Serena Williams owns Maria Sharapova like LeBron James owns the New York Knicks. Once upon a time, Sharapova was considered a rival and a possible usurper to Williams’ dominance inthe WTA. However, Serena has long since proven that she is above and beyond what Maria is. Williams extended her streak over Sharapova to 14 matches following a 6-2 7-6 (9-7) win in the semi-finals of the Brisbane International in Australia today. By maintaining her dominance over Sharapova Serena set up a showdown with second seed Victoria Azarenka in the finals. Though both Sharapova and Williams try to play down their rivalry, observers noted that neither competitor would make eye contact with the other following the match. Their bodily language belied a noticeably frosty indifference between them.
