Where The Top 5 QBs In 2021 NFL Draft Will Land

The highly-touted college quarterback, now more than ever, is considered the magic potion for losing NFL franchises looking for a savior. With the NFL becoming a pass-all-the-time league, securing a franchise QB is mandatory for any serious championship contender.

Every season, there’s a quarterback who is described as a “generational talent.” Last year it was Tua and Burrow. This season it’s Trevor Lawrence, the No. 1 projected pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Here’s a list of the Top 5 quarterbacks entering the NFL Draft as we cap our CFB season this evening with an Alabama vs. Ohio State game for the ages.

They all have a chance to be first-round picks with their strong finishes to the COVID-plagued college season.

  1. Trevor Lawrence (Jacksonville Jaguars)

The “Tank For Trevor” mantra had been echoed all around the league but especially in NY and Florida. The Jets and Jaguars are both downright awful and in need of a franchise savior. Enter Lawrence AKA “Sunshine”  and his multifaceted skill set. Blessed with elite arm strength, accuracy and athleticism, it’s his 6-foot-6 frame that has scouts salivating and reportedly separates him from the pack.

2. Justin Fields (NY Jets) 

Lawrence finished third in the Heisman voting but remains the first pick in the NFL Draft. After Lawrence is nabbed,  the attention will then turn to Fields. Like Lawrence, he was one of the nation’s top recruits and showed us very quickly with his play (once he transferred from Georgia to Ohio State) why he was so highly touted.

He’s a true dual-threat, which is becoming more and more valuable in the NFL each passing year.  He’s got good size, strength and sneaky speed for a QB.

4 . Zach Wilson (BYU)

Wilson has so much potential and his abilities have a little (Patrick Mahomes -esque) look to it at times. While he may be less heralded than the rest of the elite QBs, he’s a guy whose name you’ll hear called early in April. 

Wilson’s Bowl game performance back in December made his stock skyrocket. He ended up with 425 passing yards, three passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns in BYU’s 49-23 destruction of the UCF Knights. His five total touchdowns was a BYU record for a quarterback in a bowl game.

As we move closer to the Draft he could end up as the third quarterback chosen by Atlanta, who needs a replacement for aging but effective Matt Bryan (35 years old). 

He continues to surge up draft boards and the intrigue with him will only continue to grow. He has the “IT” factor. Possesses solid size and the ability to throw from different angles.

3. Trey Lance (Carolina Panthers) 

He’s a mystery of sorts but this kid is big, strong and tough in the mold of another former NDSU Bison quarterback named Carson Wentz. Wentz went No. 2 overall in the 2016 NFL Draft.

If Detroit decides to grab one of Alabama’s receives and provide Matt Staford with more weapons to finally get over the hump rather than grab a quarterback, Carolina would be a solid organization for Lance to grow with. Teddy Bridgewater would be a superb mentor for the young QB as well.

I don’t care what level you’re playing at when you lead a team to an undefeated season and national title while passing for over 2800 yards and 28 touchdowns with no interceptions, NFL scouts are going to be watching you. Being 6’4 and 226 pounds helps too. Lance is another dual-threat as well, as he rushed for another 1100 yards and 14 touchdowns on the ground. 

5. Mac Jones (WFT) 

Following Tua Tagovailoa wasn’t supposed to this easy but Jones has been dynamite leading Alabama to an undefeated record, securing a third-place Heisman finish and CFB National Title Game appearance. Jones could be available at No. 19 for the Washington Football Team. He could be drafted before Trask and in the first round.

Honorable Mention

Kyle Trask (Florida) 

Trask won’t “WOW” anyone with his athleticism or escapability but he’s a cerebral signal-caller who passes with anticipation and touch at a high level. He can also spin it when needed as well. Accuracy is a strength of his and he has a pretty high football IQ. Uncanny arm strength enables him to make throws all over the field like “Routes On Air.” Trask was developed by Dan Mullen who also developed Dak Prescott and scouts say Trask is considered a better pure passer than Dak.

He might slip to the second round.
