Meet Stephen And Ayesha Curry, The First Couple Of The NBA

Stephen Curry is lighting up the NBA with his record-breaking shooting, but his wife, Ayesha Curry, has an allure all her own that has nothing to do with the game of basketball. She recently made headlines ridiculously over several innocuous tweets about her clothing preferences that some people found offensive.

Steph responded with an Instagram post with a two-word message: My woman#theinstagator.

The misbegotten responses to Ayeshas tweets wont undermine her stature as a budding star, though. She has all of the charms that make her a celebrity personality independent of her husband. Her YouTube channel, Little Lights Of Mine, has more than 260,000 subscribers. She even sells her own line of olive oil (though, its currently out of stock, according to her website). Ayeshas online success has lead to reports of her possibly landing a show with The Cooking Channel.

And, if you havent seen her YouTube video Chef Curry In The Pot, where she is rapping about her cooking skills, you gotta check it out. Its hilarious.

As I think about Ayesha and Steph, Im beginning to wonder they are, in fact, the First Couple couple of the NBA.

Think about it. Steph Curry is the leagues best player on the only team in basketball with a perfect record, which currently sits at 23-0. Were actually pondering if the Golden State Warriors can topple the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls record of 72-10.

Without question, he is by far the leading NBA MVP candidate and Ayesha is developing her own voice as a media personality. Their daughter, 3-year-old Riley, warmed the hearts of fans during last years NBA Finals during post-game press conferences. When she said, Im way up, I feel blessed, she was one of the most popular faces on Vine.

During a recent Q and A with ESPN The Magazine, Steph said Riley would teach Americans how to Nae Nae as soon as she is old enough to become president. Of course, its too early to know what kind of cultural influence their new arrival, Ryan Carson Curry, will have.

But I do believe that the Curry family is already priming itself to be the most popular couple in the NBA. When we think about power couples, we often think of winners. Both Ayesha and Steph fit that category. One partner is leading the NBAs best basketball team and the other has the potential to host her own cooking show. Riley already has a modeling career, starring in a campaign selling kid moccasins.

Not to mention, they are a very beautiful family.

Of course, there will be some who will evoke the colorism argument when challenging my position that the Currys are the NBAs power couple. However, when I think about Steph and Ayesha, I dont see two people whose success is predicated on colorism politics; I just see two winners.

It is likely that the Warriors will return to the NBA finals for a repeat. And, if all goes as planned for Ayesha as some think it will, she may very well have her own show by then. No other couple in the NBA, from what I can tell, matches their husband-wife success.

Steph and Ayesha are winning and no other couple is influencing the culture quite like them.
