With so much focus on the dangers of the NFL and the attitudes of its players, we rarely get a glimpse into the numerous good deeds that these high-priced, high-risk warriors selflessly do for their communities and families.
Totally immersed in the Christmas spirit, Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Marcell Dareus hosted his second annual Christmas party Friday and provided gifts for 175 local children at the William-Emslie Family YMCA in Buffalo.
For his relentless and genuine dedication to the community, a representative from the office of Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown presented Dareus with an official proclamation making December 23rd “Marcell Dareus Day” in Buffalo before the Bills star changed into his Santa suit to greet children and turn frowns upside down.
“This is one of my favorite days of the year and I feel so happy that I’m able to brighten the holidays for these kids,” said Dareus through his PR at Swanson Communications. “It’s the least that I can do to help this Buffalo community that supports me so much. To have this be ‘Marcell Dareus Day’ in Buffalo means the world to me. I love the people here and being able to interact with them one-on-one is what this time of year is all about.”

The event featured Dareus, a two-time Pro Bowl selection in his six years with the Bills, hosting an evening full of entertainment and generosity. A $10,000 check was presented to the YMCA Buffalo Niagara to signify Dareus’ commitment to this event, which he considers so important because of what he overcame growing up.
“Words can’t even express how I really feel about giving back, because this is something that I’ve dreamed of,” said Dareus. “Somebody did this for me once, and to be on the other end is something that I never would have imagined. The fact that I can make the same difference in the lives of these young people in Buffalo, and make sure they have a great Christmas, is really exciting for me.”
The 2nd Annual Christmas Party with Marcell Dareus is made possible by YMCA Buffalo Niagara and NORSTAR.
