“Leaving is not an option,” said Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly just five days ago . “I don't even think about it.”
He continued. “I think from my perspective I've got the best job in the country, NFL, college, high school, whatever. I just look at the place that I'm at and thankful for the opportunity that I have.”
Naturally, to leave the door open to anything, Kelly then said he was intrigued by anything from the coaching Division III to the NFL. “I never take any of that off the board,” Kelly said.
Yesterday, the incredibly-inevitable news broke that Brian Kelly interviewed with the Philadelphia Eagles just one day after getting his ass kicked in the losing the BCS National Championship. So many sources knew immediately of the interview, Mike Florio suspects it's all a rouse: Kelly is going for the green. By interviewing with the Eagles, he's really trying to force Notre Dame's hand to give him a raise and an extension.
If the Irish have any stones, which I can't imagine they do after a decade of mediocrity, they'll tell him to shove it. Let the game of chicken occur between the Eagles and Kelly, because I doubt the interest is really all that strong.
I can't hate all that much on Kelly trying to get paid, but this obvious hustle is kinda weak.
