Some folks have heard portions of the upcoming Kanye West album. According to reports from the Los Angeles Times, Def Jam label heads have called it "dark, but good." Pusha-T said it was "super, super dark." And apparently Daft Punk, in an interview with Rolling Stone had this to say: “It was very raw: He was rapping — kind of screaming primally, actually.”
Wait, what? Like, Ice-T on “Cop Killer” primal screaming? Insane Clown Posse screaming? Are we talking, like, Prince on “Beautiful Ones” screaming? Mos Def on “ The Beggar.” This is an ill development.
Maybe ‘Ye went to France and flipped his hig. Maybe, as he is wont to do, he’s going to deliver us more genre-bending, boundary-pushing pop music. Or he might cough up a dud. He’s been so incognito these days (other than concert rants) that you never know.
Super-super dark and primal screams, though, huh? Now his May 18 Saturday Night Live performance becomes that much more anticipated.
