Jay-Z is gunning for Diddy's spot on top of the Forbes Magazine's richest in hip-hop list. In 2012, Jay was about $100 mil behind Diddy but has made major moves in 2013. He's already created his new Roc Nation Sports, sold his stock in the Brooklyn Nets and brought Roc Nation to Universal…not to mention his upcoming renegotiation with Live Nation and his tour with Justin Timberlake.
That alone might get him to the top, but Jay isn't taking any chances. He's now heading into the mobile world by partnering with Samsung. From Page Six:
Jay-Z is about to ink a hugely lucrative deal with Samsung Mobile, sources tell Page Six. The contract is said to be worth as much as $20 million. One source said, “The eight-figure deal will be inked in the next few weeks, and is the biggest of its kind. You can speculate that he’ll want to develop some kind of new music-streaming service to promote his acts and music on mobile devices.”
The up-front cash is one thing, but the opportunities to make money are endless. Several musicians already have their own apps which are generating good money. There are also varying music streaming services figuring themselves out as well as concert streaming services. You can guarantee Jay-Z will be exploring all options.
