Maverick Will Re-Engage As Tom Cruise Confirms Top Gun Sequel

In May of 1986, Tom Cruise took to the sky as Maverick in “Top Gun”, making us all wish we could be an elite Navy pilot. 31 years later, Maverick is re-engaging.

Today we learned through Tom Cruise himself, who was speaking with the hosts of Australia’s “Sunrise”, that Top Gun 2 is a go.

Cruise’s confirmation was what the host obviously wanted to hear and now every other fan of the movie is re-experiencing the goose bumps they felt as they watched Maverick fly his jet upside down and hit the brakes while others flew fly right on by.

Im going to start filming it probably in the next year. I know, I know, its happening. Its definitely happening. Youre the first people Ive said anything to. Im here, you asked me, and Im telling you, its definitely going to happen.

For those of you too young to have experienced seeing Tony Scott’s classic movie “Top Gun”, we’ll break it down for you. Cruise plays hotshot pilot Maverick who, along with best friend and co-pilot Goose, breaks rules in the classroom and in the air until it finally costs him dearly. But through tragedy comes triumph, so Maverick gets back into the pilot’s seat to save the day, in this case the lives of Iceman (Val Kilmer) and Slider (Rick Rossovich).

Grossing almost $180 million domestically, “Top Gun” was a classic, smash hit movie of the 80s which still resonates today. From Kenny Loggins’ “Danger Zone” to “Talk to me Goose”, the movie was filled with classic scenes, lines and music. Let’s hope the sequel over three decades later doesn’t spoil the significance of the original.

Welcome back Maverick.
