Derrick Rose’s Wife And Ex’s Pajama Party Is Christmas Co-Parenting Goals

Derrick Rose is showing the world what co-parenting goals look like this holiday season as his wife and son’s mother wore matching pajamas for a fun family night. The New York Knicks point guard’s wife, Alaina Anderson Rose, and his son PJ Rose’s mother, Mieka Joi, celebrated the holidays like one big happy family. The videos posted to Joi’s Instagram showed the trio taking shots of tequila and drinking whiskey while playing Uno and enjoying light food fare.

The two women are also entrepreneurial and accomplished, each having entire lives aside from their relationship with Derrick Rose.

The Pajama Party

Rose and Mieka Joi Reese had their son Derrick Rose Jr., nicknamed P.J., in 2012. The Chicagoan went to Clark Atlanta University and launched her first business, a styling company, Socialite Styling, doing personal shopping and more. Eventually, she grew and launched another company, Rich Girl Candy, “a lifestyle brand comprised of sweat suits, one of a kind hoodies, hats, t-shirts, and accessories. In addition to being showcased at both NYFW 2013 and NYFW 2015, the Rich Girl Candy brand is a go-to brand for many A-list celebrities,” the company website says.

Alaina Rose, also from Chicago, went to the University of Chicago and is a fitness instructor and model. She owns and operates the Keep It Cute fitness and apparel company. She has two children with Derrick, Layla and London Rose, and the two have been married since 2018. Rose famously proposed to the then-Alaina Anderson on the floor of Madison Square Garden with a dinner setup and engagement ring on the hardwood of the world’s most famous arena.

The Parent Trap

Fast-forward to now, and the Rose clan are defining neo-parenting and family goals of blended families. Fellow NBA veterans spoke out on the positive video of the Rose family holiday celebration with support for the unique arrangement and bedwear coordination.

“Like a real one should,” JR Smith posted in a retweet of the video of the Rose family function.

Rose went No. 1 in the first round of the 2008 draft to the Chicago Bulls. The native son of Chi-town represented his city for eight years, racking up heaps of awards as one of the best players in the NBA. In 546 career NBA games (489 starts), Rose holds averages of 18.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 4.3 assists with Chicago, New York, Cleveland, and Minnesota, per his NBA player bio.

Since landing in New York for the second time, Rose has seen considerably limited time and put in no minutes during the Christmas Day game against the Philadelphia 76ers. The team has done better recently without substantial play from Rose and lost the game against the 76ers 119-112. The 18-16 Knicks couldn’t stop the 76ers from winning their eighth straight at the expense of New York.

“Our players have appreciation for playing on this day,” Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau said during the post-game press conference. “You know everyone’s watching.”

Although the team appeared to have strength early on Christmas Sunday, Joel Embiid delivered, finishing with 35 points on 12 of 22 shooting.

Derrick Rose received the best present ahead of the game that any father and husband can receive, peace between the parties, teaching us all what life can look like in love and basketball.
