Marvel’s Silver & Black Is Heading Back To The Drawing Board

We were very excited to hear about director Gina Prince-Bythewood’s involvement in the Sony Spider-Man spinoff Silver & Black, about mercenary Silver Sable and master thief Black Cat. But now comes news that the offering, which was slated for a February 6, 2019 release, hasn’t even been cast yet and is now headed back to the drawing board for rewrites. I wish I could put a sad face emoji right here, y’all.

However, it’s not all doom and gloom.  The latest draft will be handled by Captain Marvel writer Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Lindsey Beer, who wrote Godzilla vs. King Kong.

Currently, Gina Prince-Bythewood is the showrunner for the #Freeform Marvel series Cloak and Dagger, scheduled to premiere June 7.  This is one of several films set in a Spider-Man centric world coming from Sony.

Tom Hardy’s Venom will be coming out in October, and Nightwatch, a street-level black vigilante from Marvel, has been attached to Luke Cage showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker. That project COULD have Spike Lee onboard, according to Deadline.

Debuting in Amazing Spider-Man #194 in 1979, Black Cat is a staple of Spider-Mans Marvel Universe. She’s a thief but, not unlike Batman to Catwoman, she and Spidey have maintained a flirty relationship, and the two even dated periodically although she eventually turned against him and formed a crime ring.

Silver Sable first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man #265 in 1985 and is a mercenary who has faced off against Spidey but has also helped him.
