Colin Kaepernick, Meek Mill Donate 20 G’s To Philly Youth Organization

The miracle of Colin Kaepernick and the seeds of social justice and goodwill he planted by taking a knee is once again showing its tremendous impact. The ex-NFL star quarterback turned civil rights activist, who Jay-Z compared to Muhammad Ali earlier this week,  has teamed up with unjustly incarcerated rapper Meek Mill for his latest round of donations.

The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback will donate $10,000 to Philadelphia’s Youth Service Inc., which Meek Mill will match from prison. The Philly-bred rapper who rose from the streets to the top of the charts and an episode with Nicki Minaj, is currently serving two to four years for violating probation. Rather than separate themselves from Meek, celebrities have embraced him and championed his cause, while Mill has stayed true to his community-improvement focus. The hashtag #FreeMeekMill is still trending strong.

Despite my brother @meekmill’s current circumstances, he continues to stay connected in the community of Philly. He pledged to go #10for10 on my #MillionDollarPledge. We’re both donating $10k for a combined $20k to Youth Service Inc. Keep staying strong Meek, we love you brother! https://t.co/ZCbecqtPF6

Kaepernick is wrapping up his $1 million pledge to “organizations working in oppressed communities,” which he has been tracking through his personal website.

According to Bleacher Report,
for the final $100,000, he has called upon his friends to match at least $10,000 over 10 days, announcing each one with the #10for10 hashtag.

Meek Mill’s matching donation represents the second-to-last of the pledge, with Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, Snoop Dogg and Serena Williams among those already helping out.

Kaepernick has already donated money to more than 40 organizations and despite the short-minded opinions of NFL ownership, his crusade to fight police brutality, social injustice and oppression or abuse of any kind, while being blackballed by the league, has earned him recognition for his civil activism, including GQ’s Citizen of the Year award.

The final $10,000 donation of Kaepernick’s initial pledge is expected to be announced on Tuesday.
