Serena Williams, the best tennis player of her generation, has been targeted by the greater tennis society for decades. Everything from her celebrations, her style of dress, her candor, and her athletic physique, the list goes on.
Now she’s under attack again, this time from tennis umpires who are threatening to boycott matches in which Serena Williams is competing.

Serena Williams is the greatest women’s tennis player of all-time and has a strong argument to at least be considered for top 10 on the mythical mountain of the greatest American athletes of all-time. Her dominance of a historically rich, white sport has to have the closeted white supremacists soiling their lederhosen.
After the fallout from the fail of the 2018 US Open, the USTA sided with Williams after the match, and WTA CEO Steve Simon said that “there should be no difference in the standards of tolerance provided to the emotions expressed by men vs. women.”
The umpires feel Ramos is being unfairly criticized for his conduct during the match, according to The Times of London.
“The umpiring fraternity is thoroughly disturbed at being abandoned by the WTA,” retired umpire Richard Ings said on Tuesday, via ESPN. “They are all fearful that they could be the next Ramos. They feel that no one has their back when they have to make unpopular calls.”

Over the weekend, Sloane Stephens captured her first major with her win at the U.S. Open. It was also the first time that an American not named Venus or Serena has won the Open since 1998.
Those who have been watching tennis for any amount of time are aware that male tennis players are notoriously poor losers and have thrown tantrums the likes of which would embarrass their mother. Yet, none who have achieved success and status approaching that of Williams has ever been treated in the manner that she has. The race and gender dynamics at play cannot be overstated. A black woman questioning the authority of a European man in a sport that is still, in large part, reserved for the affluent would be a major blow to the egos of anyone still beholden to the old ideas of decorum between men and women in public. Plainly put, she yelled at a white man on TV.

I remember way back when people actually thought there were any real rivals for Serena Williams in women’s tennis. Way, way back when there was still some question as to whether Serena could ever truly be better than her older sister Venus.
The World Tennis Association and the USTA back Williams, but it’s no surprise that the International Tennis Federation backed Ramos.
Saying; “Carlos Ramos is one of the most experienced and respected umpires in tennis. Mr. Ramos’ decisions were in accordance with the relevant rules and were re-affirmed by the U.S. Open’s decision to fine Serena Williams for the three offenses.”
