a full weekend of events, which even featured rapper Lil Wayne, who performed.

Nearly 30,000 fans showed up this time around as the team went through roughly an hour of work, and one could see the talent level has gotten drastically better, but per reports not all of the players were excited about the weekend.

Did Coach Prime Make Lil Wayne Concert Mandatory?

Following the game the Buffaloes saw more players hop in the transfer portal. Per Steve Corder of Athlon Sports, those players did so because Coach Prime made them attend the Lil Wayne show which also featured star quarterback and son of Sanders, Shedeur, making his rap debut.

“The Wayne concert was the final straw for a few players who hit the transfer portal,” a source told Corder. “When Coach Prime told us we all had to be there to support Shedeur as a rapper, they were not happy at all. To be honest, it was nothing but a huge distraction, and Daddy Ball was being played.”

This isn’t the first time the Daddy Ball rumors have surfaced out of Boulder, but this one may be the hardest to believe. Sanders making his players go listen to his son rap, just doesn’t sound right.
q

Coach Prime’s oldest son Deion Jr., quickly defended his dad, the man behind the Buffaloes multimedia and social media sites took to X to say this.

“Bro this is hilarious. They basically said he forcing people to listen to his son’s mixtapes. Dawg this is next-level funny.”

Coach Prime Fires Back

Sanders, who’s come under fire for a multitude of things as it pertains to his program, following a 4-8 season took to X himself to call the story fake.

“This is one of the best lies I’ve heard. God bless you and I hope you sleep well tonight because we are. Lawd JESUS.”

Huge Season Ahead For Buffaloes

Having upgraded the roster via the transfer portal, the Buffaloes are expected to be much better this season. With an upgraded offensive line that should keep Sanders upright (he was sacked an NCAA-leading 52 times) last season the belief is the Buffaloes offense should really take off in year two. Coach Prime also upgraded his defensive line that last season couldn’t stop the run or rush the passer. Those two things alone should help the Buffaloes improve on their four-win season in 2023.

Shedeur is a Heisman candidate and he’ll have ample opportunities this season to show he’s worthy of the hype.

‘It’s Because They Can’t Do What You Do’ | Tennis Legend Serena Williams Shows Support For Caitlin Clark Amidst Firestorm Of Controversy

Another day and another Caitlin Clark headline, only this time it’s legendary tennis star Serena Williams giving the embattled No. 1 pick some quality advice and support.

Williams, the winner of 23 tennis Grand Slams (one shy of the all-time record) faced her fair share of criticism and backlash throughout her illustrious playing career. But Williams didn’t let it affect her play, and she’ll be the first to tell you having people like big sister Venus and the legendary Billie Jean King speak on her behalf did wonders for her confidence.

Williams, who’s now retired, is attempting to do the same for Clark, who’s been under fire from her peers around the WNBA. Speaking from the premiere of her docuseries, “In The Arena: Serena Williams,” at New York’s famous Tribeca Festival, Williams didn’t hold back in her praise for Clark and how she’s handled herself amidst the firestorm of events that have come her way since she was drafted No. 1 overall.

Williams Provides Sound Advice And Support

As Williams migrated her way through the red carpet she stopped to talk about Clark. She quickly advised Clark to “keep doing what you’re doing.”

“I just love that she tried to stay grounded and that she doesn’t … look at her social media. I get it. I don’t either. And I think it’s so important to continue doing what she’s doing.”

Williams then fired some shots at those who’ve taken shots at Clark, stating that the negativity toward her stems from jealousy.

“And no matter what other people do, if people are negative then it’s because they can’t do what you do … basically. And hopefully she’ll continue to do what’s she’s doing,” Williams added.

Sound advice from greatest tennis player ever (male or female), and it’s highly plausible that Clark takes heed to it.

Clark Has Been Under Constant Attack

Williams assessment is correct, Clark has been under constant attack nightly, and the physicality opposing teams and players have used against her at times been borderline dirty. While it’s not surprising considering Clark’s natural ability and continually growing popularity, a lot of it’s still unnecessary. In late May Clark spoke about the physical defense that everyone is playing against her.

“I think everybody is physical with me,” she said. “They get away with things that probably other people don’t get away with.”

In many ways it looks the type of defense teams are playing against Clark is reminiscent of a decisive Game 7, not a regular-season matchup. But, as Serena told her, just keep being her and doing what she does, which is something she’s done each game.

Despite her shooting struggles, Clark is averaging 15.6 points and six assists per game. She’s also second in three-pointers made this season with 37 makes.

‘People Shouldn’t Be Using My Name To Push Those Agendas’: Did Stephen A. Smith Call Caitlin Clark A Weapon Of Mass Destruction For Trump Supporters?

Recently Indiana Fever rookie sensation Caitlin Clark was asked about her name being “weaponized” in conversations and narratives that have nothing to do with sports.

“It’s not something that I can control, so I don’t put too much thought and time into thinking about things like that,” Clark told reporters. “People can talk about what they want to talk about, create conversations about whatever it is. But I think for myself, I’m just here to play basketball.

“My focus is on my teammates, they’ve been amazing. I don’t think it’s impacted me making relationships on my team.

She said people can talk about what they want to talk about, and Stephen A. Smith, clearly a card-carrying member of the Democratic Party, punched his ticket to a stage appearance at the Democratic National Convention at the expense of Clark, a continued target of the media.

“She’s a white young lady and she’s been a magnet in a way that has benefitted the league in a way that others have not even though their efforts are as worthy or deserving of being celebrated if not even more celebrated,” Smith said.

“And it’s a reminder that no matter how far we believe we have advanced as a society, we have a long way to go,” he added. “Because in the end if you’re white, you’re bright, you’re right and as a result the shine comes your way in the eyes of a lot of people in America.”

Smith continued as Chiney Ogwumike looked on and nodded slightly every now and then.

“Very uncomfortable to touch on. … You have somebody who’s a presidential candidate. What is his claim to fame? Make America great again. What have people interpreted that to mean? Make America white again,” Smith explained.

“He has his supporters spanning the tens of millions. There are those on the other side…what has led to a divide.”

Then Smith suggested Clark was a “plant” by the “opposing” side.

“It’s you, the prop, that is being utilized to address a bigger point,” Smith said.

Then Smith started ranting about outskirt places in America, where they don’t want to change and Dr. Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks.

“It was orchestrated and plotted and planned because bigger issues needed to be addressed but the right person came along to give us the license to address it,” Smith said.

“The fact that she is a young white lady, and the world has gravitated to her in a way they have done for no one else in the 28-year history of the WNBA. Is just further evidence of the times we … been living in.”

Caitlin Clark Responds To Being Used As Tool Of Divisiveness

The internet exploded and it got back to Clark pretty quickly. She responded when asked directly about people using her name to promote agendas.

This entire Clark circus has gotten out of control. They won’t just let her ball. It’s a monster you can’t even say she wanted, or maybe she did when she accepted that $28M Nike deal.

Make what you will of Stephen A. Smith’s rant. Like he said, there’s people on one side that will agree with him and then there are those who nearly vomit at the thought of him speaking on TV.

Either way, Smith’s claim that some force of nature is using Clark as a divisive tool to address larger issues in a race or political war is suspicious.

It’s truly become a soap opera and it’s pretty sad that Caitlin Clark has to be asked questions of this nature when she’s trying to play basketball.

CC Has Been Balling Since March and Dealing With Exploding Brand

Clark looks tired and at times very frustrated. But it’s less what’s happening on the court and more of the drama going on around her. She’s been hooping since March and played 39 college games.

Then she had to kick off the pomp and circumstances surrounding the draft and the oversaturation of Clark coverage that she in no way sought out.

“They Should Just Let The Girl Play Basketball”: NFL Star George Kittle On Caitlin Clark’s Rookie Hazing and WNBA Controversy

She was simply the greatest scorer in women’s NCAA hoops history, and she was white with a ponytail and from Iowa, dominating a predominantly Black sport. It gets no more middle America legend than that, so naturally she captivated a larger audience.

Naturally, the Larry Bird comparisons developed. Her college battles with Angel Reese transcended basketball and elevated Clark to a new dimension.

Then came the WNBA draft and an increased media rush. In between that circus, WNBA veterans started getting at her and warning her about what lies ahead.

The season has been rough. Her team has lost 60 percent of its games. She’s had her moments, and with so many pulling for and rooting against her, it’s amazing she has performed as well as she has.

She’s an American idol off the court, but not yet a superstar on it. Her shooting percentages leave a lot to be desired, but if you assess how she’s handling herself in the midst of this historical phenomenon, sh*it could be much worse.

Caitlin Clark’s First 30-Point Scoring Game and Angel Reese’s First Career Double-Double Set Up June 1 Matchup That Could Break WNBA Ratings Records

How Long Can Clark Deal With The Noise?

You do have to ask yourself how long she can withstand all of the divisiveness,  the dissections, questions and overall chaos, while trying to achieve her best on the court.

A’ja Wilson is a level of great that Clark would love to get to, but she will need laser focus to do it and the current atmosphere is in no way conducive.

The Aces star recently became the first player in WNBA history to score at least 25 points in eight consecutive games.

Moreover, Wilson extended her streak of most consecutive games of 20 points or more to 16 by dropping 32 points in a close win over the Phoenix Mercury. She now has 11 career games with at least 30 points and 10 rebounds, which is tied for fourth-most in WNBA history.

Wilson was also highly touted but never had to deal with the madness Clark has had to endure. Clark wants to be a basketball god. Anybody that good is a hoops nerd, not a movie star. At least not at first. Society wants her to be a celebrity idol.

‘That’s Just Ridiculous’: Austin Rivers Hated The Cast Of “Clipped.” He Even Body-Shamed Actor Lawrence Fishburne

You had to figure that the Hulu series “Clipped” would have a few critics here and there.

The loudest critic has been ESPN basketball analyst and former NBA player Austin Rivers — who is also the son of former Los Angeles Clippers coach and player Doc Rivers.

Then again, since he got into his seat of his “Off Guard” podcast Rivers has been speaking freely and creating controversy with his takes.

He’s another in a long line of NBA players whose celebrity makes people listen to the highly uninteresting and clout-chasing things they have to say on their podcast.

Shared on Instagram Monday, Rivers said the actor who played Warriors point guard Steph Curry is “like a third baseman for the Padres, adding, ‘Who the hell is that guy?’”

Austin Rivers went on his podcast to blast the cast of Hulu’s “Clipped” series, including legendary actor Lawrence Fishburne who played his Dad, Doc Rivers. (Photo: Getty Images)

Rivers clearly didn’t like the casting for the movie, which is always a point of conversation when a movie drops featuring actors portraying well-known celebrities.

Austin Rivers Didn’t Like Cast Of Hulu “Clipped” Series

Viewers tend to be more critical, especially if the people being portrayed are alive now and in their primes.

The actors who played NBA stars Chris Paul and Klay Thompson didn’t float Rivers’ boat either.

“That’s just ridiculous. There’s no effort in this,” Rivers said.

To say there was no effort in the casting is a public criticism of the movie production and everyone involved.

Most people would be honored to have Laurence Fishburne portray them in a movie.

Doc Rivers was most likely very excited to hear that one of the best actors of this generation would portray him in “Clipped”

Austin Rivers wasn’t feeling it and explained why: “First off, Laurence Fishburne is a legend, and he’s a great actor. The body of my father is just a little bit different. I’m not saying he’s 100% in shape, but he’s built a little different than Laurence Fishburne. We could’ve done a little AI or something there.”

Lawrence Fishburne Didn’t Know Who Doc Rivers Was

While Austin Rivers felt free to comment on the quality of the cast, Fishburne claims in an interview with Dan Patrick that he didn’t even know who Doc Rivers was.

“As I told you, I’m not a sports fan,” Fishburne said.

Some fans agreed with Rivers’ take. Others used backhanded compliments to troll Rivers, whose claim to social media fame is that he only made the NBA because his dad was a legendary coach. Rivers has lived with that narrative his entire life despite being a serviceable NBA player thoughout his career.

Of course, some natural-born haters agree with Rivers.

Others made a light reference to Rivers’ high privilege and low hoops skill.

“This is the best thing austin rivers has ever done,” one said.

But some took the opportunity to openly disagree.

A second IG user wrote, “The show is good. Nobody expected clones of the people involved. Just whining for content and clinging to whatever your daddy does.”

The FX series, which debuted on Hulu on June 4, tells the well-documented story of former Clipper’s owner Donald Sterling’s downfall after released audio of him making racist remarks to his side piece.

The scandal made headlines in 2014 after Sterling’s assistant and side piece V. Stiviano leaked tape in which Sterling was going ballistic on her for taking a photo with Lakers legend Magic Johnson.

In the audio, Sterling said, “It bothers me a lot that you want to broadcast that you’re associating with Black people. Do you have to? You can sleep with [Black people]. You can bring them in, you can do whatever you want. The little I ask you is not to promote it on that … and not to bring them to my games.”

In the same tape, he later told Stiviano, “I’m just saying that it’s too bad you can’t admire him privately, and during your entire f–king life – your whole life — admire him, bring him here, feed him, f–k him, I don’t care. You can do anything. But don’t put him on Instagram for the world to have to see so they have to call me. And don’t bring him to my games. OK?”

His comments rocked the NBA because although it was no secret that Donald Sterling was a friend of systemic racism, the world, his players, the media, have never seen him in action or heard how he truly feels about the many Black players he employs.

When the audio hit the mainstream it blew up and eventually Clippers players and the rest of the NBA were on the brink of boycotting the playoffs if Sterling wasn’t removed as owner.

In an unprecedented move new NBA commissioner Adam Silver wasted no time forcing Sterling to sell the team and disassociating the billionaire with the NBA.

The Almost Boycott Of 2014

The Great NBA Boycott of 2014 will go down in sports mythology alongside UNLV’s boycott of the ’91 national championship game and the 1964 All-Star Game as one of the grandest near-boycotts of the past half-century. We’ll never know whether or not NBA commissioner Adam Silver banned Donald Sterling for life because of his own outrage or if the players pressured him into taking a step more severe than anyone else imagined he’d take. However, the Warriors reportedly were fully prepared to go through warmups, introductions and then walk off the floor after the tip-off in protest  if Sterling weren’t punished to the fullest extent of the NBA’s bylaws.

Via San Jose Mercury News:

“It would have been our only chance to make a statement in front of the biggest audience that we weren’t going to accept anything but the maximum punishment,” Curry said. “We would deal with the consequences later but we were not going to play.”

Things probably wouldn’t even have gotten that far if Silver had taken a different path. Clippers point guard Chris Paul is the NBPA president and after Sterling’s ban was announced, NBPA Vice President Roger Mason said that the remaining playoff teams were also prepared for a league-wide boycott that would have included the Clippers.

Sterling’s reign of racism started rearing its ugly head in 2006 when the Department of Justice sued Sterling for housing discrimination, alleging Sterling wouldn’t rent apartments he owned to Black or Hispanic people. He also wouldn’t rent to people with children.

Historically, Sterling being a white billionaire and looking down upon others was nothing new at the time, but what made the moment significant is that it represented a new age in the NBA. Where players empowered themselves to strike back against any forms of perceived racism or discrimination. They forced corporate’s hand and ushered in a new era of player activism throughout sports.

‘I Don’t Need Leverage Here’: Danny Hurley Disputes Notion That He Used Lakers To Leverage More Money From UCONN

Late last week Connecticut Huskies head coach Danny Hurley was believed to be the next head coach of the now-dysfunctional Los Angeles Lakers. After meeting with the Lakers last Friday, Hurley opted to stay in Storrs and chase a three-peat. Despite the Lakers offering him a six-year, $70 million deal, Hurley decided to stay put and continue to chase history at the college level.

Late Thursday reports said that Hurley and UConn officials were finalizing a six-year, $50 million extension for the 51-year-old sideline-stalker who’s led the Huskies to back-to-back national championships. The deal would make Hurley the third-highest paid coach in college basketball trailing only Kansas’ Bills Self and Arkansas first-year coach John Calipari.

While, Hurley definitely deserves the raises which saw his salary increase from just over $5 million to better than $8 million, conspiracy theorists believe Hurley used the Lakers to leverage a bigger deal from UConn.

Hurley Attempts To Quell Leverage Chatter

Following the Huskies’ title win in early April talks of a new deal began to circulate, but nothing seemed to materialize until the Lakers came calling. What’s wild is Hurley’s name was never mentioned in the coaching search until last week, and then things just took off. ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski even claimed that Hurley had been the team’s top choice all along.

Speaking with the “Dan Le Batard Show” on Thursday, Hurley was his same candid self as he laid into those believing he leveraged the Lakers to expedite his negotiations with the Huskies.

“To me that’s one of the dumbest takes I’ve heard,” Hurley said. “One of the worst takes I’ve heard is that this was a leverage play by me to improve my situation at UConn. I don’t need leverage here. We’ve won back-to-back national championships.”

“This was never a leverage situation for me. I’ve had a contract in place here at UConn for a couple of weeks, and financial terms as far as salary, have been done for a while,” he continued. “The idea that this was some conspiracy to get me a sweeter deal at UConn is lazy.”

Hurley may be telling the truth, but nothing became set in stone until the Lakers attempted to pry him away. Hurley says the deciding factor for him was that his wife and family love it in Storrs, and it’s just a couple hours from New Jersey, where Hurley grew up.

Lakers Can Now Say At Least We Tried

Now, with Hurley out of the picture, the Lakers can now turn their focus to other candidates, like former NBA sharpshooter JJ Redick who’s slated to formally interview for the gig this weekend. It’s no secret that Redick’s name has been mentioned since the job became available following the firing of Darvin Ham following a 4-1 first-round playoff loss to the Denver Nuggets.

In essence Redick has been interviewing for the job for weeks. Just watch an episode of the “Mind The Game” podcast with Redick and Lakers superstar LeBron James. Of all the people James could’ve chosen to do a podcast with, he chose Redick, and each show is about Redick putting his basketball acumen and IQ on full display. This is the hire that LeBron wants, and it’s highly plausible it’s what he gets.

The bad part about this is there are so many other worthy assistants who’ve actually paid their dues that will get passed over for Redick, who’s never coached at any level prior to this. It’s not right, and everyone knows it.

If I’m Anthony Davis I start asking when will we build for the future, which I am, and when will my feelings on the coach be heard. Because as of now Lakers brass is only worried about appeasing James and his slight window of playing time he has left.

Despite The Hype, WNBA Will Lose $50M This Season: The Rookie Class Can Only Do So Much

Caitlin Clark alone can’t save the WNBA from losing money. Despite record-setting attendance and television ratings, the WNBA reportedly still faces a $50 million loss for the 2024 season.

The WNBA rookie class has been credited with taking the league to new heights financially , in popularity and in its standing against the men’s game.

WNBA players have a voice, a few sneakers deals and a slot in the daily sports talk conversation.

WNBA To Lose $50M This Season

So what gives with the loss of the bag?

According to the WNBA, more than half of all the WNBA games so far this season were sellouts, which is an increase of 156 percent compared to 2023.

The arenas have been filled to a 94 percent capacity, a 17 percent increase from 2023 and clear signs that people are coming out to support via the ticket gates.

But according to Ben Strauss of The Washington Post, these new opportunities are doing no more than helping the league dig out of a $50 million L on its balance for the 2024 season.

“This year, the WNBA and its teams are still expected to lose around $50 million, according to two people with knowledge of the figures, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the league’s finances,” Strauss wrote.

The NBA has spent several years subsidizing the WNBA, and continues to do so today.

“The truth is, this league would be hard-pressed to exist without the NBA,” a WNBA team executive told Strauss.

Strauss reports that the NBA holds around a 15 percent equity stake in the WNBA.

NBA commissioner Adam Silver says that the league loses around $10 million annually on the WNBA.

Strauss says the WNBA is spending an extra $25 million each of the next two seasons on chartered flights, which will put them in even deeper debt, but does endear the league to the public and its outcries for chartered flights for women players.

WNBA Expansion and New $60M TV Deal

Despite the financial setback and the hole the league is digging itself out of, it’s headed in an upward direction, so much so that the league recently announced expansion franchises in Toronto and the Bay Area, while currently in talks to add two more.

In addition to expansion, the league is currently working on a new TV deal worth a reported $60 million, a figure Strauss claims could triple in the years to come.

It’s not an independent deal, however, as the exact amount is determined by the NBA, who brokered the deal as part of its own larger rights package. It then gives the WNBA a small piece.

“Women’s Sports Rights Fees Have Been Undervalued” WNBA Hopes To Double Revenue To $120M On Back of New Celebrity Ballers Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese

These real numbers definitely make understanding the WNBA a bit confusing to the average fan. Players and media often complain that the WNBA doesn’t get its fair share of the pie as it pertains to contracts, advertising and branding and overall visibility.

WNBA Top Ten Salaries | League’s Most Accomplished Players Aja Wilson And Breanna Stewart Don’t Even Make The List

All of this may be true, but until the league can honestly stand on its own two feet without the NBA’s money the league will never be able to turn a profit large enough to increase salaries, improve travel, promote its stars, and make sure every game is on television

“They Should Just Let The Girl Play Basketball”: NFL Star George Kittle On Caitlin Clark’s Rookie Hazing and WNBA Controversy

Caitlin Clark has had more than a few celebrities and athletes supporting her and her journey. Many have defended her, praised her, anointed her and some have criticized what they perceive as favoritism.

Her battles with opposing players have been covered like a World War, and anything surrounding CC catapults into the daily sports conversation. Before ever playing a WNBA game Clark was a household name, and only legends are called by their initials or first name, from MJ to Dr. J to Deion to Bo, dating back to “The Babe.”

“That’s Not A Basketball Play” | Chennedy Carter’s Cheap Shot Overshadows WNBA’s First Caitlin Clark Versus Angel Reese Showdown

The Angel Reese contingent continues to fight to have her recognized (Reese had her first 20-point, 10-rebound game in a loss to the Connecticut Sun on Wednesday night), and she personally fights for her respect and props deserved for helping with this recent women’s hoops explosion that CC gets 99 percent of the credit from.

She has dealt with her own growing pains and challenges from veterans, but few people have spoken out to protect her.

George Kittle Defends Caitlin Clark Against Jealousy

The most recent professional men’s athlete to give his take and support for Clark, is also a former Iowa Hawkeye and also among the best to ever do it at his position.

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle recently discussed the controversy surrounding Clark and the WNBA with a USA Today reporter via Zoom.

He was asked about the line between rookie hazing versus the rest of the league being jealous of Clark. This question always befuddles me, because it’s a lazy go-to. WNBA players have explained over and over again that they are not jealous of Clark. Some have openly thanked her for her contributions to the sport off the court.

There’s still this narrative that persists that opposing players are going harder at Clark than other players, which is unfounded, but that’s become a thing. Is she purposely being hazed and intimidated?

“Her Teammates Have To Come To Her Defense”: Magic Johnson Says Indiana Fever Not Protecting Caitlin Clark, Says She Should Call Larry Bird For Advice

“No, I really think that Caitlin does such a phenomenal job of handling the spotlight she’s in constantly because it’s like everything that happens in the WNBA somehow gets reverted back to her,” Kittle said.

“It’s not like she’s out there saying put the camera on me. She doesn’t brag all the time. She’s incredibly humble,” Kittle continued.

“She’s handling it the best she can,” he extolled. “There for some reason is such a controversy every time there’s something about Caitlin Clark. It’s great media clicks and stuff; like that. I think they should just let the girl play basketball because she’s fun to watch.”

Caitlin Clark Numbers Are Solid, Not Great: George Kittle Says Let Her Improve

The amazing part about the Clark phenomenon is that most people have no clue how she’s really doing in comparison to other great players in the league.

Her averages are solid but not remarkable. She’s averaging 16.2 points per game, 4.9 rebounds and six assists per game. She has the ball in her hands a lot. She’s 18th in field goal attempts and 15th overall in scoring. Which is good.

“I don’t know why people would give her any type of crap,” Kittle said. “Transitioning from college to the WNBA or college to the NFL or NBA, it’s a grind for most people. I think she’s handling it very well. She had 30-point games and 10-point games. I think she will figure it out as she goes. I don’t know if there’s a rookie hazing. I think people just see her and say ‘I’m gonna compete against her because he has the spotlight on her.’”

Her shooting splits aren’t very impressive. The No. 1 overall pick is shooting 37 percent on field goals and 33 percent on threes. She takes the third-most threes per game in the league (8.4), which also helps her scoring average, which looks solid but would be five points higher if she was a more efficient shooter, and Kittle believes that will come over time

“I think the more she plays the harder she’s gonna get to defend,” Kittles said. “And you will start seeing those 25-to-30-point games consistently, and she will continue to carry it like a champ like she is.”

Clark Still Helping WNBA Historic Ratings Boost

As expected, the WNBA ratings bonanza has cooled down a bit now that the season is underway, and the ups and downs of a pro season are hitting home. However, the Fever reportedly still account for 33 percent of the WNBA’s total ratings, and it’s clear that Clark is still the major draw.

Her regular season debut against the Connecticut Sun drew an audience of 2.13 million viewers, making the most watched WNBA game in almost 23 years.

Additionally, the Fever-Liberty matchup on ABC averaged a 1.1 rating and 1.71 million viewers, ranking as the second-most-watched WNBA game in 22 years.

Furthermore, the Fever’s game against the Chicago Sky and wildly popular rookie Angel Reese also drew a booming audience with 1.53 million viewers on ESPN, marking the league’s fourth-largest audience in the last 22 years.

Will Women’s Basketball Crumble If Caitlin Clark Can’t Deliver?

So, when Caitlin Clark starts playing even better and the Fever start competing with the best of the WNBA, the ratings should continue to soar.

Just ask George Kittle.

The Next Aaron Judge Is Playing Minor League Ball For Washington Nationals: James Wood Is A Generational Black Baseball Prospect

At 6 feet 8, 250 pounds, Aaron Judge is a not only a physical specimen, he’s an incredible baseball player.

He leads MLB with 25 homers, RBI (62), walks, OBP (1.135) and is slugging over .700, just to name a few categories. The New York Yankees are demolishing the competition and sitting comfortably in first place in the American League East.

Judge’s combination of football size, basketball height and baseball acumen make him one of the rare players in history.

James Wood Is The Next Aaron Judge?

There’s another young, Black baseball player with similar measurables coming down the MLB pipeline, James Wood. The Washington Nationals have a bevy of young talent in their farm system, but no player stands out like the 6-foot-7, 240-pound outfielder.

Some say he favors Judge; others say he reminds them of former Yankees great Dave Winfield.

“His size, power, length, strength and effortlessness of his game is a combination of Darryl Strawberry and Dave Winfield,” said Martin Weiss, co-host of “The Bad Boys” show on Sportsrap Radio 1270 AM in Detroit.

The club’s top-ranked prospect is inching his way closer a being called up to the majors. Blessed with a live bat and great athleticism, Wood has shined since arriving to the club via the blockbuster Juan Soto trade which occurred in August of 2022 and sent the star outfielder to the San Diego Padres for a slew of top picks, including current shortstop CJ Abrams and minor leaguer Wood, both Black baseball players.

Wood has quickly worked his way up to the Triple-A level and just like he did in Single-A and Double-A, he’s flourished.

In fact, Wood has been so lethal this season that he was named International League Player of the Month for the month of May, which included a 12-game hitting streak that stretched from May 3-16, the longest for any Red Wings player this season. He also had eight multi-hit games.

In all Wood went 28-for-71 in May with a league-leading (.506) on-base percentage, slugging percentage (.746) and on-base plus slugging (1.252). He led the team with 53 total bases, 22 RBI, 17 walks, 28 hits, and, of course, homers, with seven. Wood also tied for the team lead with 18 runs scored.

To put it simply, he was a one-man wrecking crew who has mashed at every level and is probably ready to attack MLB pitching now.

Wood Stacking Numbers Despite Being Injured Late In Month

Wood was so good in May that the middling Nationals considered bringing him up, but he suffered hamstring tightness sending him to the seven-day injured list on May 28. Now back in the fold, the hulking slugger is looking to get back to excellent play. Prior to his injury Wood boasted a slash line of .355/.465/.596 with nine homers.

Speaking with reporters prior to his injury, Wood talked about staying focused and consistent.

“I’m just trying to be consistent. I’m just trying to get myself prepared, and sometimes the game just goes your way a little bit more times than others.”

“Obviously reaching the majors is the goal, but I’m just really trying to stay focused on what I can accomplish here every day.”

Wood Is Ready, So When?

Wood has shown time and time again throughout his minor league journey that he’s a keeper. This season he’s shown it against the top prospects in the minors. All that’s left now is for him to show he’s fully healthy and ready, and the expectancy is the Nationals (32-35) will likely promote him in the coming weeks.

Despite being 14.5 games behind the NL East division-leading Phillies and 10.5 games behind the second-place Braves, a wild card playoff berth isn’t out of the question this season.

The major quandary for Nats GM Mike Rizzo, who is known to be cautious with his top prospects, is whether the Nationals are willing to bring him up despite a season that most likely won’t result in a playoff berth or run.

The best way for Wood to continue to develop is playing against the best, and with him having dominated Triple-A pitching it may be time for a change of scenery.
