James Earl Jones to Star in “You Can’t Take It With You”

Legendary actor James Earl Jones is slated to star in the revival of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Broadway comedy “You Can’t Take It With You.” Scott Ellis is slated to direct the two-time Tony Award-winning actor who will portray Martin Vanderhof, the grandfather of a New York family that strains the bonds of the unit by dating an executive who is rather mundane by their standards.

The play will begin production at the Longacre Theatre on August 26. Golden Globe nominee Rose Bryne and Tony Award winner Elizabeth Ashley will join Jones in the production. The play will have a 19-week run.

The last time “You Can’t Take It With You” came to Broadway was in 1983 when it was revived in a production starring Jason Robards in the role Jones will now reprise. Producers Jeffrey Richards and Jerry Frankel previously worked with Jones in “Gore Vidal’s The Best Man” in 2012.
