Nunes knocks out Cris Cyborg in the first round.
Amanda Nunes is the greatest female mixed martial artist of all time. This weekend, she knocked out the most feared female striker in MMA history and it only took her 51 seconds.
UFC 232 was a card that was rife with problems. There was a tainted blood sample by headliner Jon Jones. Then the whole event moved from Las Vegas to Los Angeles.
UFC President Dana White gambled on the talent reestablishing what was beginning to look like a tanked show. The main event featured a rematch between Jones and Alexander Gustafsson. As a result, no one expected Nunes to steal the show.
From the opening bell, the two charged each other swinging wildly. Like a stealth missile, Nunes executed with pinpoint accuracy in the exchanges. With a flurry of left and right hooks, she dropped Cyborg, who quickly recovered.
Nunes began the aggressive campaign again until a final two-piece flattened Cyborg to bring the curtain down.
Labeled the Battle of Brazil, Nunes took not only the women’s MMA crown in the UFC, but also in her home country.
The win also made Nunes the first female double champion in UFC history.
In the headliner, Jon Jones reclaimed the light heavyweight crown by defeating Gustafsson again via third round TKO.
However, UFC 232 will always be known as the night that Amanda Nunes felled another giant and became the GWOAT.
