Current NBA free agent Tristan Thompson has settled a paternity suit with Maralee Nichols, the mother of his son Theo, according to reports. Thompson will pay $9,500 a month in child support and cover some of Nichols’ legal fees.
Tristan Thompson Will Pay $9500 Monthly Child Support
The 31-year-old center has four children. His eldest, Prince, with ex Jordan Craig, Theo, and, with Kardashian, True and a third son (name publicly unknown) with reality star Khloé Kardashian.
Is Thompson looking for a new contract to pay for some of this child support? Since income is a determining factor, probably not.
Prince’s mom Craig receives $40,000 per month and it is unclear how much Thompson shells out to Kardashian every month. He was playing NBA ball at the time so Kardashian likely receives more than $9,500 monthly, and that’s for two kids not one.
In documents pertaining to the suit with Nichols, Thompson allegedly asked her to get an abortion and offered her $75,000 to keep quiet about being pregnant.
Thompson got Nichols pregnant while he was still with Kardashian, and they were planning to have their second child via surrogacy. He initially denied being the father of Nichols’ baby. Thompson reportedly cheated on Kardashian multiple times over the course of their relationship. The Nichols affair was seemingly the last straw.
Thompson publicly addressed fathering Nichols’ baby and apologized to Khloé on social media.
“Khloé, you don’t deserve this. You don’t deserve the heartache and humiliation I have caused you,” he wrote on Instagram at the time. “You don’t deserve the way I have treated you over the years.”
Who Is Maralee Nichols?
According to intouchweekly.com, “Nichols, who gave birth to the child on December 2, 2021, claimed in a lawsuit obtained by In Touch that they conceived during the NBA star’s 30th birthday celebrations in March, during which he was still in a relationship with Khloé Kardashian.”
Thompson filed an emergency request for a gag order in his ongoing paternity case, even after the son was born. Nichols, a self-proclaimed “fitness model” who claims that she had sex with Thompson in a Houston-based hotel, couldn’t wait to share her child with the world,. She broke her silence two weeks later, releasing several statements on social media.
“Over the past couple of weeks, many inaccurate and false stories have been circulated about me,” she said on Dec. 17, 2021. “I have not at any point released — nor have I directed anyone else to release — any information regarding Tristan Thompson or any litigation involving him. I have never spoken to any media outlet, nor have I leaked any information to anyone at any time.”
Despite publicly humiliating Khloé, her sister Kim found time recently to team up with Thompson for a worthy cause.
During Thanksgiving week, Kim and Tristan were at a dinner at Camp Kilpatrick in Malibu, California. Camp Kilpatrick is a juvenile rehabilitative service facility. Kim Kardashian has long been an advocate for wrongfully convicted inmates and criminal justice reform, and apparently so is Tristan.
Nichols will have full custody of Theo, and at this time it is unclear what Thompson’s visitation rights will be.
A basic understanding of financial planning is that your debts and liabilities should not exceed your income. As mentioned, Thompson is not currently drawing a professional basketball salary. Sounds like a problem.
Should Tristan Thompson Stop Fathering Kids?
Here’s an idea, Tristan. Stop fathering kids. Seems like a reasonable solution to your problem.
Thompson made approximately $116 million over his 11-year NBA career. It’s very doubtful he has another big NBA payday in his future. Maybe he can do the overseas thing if he wants?
Hopefully he’s done a good job investing and saving those earnings. Providing support for four children isn’t cheap. Not to mention paying for his own legal representation in these matters.
Aside from the money, there is the practicality of the matter.
He has four kids with women he is no longer involved with and the nature of the involvement with these women is transactional. You have to imagine that being an active participant in those children’s lives is a challenge.
But he made his bed, so…
