Drake Offers Suspect And Uninspiring Explanation To Blackface Picture

The beef between Pusha T and Drake got turned up to 10 on Tuesday after the VA native released “The Story of Adidon” track.

And while the track came with some heat about Drake allegedly having an affair and a child with adult-film star and being a dead-beat dad to said child, the track image really stood out to people. The picture of Drake in blackface had the internet looking at him sideways. On Wednesday, Drizzy tried to offer an explanation:

Drake finally gives an explanation for that blackface image…

“I know everyone is enjoying the circus but I want to clarify this image in question. This was not from a clothing brand shoot or my music career. This picture is from 2007, a time in my life where I was an actor and I was working on a project that was about young black actors struggling to get roles, being stereotyped and type cast. The photos represented how African Americans were once wrongfully portrayed in entertainment. Me and my best friend at the time Mazin Elsadig who is also an actor from Sudan were attempting to use our voice to bring awareness to the issues we dealt with all the time as black actors at auditions. This was to highlight and raise our frustrations with not always getting a fair chance in the industry and to make a point that the struggle for black actors had not changed much.”

Well, some people on Twitter were not impressed by that explanation.

Financial statements have been released. Lawyers have yanked content. Drake went “I have a black friend” in an instagram explanation. Pusha has forced this man to go full white woman in this beef.

Drake is smart. He understands the history of racism and the optics, especially magnified by America today. That explanation was weak AF

And this one was a doozy.

Drake usually wins beef by winning the Internet/Meme war. Pusha T appears to have caught him off-guard.
