Chance The Rapper As The New Fresh Prince? DJ Jazzy Jeff Thinks So

The Hip Hop legend DJ Jazzy Jeff wants Chance the Rapper to play the main role in the New Fresh Prince if a reboot ever occurred.

In a recent HipHopDX interview, Jeff suggested that the Chicago rapper should take on the main role if the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air came back to life.

Jazzy Jeff Thinks Chance The Rapper Would Make a Great Fresh Prince

While in Krakow, Poland covering the Red Bull 3Style World Finals HipHopDX caught up with DJ Jazzy Jeff, who was one of the judges for the five night competition. With all of these old shows being rebooted recently we asked Jeff which young rapper he thought could fill the giant footprints left by Will Smith, and in his eyes there was one choice that stood head and shoulders above the rest.

The Grammy-Award winning artists mother, Mrs. Lisa Bennett, reportedly caught wind of this comment and notified her son.

And in the typical Lil Chano manner, he responded to following in Will Smiths footsteps with great bluntness and a straight-forward perspective.

During a sit-down with Pitchforks In Sight Out podcast, Chance said Im not going to play the fucking Fresh Prince, he chuckled to host Adrienne Samuels Gibbs. I love the Fresh Prince. I love Will Smith. I have so much respect for him. I would never do that. But you know what, I would write on that joint.

Weve previously seen Chance the Rappers writing abilities while he hosted a November 2017 episode of Saturday Night Live. He admitted to writing both the Family Feud: Harvey Family Thanksgiving skit and the Wayne Thanksgiving skit.

Honestly, I admire his reservation of touching this iconic role. Ive always said that whenever it came to making a reboot or remake of a classic, its either a hit or miss, nothing in-between. I mean weve seen the awful attempts already, like the reboot of The Mummy with Tom Cruise (yeah dont watch that).

For anyone, stepping into Will Smiths shoes is big and if it isnt done properly that would be a major blow to a celebrity’s brand and fans perception of them. So, although we, all long for nostalgic shows in our lives, its good that Chance is taking a pass. And maybe we should consider doing that too to keep the shows spirit alive.
