In the last few years, the NFL has shifted to a pass heavy league, with a dominant emphasis placed upon game-changing receivers. Among this group are an elite few, which includes names like Julio Jones, AJ Green and Antonio Brown, the latter of who finally got his pay day after dominating on the grid iron.
Today the Steelers announced the signing of AB to a four year contract extension valued at $73 million.

Yes, AB just topped the list of NFL receivers, surpassing AJ Green’s $15 million annual paycheck with a new $17 million annual salary. But he is definitely worth it, as the former 2010, sixth round pick from Central Michigan has been putting up some of the best numbers in the League over the last six years while proving he’s one of the elite receivers in the game. Last year he caught 106 passes for 1,284 yards and 12 touchdowns and over his six year career, his 8,377 receiving yards are second only to Calvin “Megatron” Johnson. He ranks tenth with 50 TDs and fifth in receiving yards per game (82.9) in that same span.
Although the Steelers’ 2016 run ended in disappointment with a Facebook Live locker room broadcast incident and a loss in the AFC Championship game against New England, there was no way that the Steelers were going to let the (arguably) best receiver in the game don any other color but black and yellow.
Next up for the team- signing Le’Veon Bell, who was just given the franchise tag, adding Martavis Bryant back to an already explosive offense, getting some defensive help and extending their 2017 season one more game to capture their seventh Super Bowl ring. But starting today, AB has finally been rewarded for all of his hard work and big plays, so if he decides to give us another hilarious TD celebration or two, he has the funds to pay for them.
