If you’re like us, then you're still scratching your head over the 56th Annual Grammy Awards.
While some are chuckling at the overall circus tint aesthetics of the evening, others are on to more traditional debates. And what debate has been more indicative of the Grammy aftershock than discussing who won in a specific category. Twitter was on fire as Macklemore & Ryan Lewis dominated the rap categories, winning four total, including Best Rap Album. While there were those who felt the group’s awards were justified, others believed Kendrick Lamar was robbed, leaving the show empty-handed. Macklemore himself even thought so and expressed his point of view in the following post-Grammy text:
— VibeMagazine (@VibeMagazine) January 27, 2014
"My text to Kendrick after the show. He deserved best rap album… I'm honored and completely blown away to win anything much less 4 Grammys. But in that category, he should have won IMO. And that's taking nothing away from The Heist. Just giving GKMC it's proper respect. With that being said, thank you to the fans. You're the reason we were on that stage tonight. And to play Same Love on that platform was a career highlight. The greatest honor of all. That's what this is about. Progress and art. Thank you. #grammys"
That was actually an excellent show of sportsmanship by Macklemore, but it also further solidifies the fact that K.Dot got robbed in the minds of his fans. We really don’t want to come off as haters, so we’ll be brief in stating, again, that Kendrick Lamar should have won.
But to give Macklemore & Ryan Lewis a chance to win us over, we're going to listen to The Heist on repeat for an hour and see if it grows on us. Giving such props has earned that.
