“I Shut You Down Two Weeks In a Row” | Revis Island and Ochocinco Still Going At It Years Later On Twitter

Darrelle Revis and Chad ‘Ochocinco’ Johnson’s feud has spilled over from the field to Twitter. The Pro Bowl cornerback and receiver exchanged shots after Revis didn’t take too kindly to things said about him from Johnson when appeared on Shannon Sharpe‘s ‘Club Shay Shay” podcast.

What Was Said?

Sharpe asked Johnson who was his toughest matchup in the league? Johnson responded in a way that only Ocho could respond, “It made me so mad; he dressed so ugly in his uniform with those high ass socks. But he’s one of the greatest to ever do it.”

Revis took too social media with his response and didn’t hold back.

“What receiver u know who wears spat. I only thought RB’s wear spat on cleats but claim my gear was ugly. Buddy, I shut you down two weeks in a row. 1st week: 0 catches 0 yards. 2nd week: 2 catches for 28 yards. just live with the facts. it will sink in soon. @ochocinco,” said Revis.

The responses kept coming from Revis as he went at fans commenting under the post, had a small back-and-forth with Johnson, and the two even went as far suggesting that they line it up again.

Thought Everything Was All Good Between Us, What Happened?

In October 2021, Revis and Johnson sat down on “I Am Athlete” podcast and seemingly hashed out their feud. Johnson crowned Revis as the best corner he has ever faced and did it again on “Club Shay Shay.”

“Everywhere I go people continue to ask me ‘You still on the island?’ (laughing),” said Johnson on “I Am Athlete.” “I am glad you are here, so I can tell you face-to-face that you are the best corner I’ve ever faced and I haven’t recovered.”

Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson vs Darrelle Revis

Johnson was drafted in the 2001 NFL draft and Revis was drafted in the 2007 NFL draft, so Revis did have the youth on his side during his 2009 Defensive Player of the Year season. Johnson was an eight-year veteran in the league at the time, but was having a very good bounce-back year.

Back in 2009, before the first BengalsJets matchup, Johnson promised for it to be a blockbuster event and said it was better than Pacquiao-Mayweather. Revis held up his end but Johnson did not with zero catches and zero yards.

Then, the two seen each other the following week in the playoffs and the result was pretty much the same. Johnson did manage to catch two passes for 28 yards. In his defense, the Jets defense was outstanding in 2009. They finished the season ranked No. 1 overall in defense and that defense carried them to the AFC Championship Game. Revis was first-team All-Pro and a Pro Bowl selection that season.

Johnson was a very good NFL receiver for many years, but even if both were the same age and in their primes at the same time, Revis still might’ve gotten the best of him. As great of a route runner Johnson was, Revis was as fundamentally sound a corner as they come, and he didn’t rely heavily on his athleticism. That is a matchup that NFL fans would love to see again though, that would go the distance.
