New York Jets Trade Teddy Bridgewater To New Orleans Saints

The New York Jets have traded Teddy Bridgewater to the New Orleans Saints, ensuring that the comeback quarterback will be a backup this season for future Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees. Bridgewater outperformed Jets rookie Sam Darnold this preseason, but couldn’t overcome the inevitability of Gang Green’s overall pick becoming the Week 1 starter. The Jets moved mountains and moved up in the draft to get Darnold, the fans are thirsty for him and the future is now in New York.

Trade of Teddy Bridgewater to the Saints is expected to involve draft picks. And with Bridgewater headed to Saints, Sam Darnold now looks to be Jets opening-night starter.

Bridgewater is ready to start, but that won’t happen in New Orleans, where he will be a great insurance policy in case Drew Brees goes down. The Jets have put it all on the backs of an unproven rookie and shipped a proven winner out of the door. The organization didn’t want any more distractions. No more talk of a quarterback controversy. Sam Darnold is the starting quarterback for the New York Jets and Teddy Bridgewater has to still be patient and wait for his opportunity to get back behind center.
