It’s been three months since Tyreek Hill became a Miami Dolphins player, and without one game under his belt as a receiver for the aqua and orange he’s already stirred up controversy with his former team.
Lately he’s been feeling the pressure and repercussions of his words, and in response to his remarks he’s been receiving death threats from fans, Hill said this week.
Ever since Hill went on his new podcast “It Needed to Be Said” and proclaimed that his new Miami QB Tua Tagovailoa is a more accurate passer than his former QB in Kansas City, “Cheetah” has received a lot of negative reactions.
His controversial statement came with much intrigue, scrutiny, and backlash from the fans. But recently the backlash has been a bit too much, and the fans have taken their issue with Hill too far.
In his second episode of his podcast, Hill revealed that he’d been receiving death threats in regard to his opinions about Tua, and Mahomes.
“Every social media account I owned, I got death threats on,” Hill said on the second episode of his podcast this week, AL.com reported. “Which is ridiculous.”
It’s doubtful that Tyreek Hill is going to be a team captain in his first year in Miami, but he is captain obvious when stating that fans are overreacting to his comments.
Then again, when you have a podcast and you’re running you’re mouth constantly as a player you tend to invite all of the weirdos and place yourself on the fanatical radar.
“I just feel like a lot of people overreacted for no reason,” Hill said. “They really didn’t see what I said. A lot of people are just acting off emotion.”
Now even though Tyreek is correct, what he previously said about Mahomes was outlandish.
Just the mere idea of putting Tua in the same sentence as a League MVP, Super Bowl champion, and Super Bowl MVP is blasphemous. Mahomes, who had a 50-TD and 5,000-yard season, is one of the best QBs ever.
Meanwhile, Tua is struggling to gain consistency and confidence from his front office. The comment caught people off guard, but it was a typical Hill clout chase.
“Obviously, like I’m going to go with [Mahomes] as the strongest arm. But as far as accuracy-wise, I’m going with Tua all day,” Hill said earlier this month on the first episode of his podcast. “I love the deep ball, but guess what though? I done expanded my game, so now I’m doing a lot more than just the deep ball now. I’m doing intermediate routes, I’m doing short routes, so now I actually need a guy who can just get me the ball now on a dagger route, on a corner route, on a shallow cross route — you know, right now, right in my chest, so now I can do the rest.”
Mahomes is clearly the better quarterback by a long shot, so naturally a lot of fans didn’t like this comparison, but what they’re failing to realize is, with camp underway, Hill has now been able to catch passes from both QBs, so he’s in a unique position to be able to judge and place his opinion on who the more accurate passer is. So maybe Hill knows something we don’t. Either way, let’s hope Hill can stay safe and the NFL fans get over his opinion.
