Black Panther Is Still Smashing Box Office Records

The groundbreaking Black Panther movie continues to rewrite history and impact the box office. According to early weekend projections, the Marvel epic was expected to come out on top of the box office again this weekend, earning the movie another milestone. 

When the numbers drop later today, Black Panther will become the first film, since 2009’s Avatar, to be the number one film in theaters across the U.S. for five consecutive weekends.

Per reports, Black Panther was set to close out Sunday with a domestic total of nearly $610 million, bringing it that much closer to becoming the top-grossing superhero film of all time in North America. The Avengers currently holds the lead with $623 million, but the power of the panther is still raking in the dough.

According to Variety, T’Challa and company are set to pass Star Wars: The Last Jedi ($619.8 million) and The Avengers ($623.4 million) for sixth and fifth place, respectively, on the all-time domestic list by the end of next weekend. 

With those two in its rearview mirror, “Black Panther” will take aim at the remaining four of Jurassic World ($652.3 million), Titanic ($659 million), “Avatar ($760 million) and then the ultimate box office juggernaut, Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($936 million).
