It was expected that the last White House Correspondents Dinner in the presidency of Barack Hussein Obama be one for the ages. Joined by First Lady Michelle Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, presidential hopefuls of both parties as well as senators, celebrities and members of the press, it was apparent that Black people jokes and dark humor were going to be the main comedic course throughout the night.
The president tried to preempt his own colored brand of humor when he took to the podium, saying upon his ascent to the microphone; “I was running on C.P.T,” Obama explained. “Which stands for jokes that white people should not make.” This was an obvious jab at Hillary Clinton and New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio, who came under heavy fire for using the joke onstage with Hillary at the Inner Circle Dinner in April.
It is the last year of my presidency and my approval ratings keep going up. The last time I was this high I was deciding on my major.
Larry Wilmore was this years choice to thrash the political, media and celebrity elite, and he did so in the blackest manner possible right off the bat, mentioning the word jigaboo when joking about the Harriet Tubman being placed on the $20 bill with former slave owner and genocidal Native American killer Andrew Jackson.
The treasury promised to put Harriet Tubmans face on the $20 bill…but now we have to wait until 2030… Women havent been this deceived by a bill since Cosby. [Boos] Oh, like I did it.
The black jokes kept flying from there, as he joked about Obamas progressing age since arriving in the Oval Office, saying, “Your hair is so white that its going to tell me All Lives Matter. Journalists werent spared in this evisceration either as CNN, MSNBC, Fox News and Don Lemon were all taken to task. Wilmore called Lemon an alleged journalist.
Heres the WMD he dropped on MSNBC;
MSNBC is here tonight. Yep, which actually now stands for Missing a Significant Number of Black Correspondents. . . MSNBC got rid of so many black people, I thought Boko Haram was running that network.
From start to finish, Wilmores monologue seemed to be a critique of the entire American worldview from the perspective of an educated Black man with a grand sense of humor and the intestinal fortitude to boldly thrash where most comedians wouldnt dare.
He said to Barack; I saw you hanging out with NBA players like Steph Curry, Golden State Warriors. That was cool. You know, it kind of makes sense too, because both of you like raining down bombs on people from long distances.
Democratic presidential hopefuls Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders werent above having their egos lacerated by Wilmores bombs either.
I am confused with Bernie Sanderss stance on guns. He seems to be anti-gun everywhere except Vermont. Bernie doesnt care who gets a gun in Vermont. There are no black people in Vermont.
Hillary [Clinton] was flustered when a Black Lives Matter protester challenged her. I havent seen a white lady that upset over being blindsided by a black person since Kelly Ripa.
And just when you thought that Wilmore was going to put a nice little professional bow on the whole affair to wrap up the night, he dropped the closing line that is reverberating around the world and will now be a part of the historical record forever; Yo, Barry, you did it! My n*gga!
