Sony Pictures Entertainment landed a major multi-year deal with Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry and his production company, Unanimous Media.
The TV and film deal will extend to opportunities in partnerships, electronics, gaming and virtual reality.
Ive been blessed to have this platform and I want to use it to affect the world positively, Curry said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. Partnering with Sony to share inspiring content with a global audience was a foregone conclusion.
Multiple people will play a role in this deal including Sony Pictures co-president Chris Parnell. He will oversee TV projects both scripted and unscripted. Bryan Smiley, VP of production at Columbia Pictures, will oversee production and development while Jeffrey Godsick, executive VP of brand strategy and global partnerships, will oversee partnerships and brand extension across Sony platforms.

Report: Steph Curry strikes deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment https://t.co/3hmky0H1IG
Steph is a transcendent figure in current culture. His wide-ranging content creation interests overlap well with our varied businesses and we have been equally impressed with his team, Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group chairman Tom Rothman said in a statement. We are honored to have been drafted and now we know how lucky Golden State feels every day.
THR reports that the company will focus on both sports-themed projects and faith and family-friendly content.
News of Curry dabbling in television and media isnt surprising or anything new when it comes to professional athletes. Weve seen LeBron James along with his childhood friends Randy Mims, Maverick Carter and Rich Paul create SpringHill Entertainment, Kevin Durant team up with YouTube for Thirty Five Media and Kobe Bryant win an Oscar for his animated film.
But, whats definitely the most interesting aspect of this deal is Curry’s faith-based content. This alone will make him stand out and is true to who he is and his brand. Faith has continuously played a crucial role in Currys life and career.
We see it on his sneakers with a sharpied line from Philippians 4:13 and even from a business perspective with his investment in Active Faith Sports brand. Faith is everything that is Curry, but will it be everything in his content? Will he create a Tyler Perry-esque kind of content? Super religious pieces? Or faith content thats digestible even for the not-so super religious fan base?
No longer are the days where athletes will just stick to sports or stereotypical business endeavors like sneakers. Athletes understand their influence and are capitalizing on industries that were once untapped. So, for those who may tell Curry to stick to sports or may not like his business plans.have a little faith.
