Terrell Owens, a hall of fame candidate who missed out on this year’s ballot, took a shot at Hall of Fame receiver, Cris Carter, this morning on ESPN’s Mike & Mike program.
“[Cris Carter] is a guy that’s criticized me plenty of times, for anything,” Owens said, perSports Illustrated, pointing to a time early in his career when Carter apparently called him mediocre. “For me, that was something that motivated me. … For somebody like that, for Cris Carter to come out and say something like that, I just felt like it was disrespectful. And so now, when you look at where I am statistically, I’ve surpassed him. And from what I’ve heard, from a lot of guys, he begged his way into the Hall of Fame.”
Is Owens talking smack? Yes. But in regards to stats, he’s not off base in the least bit. A comparison of the two receivers is below:
Owens has 1,078 catches for 15,934 yards and 153 TDs.
Carter has 1,101 catches for 13,899 yards and 130 TDs.
Carter was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2013, the same year that he wrote his book, “Going Deep.” In regards to Owens, C.C. wrote they “were never meant to be friends.”
Now that’s a definite certainty.
