Also, reports from Yahoo Sports confirmed that the Nevada State Athletic Commission did grant Mayweather Promotions an August 26th date for an event either at the T-Mobile Arena, an MGM Resorts property. Mayweather has an exclusive deal with the entertainment company to fight in Las Vegas, normally at the MGM Grand Garden Arena before the T-Mobile Arena had opened. Teh UFC also has an exclusive contract to host fights in the T-Mobile Arena.
The super fight will be contested at 154lbs, the super welterweight limit and was not announced under any of boxing’s major sanctioning bodies. The triumvirate of Mayweather Promotions CEO, Leonard Ellerbe, UFC President Dana White, and Showtime Sports Executive Vice-President and General Manager, Stephen Espinoza came together and made the deal happen.
The trio hosted the first official conference call on Wednesday night to confirm the deal and field questions from the media. No financial elements of the deal were revealed and Leonard Ellerbe shut down any questions swiftly.
“We have a confidentiality clause in place and the financial details will not be disclosed,” said Ellerbe.
Dana White followed this up with, “nobody’s bummed out about this deal, I promise you that.”
“Everybody’s happy,” Ellerbe closed.
Mayweather was said to have been running earlier when McGregor first sent the tweet that confirmed the fight and didn’t post his social media announcement until later due to his exercise regimen. Although UFC President Dana White was the lead in the Q&A session, the sense of mutual respect t and camaraderie was thick between all parties and they each confirmed that the fight was easy to make.
