State Farm Community Ambassador CP3, Sabrina Ionescu, NBA Team Up For Play-In Game Assist

As the State Farm NBA Play-In Tournament is underway, we wanted to let you know a few ways that the CP3, NBA and State Farm collaboration is extending far beyond the court, including a new commercial featuring New York Liberty’s Sabrina Ionescu and CP3.

The two elite ballers have combined superpowers and come up with a number of ways to bring fans closer to the game and impact communities and students across the country.

State Farm NBA Play-In Tournament (5/18 – 5/21)

The State Farm NBA Play-In Tournament is a first-of-its-kind tournament airing on ESPN and TNT featuring six games in which teams will battle it out for the final spots in the 2021 NBA Playoffs.

We have already seen the tournament become a fan favorite. LeBron James and Steph Curry battled head-to-head on Wednesday night in a scintillating affair that saw King James drain a three-pointer from deep for the Lakers comeback win.

State Farm will help bring the intense storylines to life as teams take the court with the opportunities to survive and advance.

Surprisingly Great Recaps on Broadcast and Social (5/19 – 5/22)

State Farm will also extend its campaign during the Play-In Tournament into game highlights. As a twist on the usual broadcasters that deliver them, State Farm is teaming up with UnitedMasters artists to produce in-game features and post-game recaps of each of the Play-In Tournament games through sampling the State Farm jingle in both the instrumental track and in lyrics, as well as framing NBA highlights through the lens of a “surprisingly great” storyline.

Another State Farm Commercial Spot Launch for NBA Playoffs (5/22)

Following the Play-In Tournament, State Farm will be launching “Another State Farm Commercial” creative, with three alternate endings. The alternate endings will be released sequentially during the beginning of the Playoffs, as fans will watch the surprisingly great twist of Chris Paul turning into surprise items. This creative launch will also mark the introduction of New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu to the State Farm family.

2020-21 State Farm Assist Tracker and New Curriculum

Additionally, during this exciting time for the NBA and State Farm, the work doesn’t end on the court. For the past six seasons, the NBA and State Farm are proud to have come together as part of the program.

This season will launch a new, five-lesson experience for students and educators across the country in partnership with Learn Fresh, a non-profit that leverages students’ passions for sports and entertainment to inspire their STEM and social-emotional learning.

The lessons introduce students to the real-life applications of STEAM topics, engages them to be better citizens in their schools and local communities, and encourages them to follow along with the StateFarm Assist Tracker logs and league’s current assist total at stats.nba.com.

The lessons include:

  1. SCIENCE: The Forces Acting on a Basketball + COMMUNITY: Positive Forces in the Community
  2. TECHNOLOGY: Data Tracking Technology + COMMUNITY: Enhancing Your Community with Technology
  3. ENGINEERING: Adapting to a Changing Climate + COMMUNITY: Geoengineering for Your Community
  4. ART: Art on the Court + COMMUNITY: Representing Your Community
  5. MATH: Identifying Clutch Players + COMMUNITY: Identify Key Contributors in Your Community

Upon completion of the curriculum, schools and out-of-school programs are eligible to apply for a series of grants – five $10,000 grants, one $50,000 grant and one grant up to $100,000 – for deserving schools and programs across the country to be put towards for their STEAM programs.

State Farm Assist Tracker Surprise Celebration with Chris Paul

The two partnered to wrap up 2019-20 season-long efforts on the State Farm Assist Tracker program – which turns on-court assist into off-court assists in the communities around the country by donating $5 for every assist made during a regular-season game to enhance STEAM learning and technology in classrooms and afterschool programs across the county.

Of course, this is just one of many philanthropic and community-uplifting endeavors Paul is a part of as he continues to take a lead in using his platform to influence social change.

This season, the NBA and State Farm were able to provide Pedersen-McCormick Boys & Girls Club in Chicago and Brookfield Elementary School in Oakland, CA with $100,000 grants each to assist with STEAM technology refurbishments, including new computers and tablets, and a safe place with the proper resources to assist with remote learning.

As part of the unveiling of the two newly-created STEAM centers, Phoenix Suns All-Star and State Farm Community Ambassador Chris Paul surprised the schools and students with the donation during a Zoom celebration.
