Michael Jordan Enters The Liquor Business With New Tequila Brand

Diddy did it and so did Jay-Z, so why not his Airness himself?

Those three titans of sports and entertainment are all now in the liquor business as MJ has joined forces with owners of the Bucks, Lakers and Celtics to develop a new tequila, Cincoro Tequila.

In a story by Forbes, author Chloe Sorvino tells us the story about how the owners met up in New York City, and while waiting on their table, they began discussing what they would love to drink, and the idea for the brand was birthed.

Cincoro is a combination of the Spanish words “five” and “gold”. It’s a brand that launched this month in 12 select markets by parent company, Cinco Spirits Group. It will go nationwide in January.

The five person team consists of Hornets owner Michael Jordan, Lakers co-owner Jeanie Buss, Milwaukee Bucks co-owner Wes Edens, Celtics co-owner Wyc Grousbeck and his then-fiancée, Emilia Fazzalari.

How big will this brand be? If the initial reaction is any indication, it will be massive.

“We sold 300 cases in Massachusetts in the first three days,” said Grousbeck. “The first reorders came through as well from Florida, where it was on sale for just a week.”

With their top of the line tequila, Clase Azul Ultra, going for $1,700, be prepared to shell out like a baller if you plan to drink like one.
