Angels Hitting Coach Breaks Leg Receiving First Pitch

Los Angeles Angels hitting coach Don Baylor took the mound on Monday night to receive a routine ceremonial first pitch from 2004 American League MVP Vladimir Guerrero. However, when he toppled over in pain, Guerrero attempted to help him to his feet, when Baylor's leg twisted prompting the trainers to race out to the mound.

What should have been a sentimental moment for fans ended with Baylor, the 1979 AL MVP heading to the hospital after suffering a lower left leg injury that he'll likely be rehabilitating for the rest of the regular season.  The Angels later announced the 64-year-old broke his right femur. Eleven years ago, Baylor was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a cancer which creates soft spots in the bones, but still carried on as a major league hitting coach.

After surgery, Baylor will attempt to return, but Opening Night was not an auspicious one for the Angels.
