MRI showed that Eagles’ QB and NFL MVP candidate Carson Wentz did tear his ACL. Wentz is our for season. Nick Foles time.

The injury to Wentz, who was a legitimate NFL MVP candidate and a rising star at QB whose expeditious development has coincided with Phillys rise to legitimate Super Bowl contenders, is another devastating blow to the NFL’s crop of young, talented quarterbacks. Texans quarterback DeShaun Watson had his magical rookie season ended prematurely and Andrew Luck has missed the entire season with the Colts.

Carson Wentz leaves the game after this nasty knee injury. Possibly torn ACL. He was having an MVP type season. Prayers for a quick recovery #FlyEagelsFly #NFL https://t.co/vFDYXGbkAA

This sounds like as good a time as any for the Eagles to take a stab at signing Colin Kaepernick who has been blackballed from the league for the NFL protests against social injustice and police brutality that he sparked in 2016. The Eagles still have a ton of talent and if they can bring in a seasoned, capable veteran with Kaepernicks talent, then the entire campaign wont be lost.

Pederson confirmed the Eagles (11-3) will move forward with Nick Foles and expressed great confidence in a guy who started for the Eagles during parts of 2013 and 2014, tossing 40 TDs and just 12 picks in 21 appearances but has only started one game in the last two seasons. Hes pretty much considered washed up.  When asked if the team could move forward just as effectively without Wentz, Pederson said what he had to say under the circumstances.

We sure can. Heck yeah. We overcame losing a Pro Bowl left tackle. We overcame our middle linebacker (being lost). We’ve overcome (losing) a running back and special teams player…This is no different.

Yeah, he is the quarterback of our football team. And each one of these guys I mentioned are tough to replace. The reason we went out and got Nick Foles is for situations, seasons like this and Im excited for Nick, but hate it for Carson Wentz.

While Kaepernick s a proven winner with Super Bowl experience, who has been staying in shape and has repeatedly said he is ready to answer the call of any NFL squad that needs him, who knows what Philly will get from Foles. If signed, Kaepernick could keep the teams momentum going and provide confidence for the players who are undoubtedly distraught now that their most important piece is out for the playoff run.

If Foles gets hurt then obscure and unheralded Nate Sudfeld projects to be the backup. With three games remaining in the regular season and home field advantage officially clinched on Sunday, the Eagles can clinch the No. 1 overall seed by winning at least two of their remaining games. These games are crucial to Phillys playoff positioning and fading super Bowl dreams

It wont happen, but it would be nice to see the Eagles call Kaepernick in for reinforcements.
