Rockies’ Jose Reyes arrested for Domestic Violence in Maui

Colorado Rockies shortstop Jose Reyes was arrested for domestic violence in Maui on Halloween.

Reyes was accused of grabbing his wife by the neck and shoving her against a sliding glass door in their hotel room. His wife suffered injuries to her neck, thigh and wrist. She was treated at Maui Memorial Center.

The shortstop will most likely be the first player disciplined under MLB’s new domestic violence policy announced by commissioner Rob Manfred in August. The policy gives Manfred the discretion to issue discipline for “just cause” without any minimum or maximum penalty. The discipline is also not dependent on a criminal conviction.

In effort to avoid the nightmare the NFL has faced in the media this past year due to the mishandling of domestic violence cases, you can bet on MLB dropping the hammer on Reyes.
