Michael Bennett’s Arrest Is A Lesson In Character Assassination 101

Now, Im not saying Michael Bennett was framed, but the fact that hes surrendered Monday in Houston after being indicted by a grand jury in Harris County, Texas, for allegedly injuring a 66-year-old paraplegic woman after Super Bowl 51, is perplexing, troubling and shocking and predictable.

Bennett has been one of the more outspoken faces of the NFLs Players Coalition, an uninhibited anthem kneeler and a strong emotional leader of the NFL players socially conscious movement inspired by Colin Kaepernick.

But as we have seen in recent weeks, most notably with the difficulty safety Eric Reid — a high profile anthem protester —  is having with his free agency, those “friends” of Colin Kaepernick will be eliminated slowly and strategically.

I have to admit, I dont buy it and if Bennett mistakenly knocked down an elderly person, then it certainly wasn’t with malicious intent. I think hes being framed. Police have been embarrassing proud men of color forever. This is nothing new. This isn’t even the first time they’ve attempted to arrest him for something he didn’t do.

TMZ Sports has obtained video of NFL superstar Michael Bennett being handcuffed by police while lying face down on the concrete in Las Vegas … and you can hear him screaming that he’s innocent. The NFL wants to eliminate all of the major Kaepernick supporters and Bennett has been a major thorn in the league’s side. If the police from various hick towns want to aid in this endeavor then the owners surely would appreciate it.

According to sportingnews.com,
“the woman was working at NRG Stadium controlling access to the field when Bennett allegedly tried to force his way through security and onto the field after the Patriots’ Super Bowl win over the Falcons in Houston. Bennett was a spectator watching his brother Martellus play for the Patriots.

A warrant was issued for Bennett’s arrest on a felony charge of injury to the elderly, and, if convicted, the 32-year-old could face a $10,000 fine and up to 10 years in prison. Prosecutors would have to prove that Bennett “intentionally and knowingly” caused “bodily injury to a person 65 years or older,.”

Bennett’s character assassination is a situation we have seen too many times throughout our countrys dark history. The systematic elimination of those people of color who inspire, challenge the status quo and disrupt a system of oppression in big business that has made white men very rich.

From the Black Panther party to MLK, to Malcolm X to Rosewood to John Carlos in the 68′ Olympics to Colin Kaepernick to Eric Reid to Mahmoud Rauf in the NBA to Michael Bennett’s current Super Bowl setup, activists of color have been targets and considered nuisances that have to be eliminated.

The DA’s report notes that NRG security personnel told Bennett he had to use a different entrance to access the field, but he instead pushed through them.

“Mr. Bennett may think that because he’s an NFL player and some time passed … he may have thought that, No. 1, rules don’t apply to him, No. 2, he doesn’t have to respect the dignity of a paraplegic woman who’s trying to earn a living,” Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo said Friday.

The report also noted there is no video of the incident, but a police officer supposedly witnessed it.

The Eagles released a statement saying the team is aware of the situation and is gathering more information, but they will not further comment at this time.

This sounds like some real cow manure and the second time law enforcement has tried to damage Bennett’s reputation while damaging the momentum of Kaepernick’s movement. They don’t play in Jerry Jones hometown, especially when it comes to militant brothers messing up the money.

Bennett signed with the Eagles and joined the most socially conscious squad in the NFL with the Players Coalition head in Malcolm Jenkins and other vocal players holding court as Super Bowl champions. Its looking as if the Voltron formation might be on delay thanks to the powers that be.

Bennett’s lawyer Rusty Hardin went on record to defend his client by saying he flat out didn’t do it, but according to NJ.com, Hardin says it with a smile on his face.

Im going to say this with a smile and total confidence: they are going to change their mind. This guy didnt do it.
