This week, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was noncommittal on McCarthy’s future.
“I won’t get into any conversations that I’ve had with anybody relative to anything to do with staff,” Jones told reporters.
“Inside The NBA” analyst and Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal feels like he has the cure for the Cowboys’ blues. He says hire Deion Sanders, the Pro Football Hall of Famer and current Jackson State Tigers head coach.
All former @dallascowboys that were real ballers between 92-96 I believe @TroyAikman has a plane let’s meet at Love Field to go the Philadelphia. We can be there by halftime if @CharlesHaley94 & @michaelirvin88 are on time. I can’t take this anymore! We’ve got to help now. #Truth

On the “Big Wig Podcast,” Shaq was adamant about the team hiring Sanders, who helped the franchise win its last Super Bowl as a cornerback in 1996.
😂😂😂😂😂
Me and @SHAQ had a bet!!! Shaq is a @dallascowboys fan and y’all know I got drafted to the @49ers!! Of course I want the Niners to beat the Cowboys. So Shaq had to wear a wig the whole podcast and sing an original song!!! 😂 @nischelleturner 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 pic.twitter.com/MTXTcizJQv— ANTHONY ADAMS (@spiceadams) January 20, 2022
“I’m putting this out there right now,” Shaq said. “Deion Sanders is the next coach for the Cowboys. Jerry Jones, this message is from Shaquille O’Neal Incorporated, Deion Sanders as the next coach of the Cowboys.”
Shaq wasn’t done.
“You want Dallas back rocking? Bring Deion to the fold. Deion will hold those players accountable. Deion Sanders for the next coach of the Dallas Cowboys. Put it out, Tweet it, Til Tok it, Instagram it, Only Fans it, Put it out.”
Deion Sanders Is No Stranger To His Name Being Mentioned For Bigger Jobs
During his breakout season as the head coach of the Jackson State Tigers, rumors were rampant about Power 5 schools and even NFL teams openly and secretly coveting Deion. Coach Prime’s brand exploded during a season where he lead the team to it’s first 11-win season in school history, a SWAC title and an appearance in the Celebration Bowl.
Bigger brands have been watching Coach Sanders closely; in fact, he reportedly interviewed for the vacant TCU opening while he was recovering from foot/toe surgery.
Sanders’ name was also mentioned as a candidate at his alma mater Florida State, as rumors swirled about their head coach position possibly being available.
Sanders is bringing unprecedented exposure and visibility to the HBCU brand as a whole and not just JSU. He’s building JSU into a powerhouse while helping all HBCUs becomes more noticeable and gain that exposure and visibility they’ve lacked for decades. His leaving to take over the Cowboys just doesn’t seem realistic.
At one time HBCU football was THE place for Black players, where legendary coaches like Eddie Robinson and Jake Gaither helped them develop their talents.
Now Deion Sanders is reviving that reputation writes @blackstar1906 and some don't like it. Too bad.https://t.co/pPwmoMnVGU

Jerry Jones Would Have To Relinquish Some Control To Land Someone Like Sanders
Jerry Jones is still the GM of the Cowboys, and he makes final decisions on personnel. He loves Deion, but he isn’t willing to give up control for any coach outside of maybe Sean Payton or Mike Tomlin, two coaches he’d have to trade a king’s ransom for. In the past, outside of the Bill Parcells tenure, Jones has been reluctant to stop meddling.
