Anthony Joshua’s “Confident” Fight With Deontay Wilder Will Happen

Anthony Joshua has been coming into his own as of late and owning the title of champion in the ring and in the media. This weekend, he faces WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker and is putting all of his belts on the line to prove he is the best on the planet. Whoever wins this weekend will have every belt in the division except one, Deontay “Bronze Bomber” Wilder’s WBC title and while Joshua gets prepared for this weekend the world has apparently overlooked Parker and is still solely focused on a potential matchup between him and Wilder. Joshua recently revealed that he reached out to Wilder on a media conference call.

Youve got to remember that a lot of that talk about me and Wilder started in 2017 after he beat Bermane Stiverne but I havent spoken much about it,” said Joshua. “Ive got great people in my corner that handle the business while I focus on the handling of my boxing technique. We reached out to Deontay Wilders team before the fight with Joseph Parker was made. And once that fight didnt happen, I put Wilder aside and focused solely on Parker. Im not the one overlooking Joseph Parker and Im not the one hooting and hollering about whats happening next. Im really focused on Parker because as you know if I dont get past Parker, it slows down the train and derails everything were trying to achieve in terms of becoming the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.

After Wilder avenged the only decision win in his career full of stoppages against Bermane Stiverne with an explosive KO win in the first round last November. Since he had an epic fight with Luis Ortiz that tested the fighter’s mettle and he came up victorious. Wilder has been adamant about his desire to fight Joshua and “AJ” feels confident the fight will happen.

One-hundred 10 percent. Theres no doubt in my mind that fight will happen. And theres no doubt in my mind that Ill beat Wilder as well. This is where were heading. Fight after fight, my view on it is thisWhen Wladimir Klitschko was active and his brother relinquished the WBC belt, Wilder won it. If he was so interested in becoming the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, why didnt he offer to fight Klitschko and say Listen, Ive got that belt that your brother has had for the last 10 years.

“Lets me and you fight now. Theres a lot of pressure from fans in America, media and the papers for Wilder to step up and fight. And now were here and Im that champion and Im definitely looking forward to it. Thats why back-to-back, Ive been racking up these belts one by one and taking fights. SHOWTIME has been riding with me for six fights, a quarter of my career. And were headed towards the undisputed heavyweight championship of the world.

Recently, Wilder told the world that he feels Eddie Hearn, CEO of Match Room Sports, was “just another white man milking the black man” as the promotional lead for Anthony Joshua. Wilder is advised by Al Haymon but also has promotional ties with Lou DiBella and Shelly Finkel, both white men.

Until that fight is signed, Anthony wont really get excited about that fight,” said Hearn. “Hes not really interested in talking about it or hyping it. Its the biggest fight in world boxing. Its a fight thats completely irrelevant if hes not victorious next Saturday. I dont think that its Deontay Wilder, its the other stone that needs to be turned to become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. This is Anthonys 21st fight and effectively his second unification fight. Deontay has had 40 fights. Were well ahead of schedule. All of these fights will happen and the reality is the one that put pens to paper and that are actually happening.

Boxing’s heavyweight division is back and after this weekend’s showdown between Parker and Joshua we will see who is next up for the “The Bronze Bomber”.
