As was expected, Godzilla is number one at the box office after a weekend that saw it draw in $93 million at the box office. The numbers have been so inspiring to Warner Bros. that they’ve already announced that a sequel is in the works. Neighbors, which some say is the comedy of the year so far, came in second place with $26 million at the box office while The Amazing Spider-Man 2 limped into third place with $16.8 million. But you shouldn’t cry for third place considering The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has raked in $172 million in gate receipts since its debut earlier this month.
Every summer there’s at least one “feel good” sports film released and this year Million Dollar Arm is that movie. American audiences responded to an extent. It brought in $10.5 million to land in fourth place while the Cameron Diaz starrer The Other Woman slid down to fifth place with $6.3 million in gross revenue. Captain America: The Winter Soldier continues marching in the money with $3.7 million in revenue, which is a drop in the bucket relative to the $250.6 million in revenue that the film has brought in since its April 4th debut.
