Buffalo Bills wide receiver Sammy Watkins is unhappy with his role during games this season and has decided to target his own team.

The fourth overall pick in the 2014 draft called out the Bills for making him “look bad” and expressed a desire to receive as many targets as the NFL’s top receivers like ODB Jr, Julio Jones & A.J Green.

Via Buffalo News:

Everybody looks at you getting zero catches, zero yards but when you look on film 90 percent of the time youre open, said Watkins, who is represented by Eugene Parker. I understand that these guys are young and they need some time to trust me. Once we get that trust, itll be different. But for me, I need the ball at least 10 times I need 10 targets and Ill be fine with however many yards I get. And thats what I addressed in talking with my agent. We reached out to a couple people and tried to pull some strings like, Hey, I need my targets. You came up to draft me and Im not getting targets thats a problem. Youre making me look bad and youre making yourself look bad. Why not make both of us look good?

Listen, Watkins is probably right about receiving more targets. The young receiver is extremely talented and is seemingly anxious to prove himself in this league. But is this the right way to get your point across? While he may feel he can contribute more and help the Bills, his statements come off as selfish. Why not address the coaching staff and quarterback privately before throwing them under the bus? It will be interesting to see how Rex Ryan, a long-time players coach, handles this situation.
