Former Raiders TE Richard Gordon Arrested On Accusations Of Breaking Into Ex-Girlfriend’s House Threatening To Kill Her, Stealing Her Dog

NFL journeyman Richard Gordon is back in hot water after he was arrested in South Florida for allegedly breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s home and threatening to kill her. He was arrested in Miami over the weekend and was accused of many things, like stealing his wife’s dog and damaging the police squad car he was riding in.

The former University of Miami tight end hasn’t played in the league since 2016, when the Denver Broncos cut him.

In 2016, police arrested Gordon after he allegedly punched his girlfriend. A witness then reported the incident upon seeing Gordon’s then-girlfriend being assaulted and pushed out of a Mercedes SUV. In that incident, while he was being taken into custody, he kicked a car door, injuring her, and got into an altercation with the arresting officer.

Subsequently, Gordon was arrested in that case on battery charges against both his girlfriend and the arresting officer. The woman and Gordon share a now-9-year-old child; at the time she said she lived with him. However, the incident showed how real it could have gotten, as reports back then were that Gordon had an AR-15 visible in the back seat of Gordon’s car, along with two magazines of ammunition and a small amount of marijuana.

Gordon reportedly wanted to visit a strip club called The Office and shoot it up. He apparently had a disagreement inside the establishment in the past and wanted to exact a potentially fatal version of rough justice.

Drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the sixth round of the 2011 NFL draft, Gordon was the 181st overall pick. Gordon has played for eight teams from 2011-2016, staying with each no longer than a few months to a year. His longest tenure was when he entered the league for the 2011-2012 season with the Oakland Raiders.

Gordon has been on the roster of six different organizations, with stints with the Oakland Raiders, Pittsburgh Steelers, Kansas City Chiefs in 2013 and again in 2014, Tennessee Titans, Baltimore Ravens (2015), and the Denver Broncos in 2015 and 2016, the last team played on. It was also the same year he had the first run-in with the law mentioned earlier when he was arrested.

However, Gordon has been out of the NFL ever since.

A blocker by trade, Gordon had the most productive years of his NFL career when he was with the Raiders, where he had a total of four receptions for 14 yards and a single touchdown. However, since 2013, he failed to register a single reception or touchdown despite the fact that he was on an NFL team roster until 2016. Gordon played five snaps in the one game he appeared in 2015 before being cut when the Broncos needed help at the safety position. He was eventually re-signed during the offseason in 2016, only to be waived again. HE has not played in the NFL since.

The NFL has had a history of its players being involved in domestic violence cases.
