Revis Out For Season

Rex Ryan announced this morning that All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis will undergo surgery and miss the remainder of the 2012 season, after tearing his ACL in his left knee during Sunday’s game at Miami.

The circus continues for the Jets, but there’s nothing funny about this.  Revis is irreplaceable.  He is their best player and the top corner in the league.  Ryan, who preaches defense, must patch up the gapping hole at corner before Sunday when San Fran invades the Meadowlands.

Gang Green, which has been without tight end Dustin Keller, now has a major injury on both sides of the ball.  With rare early season struggles for New England, the Jets find themselves on top of the AFC East through Week 3.  The Jets will need other players to step up big, mainly Antonio Cromartie and Kyle Wilson, if they are to have any chance of holding the top spot.

A team that wins games based on its defense could not have suffered a bigger loss.  The Jets defense is currently ranked 21st in the league and expect that to drop. They will struggle against teams running a spread offense, like New England.  Look for the Jets to also play more zone and be less aggressive with blitzes.  Seeking a veteran free agent is also something they may consider.

The Jets have played Tebow at quarterback, wide receiver and on special teams.  No. 15 lining up on D next…?  Imagine that…
