Sports Suffering From The Injury Bug

This weekend we witnessed a rash of injuries that affect both the worlds of the NBA and the NFL.

After a rough summer, the NBA was hoping to usher in the regular season with big moves, big names, gold medals and a new multi-billion dollar television deal. But the pre-season has gotten off to a sour note, with the report that OKC superstar Kevin Durant will be sidelined for for a few months with a broken foot. According to Jeff Caplan of, "Thunder general manager Sam Presti said on Sunday that Durant wil likely undergo surgery, and he estimated the NBA's reigning MVP will be sidelined six to eight weeks. Souryal said surgery is the most common treatment for athletes with a "Jones fracture" and that Presti's timeframe is on target for this type of injury." You can read more on Durant's injury here.

On the gridiron, the scene was even worse with multiple players getting injured. The players below are expected to miss at least a week or two:

Darren Sproles- Eagles (slight MCL tear)

AJ Green- Bengals (toe)

Reggie Bush- Lions (ankle)

Calvin Johnson- Lions (high ankle sprain)

Jimmy Graham- Saints (shoulder sprain)

But some other more serious injuries took place on Sunday, and if all of the initial reports are confirmed, then these players will miss the remainder of the season or more:

Victor Cruz- Giants (torn patella tendon)

Alex Mack- Browns (broken fibula)

Jerod Mayo- Patriots (possible ACL MCL sprain or tear)

Steven Ridley- Patriots (possible torn ACL)

Dee Milliner (torn achilles)
