When Drake drops, people listen. When he speaks riddles, internet sleuths solve them. That’s just the way the world works. It didn’t take long for the internet to deduce that Drake has a bone to pick with his ex-girlfriend’s husband. They didn’t have to figure anything out; he served this one to them himself.
Aubrey Graham, better known as Drake, October’s Very Own, dropped an album with Atlanta’s 21 Savage, another prominent rapper in music right now, called “Her Loss.” While the album has plenty of great songs and lyrics, the album contains a bunch of rhymes with suggestive meanings. Some of these lines were easy to catch, while others took a lot of thinking and connecting of dots to figure out who Drake was trying to diss.
Multiple stars were called out on this album. Celebrities such as Megan Thee Stallion, Ice Spice, and D.R.A.M. Drake also called out well-known celebrities that he has feuded with, like Kanye West and Pusha T.
But what surprised many was the stray Alexis Ohanian, Serena Williams’ husband, caught during the album.
On Drake’s track “Middle Of The Ocean,” he raps, “Sidebar, Serena, your husband a groupie, He claim we don’t got a problem, but No, boo, it is like you comin’ for sushi. ”
Besides the double entendre that Drake dropped mentioning “no boo” about Nobu, the upscale Asian eatery, this bar represents his true feelings for Williams’ husband, Alexis Ohanian, whom he calls a “groupie” for what seems to be Ohanian being very supportive of his recently-retired wife.
After all, Drake used to date Serena Williams, or at least that’s what it seemed. The two have been very close since 2011, when Drizzy Drake began popping up at her tennis matches. Over the years, he put her name in some of his songs, continued being a “groupie” at her games, and they were spotted kissing a few times. After a while, it was assumed that they were dating or at least had some romantic relationship.
Whatever they had going on didn’t work out, because now Serena Williams is happily married to Ohanian, and they also have a daughter. The power couple has been married for over five years. Ohanian, a tech entrepreneur and the co-founder of Reddit, has won the heart of the greatest tennis player ever to live and is her biggest fan. That might’ve been what Drake was getting at, but Ohanian handled those lyrics with class.
In response to Drake’s “groupie” lines, Ohanian responded to a fan’s reference to Drake’s line on Twitter, saying, “The reason I stay winning is because I’m relentless about being the absolute best at whatever I do—including being the best groupie for my wife & daughter.”

This wasn’t a direct response to Drake himself, but it might as well be. After all, Ohanian can brag about being married to Serena, while Drake failed at a relationship with her.
Williams, who recently retired from her legendary tennis career, has not publicly said anything about the issue. While she may not say anything about the song anytime soon, we have to take a moment to congratulate her for achieving what some women might dream of — having Drake fight over her with her husband.
Nonetheless, their marriage seems to be an exemplary one. While Drake is arguably the greatest artist of all time, he will have to hate from the sideline on this one.
The album is a masterpiece though.
