According to multiple reports, ESPN’s Tom Jackson, a 28-year veteran off the network, will likely not return to his signature seat on the “Sunday NFL Countdown” show. There is a possibility that he might be leaving the network altogether.
The move marks an entire restructuring of one of ESPN’s marquee programs. This will be the last season that Chris Berman will work the anchor desk, and the show has already parted ways with analysts Mike Ditka, Cris Carter and Keyshawn Johnson.
They will be replaced by Randy Moss, Charles Woodson and Matt Hasselbeck. Trent Dilfer, who was already with ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown show, has also been added to the Sunday NFL Countdown.
While some think that Jackson, who has been an integral part of ESPN’s NFL analysis and a member of seven Emmy Award winning programs, will be given a smaller role on another platform, others think he’s leaving ESPN for good.
NBC Sports’ Pro Football Talk is reporting that Jackson and ESPN are done.
Seems like a rather unceremonious way for the network to part ways with such a long-tenured and respected industry veteran.
