After losing to the Cavs at home in the NBA Finals, Klay Thompson didn’t have much time to unwind as he had to jump right into Team USA Basketball mode and prepare for the upcoming Olympic Games in Rio.
Joining him on the team are his Warriors’ teammates Draymond Green and Kevin Durant. A stacked team for sure, yet there’s only one ball to go around, and some thought that would mean that Klay would have to take a backseat.
How wrong those people were.
“I’m not sacrificing s–t,” said Thompson to The Vertical in response to those who implied that Klay, one of the best shooters in the game, would have to sacrifice with the addition of Durant.
I feel kind of disrespected that people keep using the term sacrifice to describe me and describe us, said Thompson to The Vertical. We all want to see each other do well. But Im not sacrificing [expletive], because my game isnt changing. Im still going to try to get buckets, hit shots, come off screens. I want to win and have a fun time every game we play.
The NBA season can get mundane; 82 games are so long and there can be some boredom. Now, we can embrace being the hated team and getting everyones best, and adding some tension every night. Itll be a fun experience going into arenas on the road, with opposing fans hating what weve built.
Fun yes, especially after Draymond’s recent Snapchat photo issues, but just remember that Klay isn’t taking a backseat for anyone.
