Greg Oden is set to meet in Las Vegas this week with the Mavericks, Kings and New Orleans Pelicans with a chance to resurrect his NBA career. The 25-year-old who went No. 1 in the 2007 NBA Draft , has battled knee injuries for his entire pro career and hasn't played in a game since December 2009.
It's hard to imagine how good or productive Oden could be after missing so much time on the basketball court, and that's without allowing for his initial development upon entering the league.
The Mavericks have been racing for a reliable big man since letting Tyson Chandler go in free agency two years ago. Dallas lost in the Dwight Howard sweepstakes, and missed out on Andrew Bynum, who signed with the Cavaliers. In an effort to leave no stones unturned, the Mavs are also looking closely at free agent Samuel Dalembert.
The Kings would like Oden playing behind DeMarcus Cousins as they shore up what they've got going in Sacramento. Of course, New Orleans is always looking to add pieces and would like to play Anthony Davis some at the four.
Basketball fans can't help but to root for Oden, if for no other reason because we'd like to see how this comeback story plays out.
