Normally league champions receive an invitation from the White House to celebrate their achievement with the President of the United States, but with Trump now sitting in the chair, many teams and individuals have been debating that visit.
The latest team to remain undecided are the Golden State Warriors, who defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers in five games to secure another NBA title this past season. Some players, like Kevin Durant, had already expressed their feelings on the issues, stating that they’ll pass. “Nah, I won’t do that.” said Durant. “I don’t respect who’s in office right now.”
While the team awaits an actual invitation, the Warriors haven’t actually said, as an organization, whether they’ll be attending or not, a situation which the NBA is monitoring closely. But head coach Steve Kerr recognizes the reality of the situation.
“The league isn’t going to tell us what to do,” Kerr said. “They know it’s our decision and that, for me, really, it’s the players’ decision. I will put my two cents in, but the players, they’re the ones who won the championship, they’re the ones who did all the work, and they’re the ones who will be very responsible for everything that we do. As a staff, we try to guide them on the floor. But in the end, to me, it’s all about the players. Everything we do is about the players.”
Earlier today, Steph Curry voiced his opinion about a potential trip to the White House and the Trump presidency, and he pulled no punches.
