Joel Embiid to miss a second season?

Some fans were wondering why the Sixers drafted another big man in the form of Jahlil Okafor a few weeks ago. Well now it looks like they have their answer.

Philadelphia 76ers’ big-man Joel Embiid, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer, will more than likely miss the upcoming 2015-2016 season due to a scheduled second surgery on his right foot.

This was reportedly a shock to the former Kansas star as he felt great and loved the way he was progressing in rehab; however a recent CT scan revealed that the foot had less healing than anticipated.

The 7-foot center suffered a stress fracture in the foot during the days leading up to the 2014 draft. Yet despite the injury Embiid went No. 3 overall to the City of Brotherly Love. Having sat his entire rookie season, the 76ers hoped he would be well enough to come back and join the group of top draft picks in a rejuvenated Nerlens Noel and newly drafted Duke big-man Jahlil Okafor; but these plans derailed reportedly during a rehab session for the summer league.

This is another blow to an organization that just cant seem to get anything right. Whether its trading away significant talent in Michael Carter-Williams and KJ McDaniels or failing to fully disclose the injuries of Jrue Holliday before a trade with the Pelicans. Maybe this is the Basketball Gods way of punishing the team for years of tanking.

One thing is for certain. Embiid sitting out another season will do absolutely nothing to shed the Sixers’ reputation as one of the leagues worst teams in the last decade.
