The Miami Dolphins are enduring an awful week on-and-off the field. After falling to 1-3 last Sunday, and the firing of their head coach Joe Philbin, there were reports that their starting quarterback was losing the respect of his team.
Ryan Tannehill was accused this week of belittling players on the scout team. Today, the quarterback stepped forward to deny commenting on the paychecks of practice squad players, but did admit to being immensely frustrated with them.
“I was heated, I’m very passionate about this game,” he said. “I put a lot into it, put a lot into my preparation, how I go about my business every day. And I feel like it’s the day before the game and it’s crucial to our preparation and how we go into a game. I did get upset and said those things, but I talked to those guys and cleared the air with them and we’re moving forward.”
Tannehill clearing the air with his teammates is commendable, but these comments are not what you want to hear from your franchise QB and leader of your team. The Dolphins are desperately in need of new leadership. Interim coach Dan Campbell may just be the change that sparks a winning culture in the franchise, as his intense press conference on Monday suggests he can be the voice to lead this team.
